Metal Gear Rising PS3 Demo - direct feed

I am on Windows 8 and can't see to play the lovely 60fps .WMV video. Does it require a special codec?

EDIT: Tried it on a couple of PCs now and we can't get it to work. Is the file on the site OK?
EDIT: The MP4 doesn't work either on any program I try

Try the video on your console.

I'm on windows 7 and neither media player or VLC can open the file. 2.5gb. Bummer.

I loved what I played of this at Eurogamer.

It's not a looker as such but when the game is in full motion it's difficult to care. The game is dripping with Platinum's quality standard and it sings at 60fps. Great fun, too. Really pleasing to see a legitimately good game spawn from the slicing concept.

Mizuhara how the hell did you do that Palm Strike @4:55 (Gamersyde vid)???

I've never seen that before, even on Konami's official walkthroughs. DAMNNNNN

Also, I hope the White/Red "blood" thing is optional and you can choose one, I like white blood a lot more in this game.

On the options topic, can you turn off the slowmotion stuff? The 60fps vid was the first time I've seen so much slowmotion (not counting Blade Mode of course).

don't everything you cut disappear after a couple of seconds?
I've been playing around with this in the tutorial stage, and the pieces from what you just cut don't disappear if you stay nearby. It's actually how I was able to get to the hidden cardboard box in the demo. I had to cut one of 2 pillars that were supporting a bridge, then climb on the 45deg angled bridge to get to it.

Maybe in the Western version, but for the Japanese version I remember Kojima saying they were still negotiating with CERO to get the red fluid in the game.
There are slowmotion sequences every time you kill the last enemy in any zone, which sucks cause it prevents you from getting the blue thing before they disappear.

can I suggest that these be added to the opening post please? the ones there at the moment make the game look terrible, but these make the game look extraordinary. played properly, it looks incredible.

That's not as bad as I thought, I just don't get it. DmC does the same thing, I don't think it looks as awesome as they seem to think, I'd be much more satisfied by just seeing Raiden sheathing his blade while the rank screen pops up. During the first Gekko encounter in the 60fps video the slowmotion was ridiculous, it lasted so long.

Don't blame the game, the red sun gamer guy is fucking awful.

He got a lot better in the 60fps video, but he still does not enter blade mode when the zandatsu finisher pops up, making the everlasting slowmo look really stupid (which is more the game's fault really, it shouldn't punish you for not using blade mode with horrible and long slowmo, maybe on bosses it's ok, but not for a Gekko or even a regular stealth kill).

But the actual fight segments were a lot better, aside from the boss fight.

Downloading gamersyde footage.

Damn it's big lol

Man people are really digging into the guy for giving us early footage of the demo.

He's pretty much the reason we know it's a code and not on the disc. Chill out folks.....

When do we get the demo?

Next tuesday in the US when you buy ZoE collection

For everyone else probably not until within a month of the game's launch

is there currently a $10 off code?

I don't think so. I think the most recent one was for 10 off preorders over 50.

So is there a 360 version of this demo ? Any chance it gets uploaded and we can do the ol' download to USB thingy ?

Actually I haven't done that in so long I don't know if it still works (or even if it's okay to openly talk about it on GAF :x )

I much rather have 60fps than great graphics with a game like this.

This is orders of magnitudes politer that how I would put it, which basically would include detailed instructions about where to shove those allegedly superior graphics.

Seriously, if I was appointed president, my first move would be to make sub-60 FPS games literally illegal. Imagine that world for a second. Just imagine it.

Game's looking great. I've avoided all media of this up until now; this game gives me contradictory feelings for all the wrong reasons; on one hand it has been in development hell for far too long and I'm a bit sick of Metal Gear in general and Raiden in particular. On the other hand, it's a freaking Platinum games action game, it can't be anything else than stellar and a must-play.

That grab-beads-looking-energy-cells-guts-whatever-and-smash-them animation seems like it could get really old, really fast, though... :/

When it comes to gameplay, PG kinda does shit out gold though....

Was going to post that too. Evidently each person has their own tastes, but for me, it's not just that PG is top of the game, it's that nobody else even comes remotely close. And believe me, I WISH that wasn't the case. :/

Looks fun but it got tiring to watch him grasp the cyborg spine thing and dramatically crush it over and over.

Welp...Time to cancel my ZoE preorder!

(He is doing an Anubis analysis next which I'm interested in seeing.)

Boy that spine-grabbing thing sure gives the combat a more repetitive, shallow tone than it should have. The instant slow-mo telling you to do the big close-up slashing and spine-grabbing every.single.time aren't helping matters, either.

You big points for them, iirc. You can still get EP without it, but it's more lucrative doing the spine grabs. So get used to it.

I don't mind the spine-grabbing, but the slowmo is really annoying. On bosses and Zandatsu finishers where the word pops up on the screen is fine, but it shouldn't slow the time for regular enemies damn it.

That's the big issue I see there. There's little reason NOT to do them. Not only does the game basically slap you across the head with the slow-mo telling you to do them, but you also get EP, there's a shitload of invincibility frames(one of the expert walkthroughs you see even right after the animation is over, a grenade has no effect on Raiden), and it seems cutting people into multiple parts adds a shitload to your score or some kind of multiplier for those elusive S-Ranks.

Another very-good Platinum action game with the potential to be great if not for some shallow game design decisions that narrow the depth of the gameplay?

Vanquish 2, indeed.

Can't say I disagree. I like doing them, personally, but I can see how they'd bother others.

I'm curious to hear what you think about the sub-weapons system. That's one of my biggest beefs with the game.
