I actually agree, which is why I lowered it. It was only meant to be an example. Check my other video if you want an example of slower battles.
 
Btw, THIS: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2927/ is what makes FFIX playable.

I found FFIX to be just a bit bland/by the numbers after FFVIII & FFVII (two of my favourites), but the mentioned mod/hack also adds a high difficulty level which imo adds just the right amount of spice to the game that I feel was lacking.

The difference is that in town now etc, every purchase matters etc, leveling, equipment, planning. Add that to a reasonably charming world & atmosphere along the way and it can be a pretty solid game. Would recommend if it's been a while though, and you've forgotten enough, as there are a lot of other good games around to demand your time these days.

Not a fan of fast forwarding personally as it ruins the pace/immersion for me (a game should have this), if a game requires it then I feel that it's probably the game itself that just isn't for me. Load times I can live with as usually am playing on real hardware.

Can this be used on the pc version?
 
I released a mod to set the battle FPS to 24 and the booster speedup to x2 in the FFIX OT as well, but to be fair I still think that's too fast. The reason why I made that mod was because everything looks really choppy when the battle FPS is limited to 15.

To be fair I think the ultimate release of FFIX would have battle FPS on 60, but the actual speed of the battle system and the animations the same (though interpolated so it isn't choppy anymore). Those who think the animations are slow can just speed it up with a x2 booster or something, but anything more is crazy and I would personally play most of the game without booster (yes, I don't mind the 10 second camera pans).
The PC release sucks for other reasons though - I hate literally all of the changes they did to the UI since the PSOne version: it's too large (designed for smartphones and never adapted to PC), it flickers at times (the text balloons), etc. So as it stands, the PSOne version is still my favourite.

FFX too. After playing those two games, IX becomes so much more fun in comparison.

VIII's soundtrack is great as music you listen to outside of the game, much better suited there than IX's soundtrack - I agree. But IX's music focuses much more on fitting the world and atmosphere better and that really helps in making IX's world much more immersive than VIII's IMO. As in, it's coherent with what's actually going on in the game instead of overpowering it. Uematsu continued that trend in The Last Story, which some people also consider one of his lesser works, but as a soundtrack meant to be played in-game I think it's one of his greatest.

I do agree that the music is much better in its context, its just really disappointing after how fantastic VII/VIII's OSTs were.

I love Insane Difficulty and these mods but they only work on the PSX versions so far. I hope they make one for the PC version soon.
 
That's pretty cool. Micro flexibility and customization is definitely better than just god mode + super fast everything.

I never had a problem with this game, so the title is hyperbolic imo. That clip is a definitely a bit hyper for my taste, if only for the fact that it's now completely out of character and tempo with the music. This is where you would need the dynamic music approach, which would change the music fundamentally and then no longer coalesce with the aesthetic and story pacing etc. There's more to balancing an experience than convenience.

Sorry I'm not sure but can confirm it works on real hardware. PC likely possible with an emulator which I'm guessing could perhaps go towards mimicking a few of the PC improvements - which I'm assuming are mostly just performance/graphical in nature as unfortunately am totally unfamiliar with the version, apologies.
 
I recently replayed the game on PC and while the battles are somewhat slow by today's standards, disabling the camera pan helps a lot. Your solution just makes battles look like a mess.

a) No, no they don't b) that kind of interpolation that people do in "60fps anime" threads doesn't work the majority of the time. Anime is mostly animated at twelve frames per second, sometimes even as low as eight. Adding more frames makes it look bizarre and bad.

To be honest, I think another thing that works in IX's soundtrack's favor is how consistent it is. FFVII and VIII certainly have more tracks that stand out than IX, but both also have a lot of stuff that's not really good. Beyond maybe Zidane and Quina's themes, everything in FFIX is at least good.
 
Also, for what it's worth, after playing through IX again when the PC version came out, I honestly found that the encounter rate is actually kind of low, which balanced out battles going more slowly than previous games.
