what happened to Beard of the Forest?

does he still work for gaf? or did he leave? staff page still lists him...but his name doesnt exist anymore and he wasnt banned...
Huh. Last I heard from him he was arguing with me about an image I posted in the funny pics thread about trans people. The entire conversation was deleted from the thread and the image not allowed, even though the content of the image was not any more offensive than many of the anti-trans opinions stated here in relevant threads. Evilore stepped in and deemed it inappropriate and deleted the whole argument about it.

interesting. thanks for the insider information. explains why not listed on ban page - he was either terminated or went into gaf witness protection service and got a new account secretly.

The ignore function should work like Twitter blocking. One side initiates it, it applies to both parties. I don’t see them, they don’t see me.

Better that way, imo
How would this be better? If you want to close your mind to what other people are saying on this discussion board, have at it. But that decision shouldn't affect other user's experience with the site. It's a discussion board, not twitter.

Jare, I say this with love.

Harden the fuck up, cunt.

Edit: I also just noticed that you are 13th on the list of all time likes and I've only noticed you posting here for less than 6 months (post-purge anyway). Why the hell have you been complaining about likes?

The last post on the first page of the gaming side was four hours ago. I’ve got no proof but I remember it being not even close to that last year.

The gaming side is the absolute core of neogaf, and if they focus on increasing activity and posting up-to-minute neckbeard gaming news, everything else (OT, et al) will fall into place.

Personally, I’d like to see the OTs of big releases have those monster threads again so I can lurk and read impressions. Same with movies and TV shows on this side.

I see @Hobbesian copped a perm for insulting the community as a whole after the broken TV / apex legends overscan thread backfired.

I feel like maybe that was a tad heavy-handed. Granted, the guy dipped into using insulting and/or superior language more often than he should, but the rest of his posting had some decent discourse and argumentation to it outside of that.
It just seems a bit much given that some recently-temped shitposters (who shall remain nameless) earned their 1-2 week bans for, in my opinion, more egregious stuff. They get to come back and have another go with their low-tier discourse, whereas @Hobbesian got the hard boot and no second chance to shore up his attitude.

Now granted, I think I've been on his ignore list since a run-in a week or two back, which makes me an unlikely candidate for the defense. I could also be missing reams of context that fed into the perm, but it nonetheless strikes me as something worth speaking up about.

I think he was making a great point, only to be met with "lol your TV is broken buy a new one", and somehow gets a ban for telling the shitty people they're shitty. The mods/Evilore seem to have a thin skin at times, I feel like I've seen a few people get the boot for pretty basic negative comments about the forum/members.

The dude was throwing a hissy fit and calling an entire forum "unsympathetic" for not caring that his 10 year old TV isn't working as well as a modern TV for modern games. People weren't being shitty, they just weren't coddling him. Not to mention the myriad of other posts of his that were both thinly veiled and completely blatant personal attacks.

I'm not seeing a hissy fit in that thread, he made a legitimate point and a detailed OP, and no one would back him on it, first post did say email them, which is good advice. Then everyone wanted to shove the broken TV in his face and call it a day.

Quite sure none of them lurk here. But you should email them

You want them to change the game because your TV is broken?
Snide comment that misses OP's point? 13 likes

If my TV broke, I would look into buying a new TV instead of asking the devs to change a game to work on my broken TV.
Another snide comment not addressing OP's point, 4 likes

My old ass TV is broken! I demand you patch your game ASAP! :messenger_hushed:

I know GAF has a bit of a reputation for being tight with cash :messenger_tears_of_joy: but come on! You could probably get a newer TV for free, that works on a site like freecycle or similar.

He then calls the community unsympathetic. I only read a bit on the first page to get a feel for why he was banned, but it felt like a dogpile on a poster who was making a valid point and who dared to speak ill of the community.

My comment didn't miss OP's point. OP's point was that the bottom part of his TV was broken and he expected the developer to release a feature to allow him to resize the display area so that a game would fit his broken screen. Because naturally developers should design games with broken displays in mind.

His point was about it being a standard feature that is absent from this game. He's not asking for it because his TV is broken, his tv is broken and he wonders why this near ubiquitous feature isn't in this game.

I would have expected more "Good point about the feature, but maybe it's also time for a new TV?", less, "Entitled manbaby wants developers to cater to his broken ass setup"

Yeah, that thread went south pretty hard. Visual safe zones are a standardized feature in the TRCs of both console manufacturers, and one that's been around since the CRT era, so it's not an entirely unreasonable expectation to have.

That said, there does appear to be a system-level option in the PS4's settings for exactly that- what we don't know is whether he had already set it only to have the game ignore it, or didn't know about it and assumed there would be a game-side implementation as with certain other titles.

I'm beginning to suspect the purge of the lefties a while back has emboldened the more mad right-wing nutjobs. It's obviously hard to strike a balance but really, just as the SJWs need to be kept in their box, so the right equivalent (tax-is-theft, crazy racists, etc) need the same.

Except it isn't nearly ubiquitous by a long stretch, sure it's in a lot of games, mostly AAA ones, but it's missing from plenty of others. Does OP make a new thread with the same complaint for each of those games? Or just the ones he wants to play? Or does he solve the root issue by replacing the broken thing he owns?

Now, I thought the perm was harsh, but I don't know what else has gone on with him in the past or behind the scenes. But there's a good reason the majority of people were ribbing on him in that thread. There's plenty of examples of sensible questions asked elsewhere on this forum with sensible answers and this was definitely not one of them.
