Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2013 (Feb 18 - Feb 24)

It depends. For example, Minna no Golf and Dynasty Warriors I'm referring to were launch titles, exactly as for Vita. Tales of Eternia, the first Tales of on PSP, was released a few months after the launch. Etc.
How much did hotshot golf and dynasty warrior sell on psp? How much did psp sell at launch? Is tales of eternia a new game or a remake of a old one?
funny you used Miku as example.

http://andriasang.com/con2lc/miku_sequel/

It's either they didn't make money or below expectation which made Sega to release the game on PS3.

Also, there is no evidence for your claim that shows every game released on VITA made money. Please don't say it like a fact.
When did "I'm pretty sure" sound like I was speaking facts(especially since we have no idea on what the budget of vita games are). The music licensing is what killed the budget of that game and the game was never intended to be a vita exclusive so the budget was probably bigger than any miku game they have ever made.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I know that feeling, aniki. I know that feeling.

Hmm? I thought it was obvious that Miku became a multiplatform game after Vita went the bomba way.

It was initially a Vita exclusive if we look back at rumors and even job listings. It would also explain why the PS3 version is still not out, it was simply not in development.

100k doesn't seem too bad for Layton 6 day one. Though I dunno if it'll ever need a second shipment.

Wii had a Dragon quest quest game. I'm pretty sure Wii has sold more than vita as well(lol). I wonder what it will be like this year.
Wii had a Dragon Quest MMORPG. Vita had Tales, Metal Gear, Persona, Miku and about 10x the 3rd party releases Wii did.

Wii has one 3rd party game for 2013, so I'd expect Vita to finally win out this year. :)

PS3 always got the Miku games months later. Vita bomba is probably what made Sega plan for a retail release and make a direct port.

Still, this is what I was responding

Hard to make money or sell below expectations when the release has not happened.

Yep, Layton won't sell much over its initial shipment. They kinda squandered the "long" wait potential of this entry by releasing Layton Vs AA just a few months before it.

They should put the series to rest for a while.

At least this Layton starts better than Layton VS AA.

The arcade game is pretty popular here in Japan, a lot of kids seems to enjoy it. The 3DS game is going to be succesful.

Unless I'm remembering wrong the PS3 version of Project Diva f was announced a long time before the Vita release. It may have been planned as a Vita exclusive from the beginning but I think even Sega could see the writing on the wall with regards to the Vita's sales potential versus the budget for their game.

There was also a Taiko game for the Wii in 2012. Going by Garaph, there were 5 3rd party Wii games in 2012 and 29 3rd party Vita games in 2012.

EDIT: I see now that the Taiko game is already mentioned =)

I know that the arcade version is very popular. Scamco's sold a few million Dragon Ball Heroes cards just in Japan. It's just that the 3DS port looks terrible, lol.

It's going to benefit from being the only recent Dragon Ball game on store shelves when Battle of Gods comes out too. Makes me wonder why Scamco didn't just launch the Budokai HD Collection in Japan around now.

I just hope we see more DBZ on 3DS. Get Dimps on a Shin Budokai 3/successor.

I'd rather Dimps not be wasted on a game that looks worse than the ones they made in 2004.

Give me a Burst Limit 2 on PS3 please.

I don't believe any of the previous Project Diva games went multiplatform. Aren't you just thinking of that PSN Theater app?

01. (__) [PS3] Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Konami) - 311,549 / 311,549 [ST*: ~60% => 519,000]

Just saw this.

What the... Konami? 519k copies shipped day one? Crazy

Well, at least PS3 will have another 500k+ seller and the game will be the second best selling game of its kind after DMC (554k) even if it will be thanks to bomba bins, probably.

Or not, maybe the second week will be 100k+ but it's doubtful with that many new releases this week.

I don't believe any of the previous Project Diva games went multiplatform. Aren't you just thinking of that PSN Theater app?

Yes, I didn't meant to say that those were multiplatform releases. Just that there's a shared history between the previous games and PS3.

But you are selling short the PS3 content calling it PSN Theater app. It's basically a port of the PSP games with better graphics, but you need to buy the PSP games too to be able to play it.

Considering most PS3 games are very frontloaded, I think Konami overshipped the title. Not a massive overshipment but still.

I'm pretty sure there was some pressure from the company owning the IP to bring the game also on PS3, since the Vita didn't seem a very viable platform at the time.

Things don't look bad for the last Professor Layton title. With the exception of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, every entry managed to double its first day sales during the rest of the week. If that scenario happened, it would open about 180.000 units sold.

I personally think this is a very optimistic figure since I would say it will be closer to 150.000 units than to 200.000.

