Holy shit, guys, the kid is Chico. It's not Liquid, or Solid, or Raiden, or Gray Fox.
Did anyone else think that Chico was the headphone kid? Scarface gave him the Walkman because he knew Big Boss would rescue him and it was some kind of surveillance device.
Saw the 1080p footage, yea this is a current gen game for sure. The environment is simple, there isn't any crazy geometry in that level. The rain effects also look ok and if you watch closely, the guard's raincoats don't animate during gameplay.
The engine has great next gen potential but yea, that was all current gen stuff.
Edit: Textures and shadow resolution will be dialled back for console release but otherwise, it should be a good port.
Does anyone else think that the guy with the burns in the trailer could be Coldman from Peace Walker? http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100129214758/metalgear/images/thumb/d/d0/Coldman_def_up_01_fix.jpg/1000px-Coldman_def_up_01_fix.jpg
I think people are just wowed by the cutscenes, not realizing the engine is probably optimized differently during those.
compared to mgs4 :
this has a bigger gameplay.
more effects and lighting,motion blur.
more detailed textures.
thats a big improvement for being in the same console.
either it wont look like that or its targeted for current and next gen.
that lightning, maybe im wrong, doesn't exist in any current console game.
and no,developers releasing multiple good looking games on current consoles are not worse than konamis.
It looked "early next gen" to me.
Not saying that it's impossible but man... it looks really good.
So this MGS will be a cross between GTA4 and Deus Ex?
GTA4 wasn't 720p, either.
Granted, Max Payne 3 instilled a lot of hope of them figuring out the PS3 hardware, but the scale of that game is obviously quite a bit smaller.
You just picked 2 games that were better on 360...
optimizing doesn't include doing effects that the graphic card don't support.
I am, but that has nothing to do with it.I think all yall that thing this is doable on PS3 without massive downgrading are on drogas
Definitely looks like one.
That kid isn't Chico. Not only has Big Boss clearly aged by at least a decade since Peace Walker, yet it's still a kid in the cage, but they specifically send a guy to go capture Chico in the trailer.
The biggest questions that this poses to me is:
Why did Kojima say this was the first look at Solid Snake?
As for the fourth, this is intriguing too. Combined with the cryptic information, dual protagonists seems possible.
I don't know, I played RDR on both consoles and they looked similar though.
Man, there was shaky cam footage with more gameplay.
But this video was badass. Reminded me of James Cameron during his Terminator 2 days.
Watch the 1080p video...nothing in it touches the next gen stuff we have seen. The environments are normal mapped to hell, the rain hardly bounces off anything, the geometry is simple. Like I said before the textures and shadow resolution will be dialled back for the consoles release. Otherwise I don't see anything here that can't be done on these consoles.
it didn't look next gen at all...it's coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 afterall. It has some cool effects but they will be dialled back for the consoles.

Konami, not Kojima. Most likely a mistake, the screen is from the footage we've seen and is clearly Big Boss.

"The guy" is Big Boss. He's going to go rescue Chico. Because Chico is in the base. He's being held in a cage in the base.
And Big Boss doesn't look like it's necessarily a decade. The Peace Walker artwork showed that his hair was already supposed to be graying, and this could easily be a couple of years later. Mercenary work ages a man.

The person sent to rescue Chico is Big Boss. Three different people are talking in the trailer, scarface, Big Boss and somebody else. Scarface stops talking after he removes XOF from the helicopter.

The point is the 360 handles open world games better because of the higher pool of ram. It's silly people keep saying, "PS3 can do this, but 360 probably I don't know" as if they're characters from DBZ with power levels. It's not so cut and dry.
In the hands of talented magicians even a GCN can impress.Yes of course, that's demo maker stuff. You can do all sort of crazy shits with crazy optimizations and trickery. The history of videogame is full of examples.

Oh, unfortunate then in some ways. It definitely is Big Boss in the trailer though, I absolutely agree.
