ioi (chartzzzzzz dude) has made sales-age very sensitive and reactionary to made-up sales numbers, and for good reason.

Just for curiosity.

You have listed all 3DS games that have sold over 100k units since the release of the 3DS (from 26/02/11 to 26/01/12 - 49 weeks).

Here there is a practically equivalent list (from 29/11/04 to 21/11/05 - 52 weeks) with all NDS games that end up selling over that mark too.

29/11/04 [NDS] Feel the Magic: XY/XX (Sega) 27.062 / 100.263 26,99%

Some notes:

The LTD sales are updated to March 2010 (thanks Chris 1964 for sharing your database with us), so it is likely that some 3DS games will end up selling over 100k units when all is said and done. Examples: Pilotwings Resort, Starfox 64 3D or Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure.

New Love + and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy that were released a day ago are likely to sell over 100k units, so since I counted the 52 first weeks for the NDS titles these two games will have to be take into account too.

Some additions:

The blog author is surprised with how well Theatrythm is selling. He sees the charm of FF music but thought the price was too high for it to be that successful.

Edit: He also comments that Theatrythm might give Binary Domain a decent fight.

Love Plus sells very differently at local stores and at online stores so it's hard to predict numbers, he says. There are many reports of long load times and bugs so that may disappoint players. Despite these new hurdles (I guess he means the bugs) he sees potential for this franchise to grow further, kind of like MonHun did over time.

I'll likely get shot for this but, sod it,

The DS list is mainly a list of new endevours and experiences, where as the 3DS isn't. Not that that's mattered for the 3DS becuase the games are of a high standard regardless. Plus of coure the DS was breaking new ground where as the 3DS is a refinement and a tuning of that experience.

Anyways, the semi controversial point i want to get out is that ports/iterative versions on the 3DS -are not- seen as the same milstone that they are on the Vita. But on the weight of sales evidence that's because they AREN'T!

For whatever reason it does seem they are by and large a plus for Nintendo but a negative for Sony.

I'd add that the DS is still the greatest handheld of all time though. Library is insane.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Wonder if Super Pokémon Scramble will manage to sell at least as Pokémon Dash.

Well, consider the number isn't even updated to last weeks, and that Pokémon is still in top 50. It could have a good possibility, and that would be much more a consequence of the difference between the first year output from DS and 3DS.

DS had three Pokémon games ( including Mystery Dungeon multi with GBA ) released in basically the first year, while 3DS had just one so far.

Completely agreed. I've had Gameboy/GBC/GBA, Game Gear etc., but I've never bought more than a game or two for each, where as the DS I have a library of 20+ games. DS is just one of the greatest systems ever.

I'm just curious what is the buy:rate ration of these things in Japan? I don't know about the West either, but it always seemed to be people that rate what they buy are a slim minority. Plus, Sony really needs all the good news they can get now.

If this is potentially inflammatory discussion I will stop.
There is no system/pattern or estimates that can be found through the ratings on PS Store. The best selling game on PSN in 2011 was Tetris and it also had the least amount of ratings in the Top 10 for 2011. So at others have already mentioned, it is pretty much just wild guess how much it has sold. All we know for sure is the minumum it has sold (about 1800 for Gravity Daze in this case).

The DS list is mainly a list of new endevours and experiences, where as the 3DS isn't.

Examples?

Phoenix Wright is widely regarded as being something amazingly unique and awesome on the DS, but in Japan the series had its run on GBA, and it's since been ported to several other platforms. Nothing unique here.

Layton is fairly unique, but 3DS is getting its Laytons as well. Touch screen/dual screen isn't strictly necessary for the game, as proven by games like Puzzle Agent on PC.

In fact when I think of the DS library, I scarcely think of anything wildly new and unprecedentedly creative.

I think of FF3 and FF4, Chrystal Chronicles, DQ 4/5/6/9/Monsters, Chrono Trigger, Radiant Historia, Etrian Odyssey (also coming to 3DS), Rhythm Heaven (began on GBA, continuing on Wii, touch not necessary), Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Zelda Spirit Tracks (both hated BECAUSE they use touch control), New Super Mario Bros., Bowser's Inside Story (3DS is soon getting its own Mario RPG), Mario Kart DS, Contra 4, GTA Chinatown Wars, Metroid Prime Pinball, uh...the list goes on and on.

