Has problems recognising girls
Sad state of affairs.. I've been a very close fan of the MGS series ever since delving into my friend's copy of MGS (which I later bought myself for a mere $5) almost a decade ago and MGS3 was probably one of the greatest games I was ever able to play in the past 5 years.

But I find myself so troubled to try and excite myself about MGS4. Each new snippet of gameplay or cut-scene video just seems to degrade the anticipation for it. I'm blaming it on the current state of affairs that there is no Otacon action in most of the trailers, hence my love for it fading - but I've come to terms that this excuse is bullshit as MGS3 had zero Otacon, so why should I be feeling as such?

I talked about this problem somewhat to a friend and he stated it was purely just based on my sad face on MGS4 not getting a port announcement for 360 at this year's E3, but I merely stated I only wanted that to happen to see GAF meltdown. Heck I'd buy a PS3 just for MGS4.. the only problem is the more I see of it, the less excited I am the more boring it becomes.

Help me turn my opinion! Help GAF!

I'm assuming your friend knows you better than we do

My interest is nearing zero. I used to be a huge Metal Gear fan. Before the third one came out, I started to lose interest. I barely finished the third game, because the game is starting to seem archaic in gameplay design. It was difficult to want to finish it.

I haven't watched anything on MGS4 besides that first trailer released way back when. Looked like a lot of the same back then, so I have mostly tuned it out since then.

I'm more turned off by the setting and "Old Snake" character than by anything else. The game looks gorgeous, though.

Don't worry. We'll put you in the same room with the hardcore Resident Evil fans, who couldn't get into RE4 and now bitch about RE5. In the sanitarum, that is.

1. find a good eye surgeon

2. tell your boss you need two weeks off to remove cataracts from your eyes

3. Erase your views on previous metal gear solid games and look at the new one with no expectations, no preconceived notions.

4. get over the whole not coming to 360 deal

5. if you look at it after all that and still don't like it then move on to another game/series ;)

The WOW factor of MGS4 from its initial trailer has been eclipsed by many other titles already.

The latest E3 trailer just wasn't that impressive to me.

At this point: Give me Heavenly Sword and Warhawk. Don't really care about MGS4 now. I'll probably still get it but it's not a guarantee now.

Your opinion now turned

My interest in MGS4 was dropping until that gameplay demo came out. Hype +10000. I guess it helps that MGS1 and 3 are two of my favorite games of all time though. I just hope at one point during MGS4 Snake comes across an empty barrell and Otacon tells him to do a barrell roll.

:D

I felt like this with MGS3 then when I played it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I ever had in a game. So don't worry, when you play MGS4, you'll enjoy it all the more for it. Being overly hyped isn't that great a thing.

Maybe this isn't to do with the game itself, but games in general.

Maybe this environment and all the hype surrounding a game has subconsciously convinced you that it will be this huge positive event in your life, but as it comes closer to realisation and it moves from subconsciousness into consciousness, you realise that it's just a game...

It looks like a fantastic game, but that's all it is, a game.

No film, book, album, game... anything like that, can live up to months and months of solid hype.

I suggest this because this is what I do - I subconsciously latch on to events in the future, from vacations to product consumption - and allow it to balloon in my subconscious to fill all these gaps in what I want for the future, without even rationally considering whether it will do that. And when it finally arrives, you realise you were just procrastinating the little voice inside your head that tells you you need "something more than this".

After watching the MGS4 gameplay video, I'm more exited about the game more than any other. The more I see, the more exited I get about it.

I really like the direction that this game is taking. If there are going going to be any more metal gear games made by kojima or anyone else, I hope that the game takes place in a war like environment.

You watched that gameplay demonstration and became less hyped about MGS4? Wow...
I play the MGS series for the story and characterisation, the action and gameplay are insignificant. But on that viewpoint, I was hell excited for MGS2 after that E3 trailer (which was mostly gameplay sequences) so maybe I should be eating my own crow about this entire debacle? Problem is I can't for some reason.

