Meet the Motorola Droid

I'm really bothered by the fact that the 2.1 stock Droid battery indicator shows only a quarter of the battery depleted (in the graphic representation by the clock), yet in settings the battery is down to 50%. Likewise, the battery will go down to 30% and still continue to show half battery capacity in the icon by the clock.

Is there a fix for that or a setting that can be changed that I don't know about?

Really? The only thing I've noticed is when the indicator appears to be at 50% on my Droid, its actually lower than 50% because the top tip counts and throws it off at a glance. But I find its accurate.

You could always get battery indicator which will put the percent up there. There's a specific version for the droid.

Just keep in mind, the Droid 2 and Shadow are likely to be launching within the next month or so.
Is there any date set for its release? I've been reading around for it and can't find anything. I really need a new phone but if the Droid 2 is coming out soon I might as well wait.

Also I'm in the UK here so would we get the Droid 2 around the same time as the US?

I don't really keep up with phones so not sure how anything regarding their releases work.

so got rom manager premium. installed bugless beast 800mhz and it keeps restarting from the eye to the droid logo. reflashing my old DM smoked glass. will look to see what i have to do.

My headphone jack suddenly, inexplicably stopped working. It won't even detect that something is plugged in or out, let alone pass sound through. Not good as I use it all the time in my car with an AUX port on my stereo. New phone is likely my only option?

I had had literally zero problems with the Droid hardware from day one until this.

I hope to god you have insurance. Expect no help otherwise.

Asurion... no insurance, what are you kidding? :lol
You can still use the phone, so they likely won't do anything to help you without it. When I went in there and my charging port was fucked (making the phone technically unusable) they said the only reason they could do anything about it was because I had insurance.

That's pretty shitty of them, phones still have a 1 year warranty.

i guess it's luck of the draw, I went in to get it replaced because of dust under the screen (unusable in sunlight) and they replaced it at no cost.

Either way I'm glad I have it, it's an expensive piece of hardware.

Getting a whole new phone is such a pain in the ass though :lol I have literally no other issues with it.

What do I have to do before bringing it in, return to stock and unroot?

I'm on my third droid for reasons that are mostly my fault. I always set it back to stock, but you probably don't need to. As long as you can make it appear unrooted I think you're ok.

Edit: You'll get to keep your SD card, and your gmail account will sync all your contacts and stuff, so all you have to do with the new phone is customize it however you had it. I actually had mine back to 'customized' within 30 minutes of getting it.

One of the main reasons I love the Android platform and the cloud. I had to replace mine about a month ago and had the same experience: popped in my SD card, synced, and re-downloaded all my apps (if that info was in the cloud too it would have taken 5 minutes!).

Awesome.

If I really can keep my SD Card, Titanium Backup and SMS Backup/Restore will make it less than 30 minutes. That wouldn't be so bad :D

When I did a factory reset of my Droid, between the built in sync and MyBackup Pro, everything was back in 5 minutes. The only bump was Facebook and contact sync, I had to fool around with it to make it resync the contacts and pics. Not sure what happened there or how I fixed it, but it wasn't working like it should have.

But yeah, aside from Facebook...I had everything back in 5 minutes or less.

Been running 2.2 for a couple hours now. Besides it syncing all my apps automatically at first boot, it's really nice. I guess some people would like the app syncing, but I use Titanium Backup so I'd rather be without it. I also pulled up a couple Flash videos on Engadget, and they were very stuttery. I'm going to try again now that I'm back up to 800Mhz.

Edit: It's a little better, but still stuttery. The audio is crackling too. It might be because the video isn't optimized for mobile.

What kernel did you flash?

Looks like it needs some work. I'm curious to try it but I'm not so sure at the moment since it is obviously not the final release after all.

I may wait for a Bugless Beast edition. :)

The stock kernel. Moto upped the max to 800 I believe, so you can just run SetCPU and bump it up to there. From what I hear they will have a 1.1GHz kernel soon though.

Edit: birdman says optimized rom with wifi is on it's way, so I figure we'll have it in a little bit.

Reverted back to my Nandroid backup I made before trying Froyo. I'm quite alright with this setup here:

Why did this rom run so slow? I wiped and everything prior. I'll wait for a more stable release I think.
It starts out very slow because it redownloads all of your apps automatically. It took me 10 min or so probably before it finished getting all of mine, and after that it was smooth. If yours is finished fetching your apps and it's still slow then I dunno.

Yeah, whenever I do a ROM change out and 'reinstall' I let the phone sit for a good 30 min or so after signing in before I even bother to use it while it updates and installs etc.

How are you all overclocking your droids? Is it safe? Does it effect battery life a lot?

Thanks
As long as you don't overclock extremely high all the time, there's not much of a negative impact on battery life, if there's any at all. I only overclock mine to 800, and with SetCPU's profiles set right my phone lasts longer than it does at stock frequencies.

It was slow before I even signed in with my Google account and still slow after I let it install the apps. VERY slow.

I use SetCPU profiles, so that wheh my phone sleeps it's only closed at 250mhz. It has dramatically improved my battery life. :D

Bleh I am really not looking forward to returning this phone :lol

Welp, I took the Nestea plunge...

FROYO installed and kicking ass. LauncherPro works deliciously, wifi is online, and things like the Marketplace and GTalk tweaks look sweet.

:)

I couldn't get Maps to work or update, so I'm back to 2.1 for the time being.
Maps works fine, the update in the marketplace is the same as the version already included in the Froyo.

Just ignore the market indicator.

As for launchers, sorry but the latest LauncherPro is the one to beat now.

Ah thanks, it had me worried. I see we have the new dock app in this one. I don't mind it though, the weather isn't bugged as it was with the 2.1 version. Nice.
