Mega Man Battle Network is/was the most popular Mega man series. Should Capcom bring it back?

Do you think Capcom should bring the Mega Man Battle Netowkr series back?

  • I watched the Anime but never played the games

Mega Man BN WW (using low ball figures for outside japan so it may have done better) has sold 5.2 Million WW with 3.83 of that being in Japan. Along with the second best selling Mega Man game of all time, for better or worse, Battle Network 4.

In comparison, original Mega Man across all mainline games, Plus the psp remake and & Bass, are less than 4 million. The X series being ~around 2 million, The Zero series being less than 1 million, The Legend series being less than 800k, and the Star Force series being less than 1.5 million.

Mega Man Battle Network has plenty of potential as a new competitive console game or a great battle card based handheld/mobile game. Why Capcom has never brought this series back in ANY form is a mystery. No DVD/BR for the TV show (except 1 season for over a decade ago from what I recall), no remaster or ports of the original games, not collections (even Zero got an enhanced collection), no new version of Network transmission, nothing.

Do you think Capcom should bring the Battle Network series back?

Never played or even watch the anime, so I can't really say, however! To be honest if any Megaman spin off deserves to be revived it's Legends.

...noooooo. Battle Network was designed to appeal to the casual "Pokemon" fans. It's time has passed, don't need to go back.

I can see them bringing it back as like a phone game, loot box chips and whatnot with battle network gameplay, could be pretty fun.

Not voting because there's no option between hard approval and hard dismissal. It's a bit more complex than that.

Battle Network was cool while it lasted, but they made six main games not counting the multiple versions, GC spinoff, a couple of japan-only things and Star Force games.

The gameplay systems have already been iterated to death with stuff like style changes, soul unison, dark chips, beast forms, etc. so they'd need to refresh that somehow while using a similar aesthetic. Perhaps something along the lines of Kingdom Hearts: ReChain of Memories but replacing the card system with loadout changes on a timer as per BN.

Plus, there are other MegaMan universes like X and Legends that need the attention more than Battle Network does.

Oh yes, now with the power of online, if Capcom uses this IP right it would be a new heavy hitter.
Well shit, I hadn't thought of that. It would be interesting to see them try to implement something closer to the in-universe concept, but I wouldn't want it to end up being a grindy-ass MMO.

O so the issue with post 4 is that the gameplay systems were downgraded and the graphics got hit. And that stayed for SF (which isn't BN) othwerwise, the battle systems are not really done to death at all.

Also as much as people like X and Legends BN actually sold. It took the original Mega Man 28 years to get a third game to sell 1 million units and that was a collection barely reaching it. And Capcom currently is trying to create multiple hit franchises to get it back into shape.

I have zero interest in these games.

I care for Mega Man 1-10 and Mega Man Legends 1.
Mega Man X I can tolerate but my interest towards the X series stops there.

I once thought I perhaps should try a Battle Network game when I browsed then on Wii U eShop, but I never bought one.

So i take it like most you didn't like Legends 2 then?

Never played it so I wouldn't know. For some reason I haven't had much interest to go and try it.
Legends 1 has something special going for it. Whatever I've seen and read about Legends 2 just seems like it lacks that special something the first game has.

I remember I had to buy region 3 official DVD for season 3 with Chinese subs as somehow no one was fansubbing it. It was a different time. Anyway, both game and anime was great and how badass the first time Neko used program advance

It's a no , at least from me.

It happened to sell through GBA/DS which is the very popular handheld and also catering casual kids audience. The game also get big push from TV Anime too. which is not fair to other entry to compare.

Those said audience I think mostly move onto mobile game or grown up. The new gen kids also not knowing much about Mega Man.

I don't think it's going to work out well.

For me, I want full fledge XOver game to return that is not mobile gacha game. It has some cool design and interesting concept. (which also use in MM11 i guess)

Star Force and original Mega Man had TV shows as well though.

I'd rather have star force or whatever it was called back.

I mean gameplay wise, StarForce and BN are very similar. To the point that the argument that SF was BN with items and stuff renamed to be wrong, but not that far off from a real argument.

While this is true, I never cared for the gameplay in either games. I played for the story, as stupid as that sounds, and I could never get behind the whole megaman.exe thing. Whereas in SF, the protagonist was megaman, and actually could appear in the real world. At least I think, it's been 100 years since I played it. Also I liked Luna.

I'd take it minus the split editions, or at least an online function to trade chips.

Dig the world, dig the anime, just needs a proper medium.

Actually the protagonist was a pre-teen boy merging with an alien to form Mega Man.

At least the EXE-thing made Mega Man his own character (even though he's really the protagonists dying brother transferred to a computer program but eh..)

They should totally bring back the Battle Network series after they have brought back Mega Man Legends. I need closure. I am even willing to accept that they need to shift it to newer platforms, even though I specifically bought a 3DS for that game.

It was a fad, but if they could put out one more game for a trip down memory lane. Then they should remake the first game for next gen consoles.