Why is there a question mark after metal gear solid 4?.

I was taught to write that way for some reason or another. Habbit.

Well they've shown pretty much the same stuff for 2 years now haven't they?
Yes. I was surprised how we saw quite a few number of locales from all the trailers just in that brief demo. Which either means that the Middle-east level isn't really all that expansive or that they really haven't shown all that much to begin with. I'm leaning towards the latter

They've got a couple or more environments like South America and East Europe that they have basically not shown at all.

I have to agree...while the game looks fantastic, I could care less. It seems like the same game with features that have finally been added to make the game better. I'm sure I will love it when I'm playing it but I'm not really hyped for it. Now in contradicting what I just stated above about a game feeling exactly the same I am hyped about RE5.:D

I think it has something to do with the length of time it's been since the first announcement and actually getting the game in your hands, which next-gen platforms are becoming infamous for. It's what many used to call "Nintendo Syndrome". A game is announced WAY too early, it's met with an extended period of ZERO gameplay impressions and no one, including the press, having any hands-on time with it... it's like watching someone else play a video game and not getting a turn; by the time it's FINALLY your turn an hour or so later, you've already lost interest and left to go do something else.

I'm less excited because the gameplay/control looks just as rigid as ever, and it was definitely not designed around the over-the-shoulder view like RE4 and Gears, so in half of the gameplay videos it feels like Snake is just in the way of what you are trying to see.

It looks beautiful and I'm sure I'll enjoy playing through the game once (or more, depending on how the story can change based on your actions), but for me, the series peaked with the first few hours of MGS2, and the gameplay/controls just haven't kept up with other advancements in the industry.

This is how I'm affected for Assassin's Creed and Stranglehold. They were announced way to early and now I have no interest in them. Still looking forward to MGS4 though.

Did you see the latest gameplay video?

I'm not going to lie, I was falling in the same state as you before I saw it. The graphics were starting to look really mediocre in the face of recent games, the gameplay vid from TGS seemed ancient and boring. In fact, even when I watched the first part of the latest video I thought it looked pretty disappointing and disinteresting gameplay-wise. I mean the animations still need lots of work, enemies at first don't appear too bright and seem to follow pretty obvious set paths, it all seemed very last gen outside of Octocam.

But then!

Then Snake reached the battle between side A and side B. And that single handedly changed my mind about everything. The intensity of the battle, the immersion of the visual treat before me, the impact that helping one side or the other will have! This is what I'm talking about! Metal Gear in the next-gen!

Now I am excited again :D

I'm a fan of the series and own the main games but I'm not overly excited for this either...

I dont really care for the setting of this game, the cluster **** of returning characters, the over the top fighting or still stupid AI but im happy they changed the shit camera system. Snakes sexy old man ass is distracting though.

dont care at all about the story in MGS (is a ****ing mess anyway), but the gameplay looks amazing. MGS4 looks to up the ante quite a bit from MGS3.

WTF? You would be better off reading a good book then. MGS story, while competent, really ain't that good and mostly has its head up its own ass.

Personally the new gameplay demonstration excited me a lot. I really don't give much of a crap for the PS3 at the moment or the foreseeable future as I simply can't afford it so I tend to overlook its games, but MGS4 is the game that will make me buy one eventually just like MGS2 did for the PS2.

Why play the game then? You pull the same moves, you do the same sequences, it's the same things over and over. Why progress through the game otherwise. Same argument, differing point of view.

I was never interested in the garbage that is the MGS series but there are people who loves it. I wonder how can someone play a game that is basically a low budget B movie wannabe, 2 hours of gameplay but like 10 hours of horrible cutscenes. I'm glad that hack kojima didn't make it into the movie business.

:lol . This is a trap indeed. By the way I wouldn't be too sure, Kojima might end up directing the mgs movie.