First day sales estimate (sell-through) - First week sales

[NDS] Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Level 5) {2007.02.15} - 50.000 (?) - 119.816
[NDS] Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (Level 5) {2007.11.29} - 200.000 (29%) - 307.771

They have to revitalize the series,

This is the last Layton game, supposedly.

They should put the series to rest for a while.

They are, supposedly.

Though I dunno if it'll ever need a second shipment.

Layton games still have legs. The highest first week % of any of the previous five series games is 45%, and the first 3DS game was 30% first week.

Layton 1 - 12%
Layton 2 - 33%
Layton 3 - 42%
Layton 4 - 45%
Layton 5 (switch to 3DS, and launch game) - 30%

Technically, it's only the last entry to sport Layton as the protagonist. They'll probably continue it with a new/supporting character.

Lab Official Luke and the Burned Out Mini-Beaker
or LOL: BOMB (for short)

I swear every time an L-5 game gets released people see the low first day sell through and scream bomba. Almost every L5 game has low first day sellthrough.

When did "I'm pretty sure" sound like I was speaking facts(especially since we have no idea on what the budget of vita games are).

when you say thing like below and follow up saying I'm pretty sure they at least made a nice profit, which is what really matters at the end off the day.

I doubt there is any dev that has made a game for vita and didn't make a profit.

"I'm pretty sure" Miku on VITA did not make money and needs the PS3 port to recoup the development cost. And "I doubt" the non-niche game publishers are happy with the sales number for their games on VITA. Otherwise, we would have heard more big games announced on it.

so we can't judge the game's sales performance on VITA? Do we need to judge every multiplatform PSV/PS3 game performance based on their combined numbers?

I have never said that.

Clearly, I don't think Project Diva f was a success compared to previous releases but we also have to consider that this time there was another version announced for a more popular console.
Not that I think this was the sole cause for the drop, Vita's abysmal sales were also responsable.

You can take a comment made on twitter the same week the game was released as the truth or you can take later comments made on the financial report when the game had shipped 230k units a month later.

In the consumer business, sales were strong in the packaged game software field for titles such as “HATSUNE
MIKU -Project DIVA- f ” targeting the domestic market,

http://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/ir/library/pdf/settlement/2013/operating_2q_e.pdf

Both can be the truth

Have there been any big game releases on the Vita to begin with though, besides Miku F? Persona 4 Golden i guess, but that was an enhanced port.

I think the point is that the PS3 version would have been released even if the Vita version had set sales record for the franchise. It is however possible that a PS3 version was decided because of the poor Vita hardware sales.

If that is the Week of Dec 25th, 2006, DQ Joker + Famitsu Top 500 adjustment could explain the bump.
Yep.
Before: Known DS third party software through the week starting 2006-12-18
After: Known DS third party software sales through the week starting 2006-12-25.
Does anyone know roughly when the information in Garaph was last updated?
Hardware updates itself from the web pages, so as long as they're not posting at weird times of the week it should be up to date pretty quick. Software is a bit more manual and often falls some weeks behind. Going to the weekly overview page will default to the most recent software week: currently the week of February 4-10.

All that matters is that there is a small level of desire present. It ain't gonna shift 100k units, it ain't gonna outsell the 3DS next week, it ain't going to stay above 15k for more than 3 or 4 weeks. Regardless, after 6 months or more of 'it's dead' the image above is a pleasant 'fuck you, I'm still breathing'.

I just find it amusing that some need to be 'realistic', lest the celebrations become too heady.

Buy a bottle of champagne just in case! :p

Well yeah I figured as much considering the increase, but just thought that it was a fun fact. I think 3DS did around 5500 the week before the price-drop, Vita has never actually went down that low so it's interesting from that perspective.

PSV - 4,021 (random week)
3DS - 4,132 (week before price cut)

Lol, had to laugh at that.

And what is this feeling?? Is there... is there hope for Vita??? I can't wait to next monday (or wednesday, alternatively)!

March as a whole will be very interesting, new Vita games every week, and April too but for a different reason, that's when Vita will have to hold itself with no new releaes.

First couple weeks of the month are barren, but there are Vita releases in April:

04/18
Slotter Mania V: Zettai Shouji II

04/25
Kajiri Kamui Kagura: Akebono no Hikari
Meikyuu Cross Blood: Infinity
NextRev: Dainishu Denki Koujishi Shiken
NextRev: Daisanshu Denki Shunin Gijutsusha
NextRev: Eiken
PhotoKano Kiss

None of those should sell well except Meikyuu Cross Blood (which could do Demon Gaze numbers as it's a popular DRPG from the same developer) and maybe PhotoKano Kiss.
