Meet the Swedish boy who's turning Japanese, we really think so

Despite his European heritage, he's developed a cult following in Japan and is lauded by teenage girls because of his "feminine beauty".

Firstly, why is it despite his European heritage? Do Japanese teenage girls not find guys from Europe cool?

And second, why would girls find him hot? And surely he wouldn't care because, but then the voice would put off, but then it's a girl but then what

Whatever is happening, I am ok with it.

Kid's got some good playing, and I kind of dig the sound of japanese rock mixed with obvious swedish melodic influences. I'll watch for whatever he does. It could be fun.

Alexi Laiho was already hot without the costume.

Ahahaha, I totally thought this too.

They find him hot for the same reason they find Gackt hot.

He actually has a nice voice, the image just doesn't match, which I suppose was the whole point. Half of the act is just selling the oddity of it. Well, good for him in finding success. I wonder if he'll find further audiences outside of Asia.

This came up in the last cross dresser thread. Apparently transgendered officially encompasses cross dressers.

(but yes, he's not a she)

Ugh, all the terms are way too confusing. Can't everyone get together and work this out?

Alyssonwheel put it well in the transgaf thread:

Feel free to disagree but I thought it was pretty succinct.

But more on topic, it seems like a stage type thing for this guy, so I would call him a cross-dresser.
A lot of cross dressers don't like the term, since transvestite started as a term that they did it for sexual gratification and basically had a fetish for it.

I doubt this kid is doing it for sexual reasons lol.
The more you know. Thanks for the clarification, broskis.

Well, I think the problem is in a situation where you don't know the person at all. It comes to the question of what you should default to when you see someone and only know it's guy in girl's clothing (or vise versa). If you use the term "he" you could offend people if he happens to be transexual (and thus should be referred to as a she). If you use the word "she" you might just be making the wrong assumption that just because someone dresses "like a girl" that they also identify as one, which can be wrong (as in cases like this). And as far as I know you most definitely can't just say he/she, because I'm pretty sure that's really offensive to transgendered/transexual people if the person happens to be one.

It's really just an odd situation overall where human sexuality, gender preferences, and just personalities as a whole are far more nuanced and malleable than our language allows us to be.

It's a shame that these subjects are shied away from so basically no one knows what to say. Even people who are transgendered, transvestites, transexuals, or whatever are confused so how are other people supposed to understand?

I can't really offer any advice other than being clear that you're not trying to offend and simply didn't know what to say. You can't hate someone for trying.

"Shred"

Lol. Who the fuck listens to this shit? What kind of shit eater actually believes this is worth listening to?

Because people with different taste in music than you are "shit eaters," and things other than your specific preference aren't worth listening to at all.

He really doesn't shred in this much anyway, so if you have a general problem with shredding your ire would be best elsewhere.

Now I'm confused again. If someone is biologically male and he identifies as male, then wouldn't it be contradictory to call them transgender?

and the people who have this esoteric knowledge are just itchin' to condemn someone who doesn't know better and uses the word "tranny," which helps nobody.

No, because cross-dressing is considered something that transgresses cultural gender norms, thus transgender is an applicable label.

Now if you were to call someone who was assigned male at birth and identifies as male a transsexual, then yes, you would be using the term incorrectly.

The link at the top says he is, but the term "tranny" is offensive to the community I believe.

In my experience it depends. I know a lot of transgendered people and none of them find it offensive, but if it's a forum rule not to use it then that's that. Anecdote =/= data after all.

I don't know any of the proper terms.

I am not even sure if this is their lifestyle or they're going along with the style of Visual Kei for performance. I'm not sure.

But I know I like it.

Back in the 90's, sometimes bands were forced into VK in order to gain popularity. GLAY and L'Arc dropped the VK act pretty quickly after they got big.

Dir En Grey dropped the VK act too.

none the less they're cute with makeup on. <3 Vis Kei.

Its better than kpop.

Hell yeah, subvert those gender roles.

EDIT: Goddamn song is awful though. I hate voices that sound trained like that.

EDIT: Anyone know if he's gay or straight? Just, uh, curious.

Transgender is a general term (lazy imho) that covers both people who feel that they're born in the body with the wrong sex (transsexual) and people who wear the clothes of the opposite sex (cross-dresser, or transvestite - tho the latter is apparently not appropriate)
Transsexual

Now the problem with a term for someone who dresses in "the clothes of the opposite sex" is that it's pretty stupid when you think about it. For this definition to work you must assume that males and females have a "standard" type of clothing that transvestites can adhere to.

Then there might be different reasons to dress the way a cross-dresser dress, I personally highly doubt that the boy in the OP dresses the way he dress for the same reason that the typical cross-dresser dress the way they dress.
