Metal Gear Solid 4 new video (SPOILERS)

I just think it's KP playing around. It's like how we got Gene Meme Scene Sense because of rhyming and cadence, even though it's probably not the right words to use if you were really looking to express the meaning of the concepts. This new trailer is RE this, RE that, because it makes a greater impact, from repetition. I wouldn't read too deeply into it, because they're probably using synonyms with a roughly similar meaning just to fit the pattern they've created themselves.

Didn't they do similar wordplay for one of the MGS3 trailers using words for eating and stuff?
Obviously... So the RE, clearly stands for something. They're not just highlight RE because they think it looks neat

SMZC said:
WrikaWrek already has. You're taking that sentence too literally, that's the problem.
That's the only way to take it and it was the big statement at the end of the trailer and it was purposefully teasing... Not saying you could but more of a "what if you could?" Unless it's purposefully horrible English, how are you supposed to take "replay MGS" as anything but replaying MGS?

No, I'm saying exactly the opposite. They're doing it because it looks neat even though it doesn't mean anything. Or at least the meaning is bent to fit the visual stylistic aspect.

I think what it means is not a literal replaying of MGS, but of revisiting the themes and ideas, and the feeling of MGS, and obviously part of that is revisiting Shadow Moses, like Wrika says. I think hoping for a remake, or interpreting this trailer as such, is probably wishful thinking. Or as KP might say, REally wishful thinking :P

Did anyone notice that
Snake has a full beard? At least it looks like he bears one, just look at it before he's turning directly into the camera.Could be the shady quality of the vid

I'm not at all reading the thread or watching the video, but if it has what I had heard it has from the brief snippets I've seen, you
will replay some of the boss fights and events of the previous games as flashbacks with MGS4 level graphics.

This is just stuff I had speculated on in my wildest hopes and dreams. If true, a recent South Park episode comes to mind is what my living room will look like when I get to play this game.

If true, I'll say right here that I CALLED IT!

*bails out of thread and back into the media blackout abyss*

If there includes a full remake (which I think is unlikely) wouldn't they have to include *that* radio frequency on the back of the cd case again? :D

I wonder if the Groznyj Grad map in MGO will be in the single player game somehow. Yea, it's obviously Shadow Moses in MGS4 time. We'll probably be revisiting a lot more elements, in-jokes, and characters from previous games than we once thought. Maybe there's some hint of this in the artwork where you can see some of the rogue Foxhound members from Shadow Moses beneath old snake among other things.

It's not the only way to take it.

The idea is to "replay" MGS1 by going back to Shadow Moses and re-experience what you felt with the game the first time you played it. He's doesn't want us to have similar experience by giving us a remake, he wants to take us back to 1998 when we first played MGS1, just as Snake is also reliving his past experiences.

As I said, don't take it so literally.

It doesn't look neat though, and there's no purpose of it by your logic. They're just chose that line of wording/repetition for no reason

WrikaWrek said:
If you take it letter by letter, then...the answer is in the Video. There's the original, and there's already a remake.

Oh so the whole lead up to that final statement in the video was just a nice little advertisement for Twin Snakes?:lol

WrikaWrek said:
Maybe. But what we saw, didn't happen during MGs1.
Could be plenty of reasons for that.

The implication of a remake was posed as a question. True or false, they weren't confirming anything. Having it with those confusing elements of MGS4 leaves it unconfirmed.

It would've used a more appropriate word, like "relive MGS", not replay.

It's REpetitious REs to REmind you of their REal intention for their REcreational software.

That's all I see it as; wrangling words slightly to fit a pattern.

Danm i just thought of this, What if kojima
Wanted us to remember Shadow moses and all the past events by playing trough the levels?, I mean its hell of alot better than just seeing the MGS:1 cut scene. And the Mind blowing factor would have gone trough the roof . Otacons taking you some where with the helicopter and a white flash comes on,your suddenly young snake your mind is already blown. Than your in a snowy place and you keep walking and in the far distance something looks very familiar...and then you notice its shadow moses, You start to cry because of the pure awesomeness and all the good memories you had their
Its too bad that now we can expect whats gonna happen when
Otacon is taking old snake for a ride in the helicopter
:( .... :D MGS4 cant wait

I have a complaint to express:
Why coundn't Kojima just put the MGS1 project on hold for 10 years and release it now on PS3???? Why couldn't Kojima just wait for 10 years and then create MGS1 for PS3 directly????
I mean the MGS1 scenes with MGS4's engine disturbed my mental harmony....

Because for me its simply MGS1>MGS2>MGS3>>>>>>godly>>awesomeness

This is a grave injustice!....

MGS trailers are never intentionally misleading. Remember that Vulcan Raven was on the tanker during MGS2.

Cool trailer though.

Oh come on, he'd already been eaten by his birds and the shadow was stiff and unmoving. That was something of a tip-off.

There were people on this forum that believed otherwise at the time. Some people even thought the Ninja was Gray Fox. Remember this was all in the same trailer that had Liquid coming back through Ocelots arm, IIRC.

I think Shadow Moses will be in MGS4. I just think it is a bit much to assume that MGS4 contains a remake of MGS1.

He was in the tanker, though. As an action figure :P

heh i think you ought to cover that last part up....could be a spoiler for mgs2 virgins

anyone else think this mgs1 level might end up as a map in Metal Gear online?

I wonder if the final area is
Outer Heaven from MG1 as some have speculated
, maybe they'll do a similar flashback trailer showing it off as we get closer to the release date.

Based on that trailer, I think there are a few things we can assume.

1. This scene takes place during the MGS4 timeline, sometime after snake gets the Octocamo. But sometime before the all out war, as he is not wearing a plate-carrier.
2. This is a post Shadow Moses incident look at the island. There are no guards, and everything looks destroyed.
3. Doesn't appear to be a remake or memory of MGS1 because snake enteres through the East instead of taking the South elevator up.

Conclusion: I would be willing to bet that we start playing as snake old and then at some point there is a flashback to sometime before when we play as him before the accelerated aging had taken full effect.

Looks like David Hayter has a bigger influence then he himself expected:

David Hayter Kojima Report Podcast

From 4:15 onwards.

Maybe this ? Looks very similiar to what we have now.

What next him writing the MGS live action movie? ( Oh hell yeah, that'd be SWEET)
btw

I bet RP is like, you ungrateful heathens! Now you come to your senses!

I've been thinking that ever since I saw that we were now going to play as old Snake. I hope it's true, even though old Snake is awesome.

Similiarly, I think we play as Old Snake, and also re-live the incidents that happened after Sons of Liberty as young Snake, this was one of those.

I'm sure there is no MGS1 remake in MGS4. But this is still pretty neat.

I really wonder what this young snake/old snake thing is all about.
It doesn't look like a flashback, so what is it?

I like this idea.

:lol I just had an Idea which would never happen but would blow my mind nonetheless;

What if they changed the Release date one month earlier to May 12th?

OMEGATON

It wouldn't be good for me since I'll be having finals that week and I need at least a month to prepare my mind for MGS4.

David Hayter wrote a treatment and got rejected. He said it was like "Apocalypse Now for the digital era" or something, but nothing went his way. :(

Somehow, I got the impression that Snake had already "aged" quiet a bit in Sons of Liberty. The young Snake we've seen in MGS4 so far looks quiet a bit younger...

His screenplay work is being used for The Watchmen though, so that's good enough for me. :) He's really, really talented.
