Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

The biggest questions that this poses to me is:

Who is Big Boss talking to?
Who is the person with the burnt face?
How long does this take place after Peace Walker?
Why did Kojima say this was the first look at Solid Snake?

The first one I'm not sure, the second can probably be figured out by the voice actor (I'm not familiar with the Japanese voice actors), the third is the most intriguing and difficult one to guess. Assuming the boy in the cage is Chico (which seems most likely, considering Chico wanted to be a man, and a soldier, he was referred to as that, he was reportedly in the compound and he was told that "she" did not suffer long, [about who she is]
presumably Amanda
) it doesn't seem possible that it's over ten years after Peace Walker, Chico is still far too young for that to be the case. Maybe two or three years after Peace Walker putting it in 1973? Maybe it will take place over multiple years, especially if this is a prologue to MGS5 and MGS5 is a Metal Gear remake.

As for the fourth, this is intriguing too. Combined with the cryptic information, dual protagonists seems possible.

Saw the 1080p footage, yea this is a current gen game for sure. The environment is simple, there isn't any crazy geometry in that level. The rain effects also look ok and if you watch closely, the guard's raincoats don't animate during gameplay.

The engine has great next gen potential but yea, that was all current gen stuff.

Edit: Textures and shadow resolution will be dialled back for console release but otherwise, it should be a good port.

It looked "early next gen" to me.

Not saying that it's impossible but man... it looks really good.

That kid isn't Chico. Not only has Big Boss clearly aged by at least a decade since Peace Walker, yet it's still a kid in the cage, but they specifically send a guy to go capture Chico in the trailer.

So so sessy.
How anybody could possibly try to shit on this in any way baffles me.
(Well I can think of one or two reasons why it could happen)
Kojima always knows how to deliver and I rike it.

compared to mgs4 :
this has a bigger gameplay.
more effects and lighting,motion blur.
more detailed textures.

thats a big improvement for being in the same console.

either it wont look like that or its targeted for current and next gen.
that lightning, maybe im wrong, doesn't exist in any current console game.
and no,developers releasing multiple good looking games on current consoles are not worse than konamis.

Watch the 1080p video...nothing in it touches the next gen stuff we have seen. The environments are normal mapped to hell, the rain hardly bounces off anything, the geometry is simple. Like I said before the textures and shadow resolution will be dialled back for the consoles release. Otherwise I don't see anything here that can't be done on these consoles.

it didn't look next gen at all...it's coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 afterall. It has some cool effects but they will be dialled back for the consoles.

GTA4 wasn't 720p, either.

Granted, Max Payne 3 instilled a lot of hope of them figuring out the PS3 hardware, but the scale of that game is obviously quite a bit smaller.

They're both Rockstar titles though and everyone knows that Rockstar's engine isn't the most PS3 friendly and they tend not to lead or devote a great deal of time to their PS3 versions. PS3 has some great looking open world games like Infamous 2 - which has crazy physics and lighting effects for an open world game and Just Cause 2 which is gorgeous. Add the fact that Kojima knows how to code for cell and has made a ps3 friendly multi platform engine - I don't think it'll be a GTA / RDR scenario here.
By the way is there any word on a provisional release for this game yet? Next year? 2014?

I think all yall that thing this is doable on PS3 without massive downgrading are on drogas
I am, but that has nothing to do with it.

KojiPro said it was being demoed at PS3/360 specifications. I'm willing to believe them until proven otherwise. I mean they were pulling off effects in MGS2 Sony's own devs weren't nailing down until 2005. And most of those endeavors ran at half the framerate (or worse) of MGS2.

Kojima attracts talent. I mean the first tech demos of MGS4 had translucent skin. Something they never achieved on the final hardware. Glossy maps and good animation are menial in the processing arena compared to trying to give a character skin that reacts realistically to light.

Until proven otherwise I believe them. That might be the pot talking.

Definitely looks like one.

Yup, I agree. Doesn't look anything like the PS logo either. The one in the poster has two distinct 'lines' of white and is missing the grey 'S' detail. That doesn't explain why it was missing in the trailer though. Let's hope it was either just a mistake or konami keeping it's card close to it's chest.

"The guy" is Big Boss. He's going to go rescue Chico. Because Chico is in the base. He's being held in a cage in the base.

And Big Boss doesn't look like it's necessarily a decade. The Peace Walker artwork showed that his hair was already supposed to be graying, and this could easily be a couple of years later. Mercenary work ages a man.

haha man, i don't know why but nobody gets me more excited about a game, or gaming in general like a Kojima Metal gear announcement

Love his games, style, attention to detail, and just knowing how to put some wow factor into things.

I finally got to my computer to watch this, and on second look it's entirely possible on PS3. Castlevania rain & shaders + Uncharted 2/3 seamless area transitions + Killzone 2/3 post processing, and you have this.

it could happen by looking a bit worse than we saw here....

That is the best trailer I have seen in a long time.

Kojima delivers once again.

I am so incredibly glad to get this title, this gen has been really rough for me personally and there have only been a relative handful of games that have gotten me really excited.

This will be the game I look most forward to since Dark Souls.

The person sent to rescue Chico is Big Boss. Three different people are talking in the trailer, scarface, Big Boss and somebody else. Scarface stops talking after he removes XOF from the helicopter.

Konami, not Kojima. Most likely a mistake, the screen is from the footage we've seen and is clearly Big Boss.

Oh, unfortunate then in some ways. It definitely is Big Boss in the trailer though, I absolutely agree.

Looks really sweet, will be interesting to see how it looks on current gen consoles and not off PC hardware, even if Kojima says it will be comparable.

All these names people are throwing around, I have no idea who Chico or Paz are, I really need to play Peace Walker.

So... you're saying it's Solidus?

;)

I don't know, I played RDR on both consoles and they looked similar though.

The point is the 360 handles open world games better because of the higher pool of ram. It's silly people keep saying, "PS3 can do this, but 360 probably I don't know" as if they're characters from DBZ with power levels. It's not so cut and dry.

anti aliassing and resolution.

every other game has shown that it can't be done in a way how it was done in this video.

MGS4 was jaggy as fuck. The Metal gear liquid games is vomit at 60fps. And every other big budget game on consoles was jaggie as hell too. especially open world games.

So either Kojima has a miracle engine, or this need to be relased next gen, when they can actually produce a clean image like this.

The difference between ps3 and 360 was pretty noticable imo (in RDR)

Ohhhh my mistake, I thought Scarface was the one talking about getting Chico.

Still think it'd be odd if Big Boss had aged that much in a couple of year though.

Holy shit, guys, the kid is Chico. It's not Liquid, or Solid, or Raiden, or Gray Fox.

But we're playing as the Boss right? She was brought back to life and grew a beard and now she is saving Chico (who?) and the Solidus and then she will give birth to Solid Snake at the end after having sex with the scarred guy?