When you make a statement like that, you basically have one or two games in mind from the DS's earliest years. Kirby's Canvas Curse, Elite Beat Agents, and maybe Yoshi Touch & Go and Nintendogs. On the whole though, the platform is made up of pretty regular (but fantastic!) gaming experiences, and so is the 3DS.

Brain Training is one of the biggest when it comes to new experience. Maybe something similar have been done before, but i'm sure that it was a new experience for a lot of people, me included. Same with Nintendogs as well, many have probably never even heard of Catz and Dogz for PC, so i guess that Nintendogs was a new experience for a lot of people.

well, i was referring to the list is above :D
The number of new experiences vs 3DS is quite strong in DSs favour though as i mentioned, that's to be expected.

Well, i don't dispute that on the whole the DS library consists of games that aren't reliant on the DS's unique features. What i was more pointing out was the number of unique games in this time frame vs the 3DS. Also how ultimately the change in mix up of titles hasn't particularly dented the 3DS

IIRC Iwata said that we can expect this new experiences in 3DS too. They didn't want to simply make a sequel to the Touch Generation games so that's the reason why we don't have Brain Training 3 and other trainings for now.

Let's see if Nintendo can make another multi-million seller series like the Touch generations for the 3DS.

Either Sony release the official figures or we just assume the figure is zero because it's not worth speculating over.

Well, strictly speaking, doesn't it at least set a (non-zero) minimum bound for DD sales?

That said... it's not worth speculating over. Quite right.

3DS will hit 5 million 51 weeks after release, it needed one more week for a full year. If it at happened at 52 weeks Famitsu would give an early report with hardware and at least top 5 software, now things are a little messed.

Chris, one question I wanted to ask you last week when I saw the re-entry of SS:

How does M-C count game+accessory bundles? Are there two entries (one for the ¥6.800 edition and another for the ¥8.800) or this entry is the addition of the last two?

I suppose this "mini-bump" is caused by the ¥8.800 new White bundle, right? But seeing the ¥6.800 tag is confusing me.

Thanks in advance!

Final Fantasy XIII-2 really ended up showing some impressive legs considering the mega bomb it was claimed to be. It obviously still didn't sell to expectations but throw in a "Best" release and the total SKU's would likely hit 1 million, right?

Nope. Legs were thanks to price collapse already, budget reprint won't do anything really.

Luckily there's only one real bug for those who don't transfer save data (although there are reports of freezes and the like, which turning off WiFi seemingly reduces) and that one involves starting the game up between midnight and 5AM, or leaving the system in sleep mode (while in-game) as the clock passes the 5AM mark (that's when the real-time clock schedule resets, which doesn't seem to occur if you have the game running and in sleep mode). I'll probably find out if I experience it myself, but no freezes yet, and the loading is bareable.

It's unknown how much ratings can be used to determine sales, but we can compare for 3DS, as sales data for 2011 was released. Not sure how accurate it is though. Format is game, number of copies sold, and rough revenue.

Zelda DX　 338,700 - $2,300,000

Donkey Kong 82,800 - $348,000
Zebius 47,900 - $301,000
Byuustone 50,300 - $293,000

I would check the current ratings, but I'm in the middle of LovePlus, so I'll leave that to someone else.

The funny thing about XIII-2 is that if you look at its performance as a mainline FF title its sales are pretty bad, but as a PS3 title generally its actually well up there.

I don't really think you can separate the two given FFXIII did ~1.9m already. As a FF game it's a gigantic bomb and as a FF on PS3 it's... still a gigantic bomb.

Continuing the (sorta pointless but interesting) discussion about Gravity Daze's PSN sales: It has now surpassed Minna no Golf 6 to be the Vita game with the highest number of user ratings on JP PSN. This does not mean it is the highest selling Vita game on PSN, and could just mean that the people who did buy it are the most passionate about making their small opinion heard, but either way we know that Gravity Daze has at least sold almost 1900 units on PSN.
