Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

I disagree, there's no proper foot planting in Uncharted 3 at times. This wins everything I have seen so far. I thought we hit the ceiling with Max Payne 3, but nope. Here comes Lord Kojima, ready to blow everything away.

I hate this man. I love this man.

Can you show me an example?

This thread is pretty funny because you have posts refusing to believe this is a PS3/360 game which are then subsequently followed by claims that what was shown wasn't impressive and it was all smoke and mirrors

this looks like a re-do of what 4 was attempting conceptually except this time the engine isn't an utter mess. undeniably impressive, but i don't want more metal gear. it will never be as effective as what 2 achieved. wish koji would move on, but he's never going to be free of the albatross around his neck, is he?

I saw this at the Kojima PAX panel and it looked incredible on the big screen. They made it very clear this is being targeted at current gen consoles.

I'd be more inclined to believe that the footage is representative of how the console versions would look if it wasn't a multiplat.

We all know that miracles can happen with exclusives in the final years of a console's life. Look at Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4 (okay there was a PS2 port of that one, but it was cut down significantly), God of War 2, Chronicles of Riddick, etc, from last generation. These sorts of things normally come from a developer exploiting every single trick in the book for a single piece of hardware.

Not trying to start a 'which console is more powerful than the other' debate, just saying that these sorts of technical miracles tend to only happen if you're developing for one specific hardware configuration.

who's to say that both console version will look equally good? Besides, last gen had a pretty big power gap between ps2 and xbox. A gap that doesn't really seem to be as big this gen.

More like: Please release it on the PC, Kojima. Plzkthxbai.

The cloth physics. It blew me away, and was the one thing that made the video look almost like a film at a few parts.

If it's anything like the old cutscenes, they precalculate the vertices in Maya or something, it's not real time physics. In other words, there's no reason that coat animation shouldn't look as good as L.A. Noire's facial animation.

......that's a PS2-era effect dude. O_o

PS1 games did it (badly) like FFVIII and some Basketball game.
Hell some SNES games did it with sprites :p.

Can you show me an example?

The most obvious one is running up stairs during the last sections of Uncharted 3. More often than not, his feet are not touching the ground the way they should. Drake gets some air time, lol.

in this state no.

if it was possible why...not...just...demonstrate...it...on....a....ps360?? :)

the hardware is available now lol.
if they said, realtime on ps3 or 360,that would create bigger hype....

Jesus, are the ellipses really necessary? :P

The game and engine are quite clearly in development, so I guess it makes sense to demo it on whatever hardware (in this case PC) you're making it on. Still, good to know I'm not alone in thinking this reaches quite a bit beyond what current gen consoles are capable of.

That and the random grabbing of walls as you're running was so annoying. Ugh. Looked terrible.

Like you said, Uncharted's animation was already bested by Euphoria in Max Payne 3, but this looks even better than both upon first glance.

Basically all console games are made on PCs :p

Well that was kind of my point. I struggle to believe that they could get the game looking that good on both consoles.

Hoping this is the Metal Gear that finally makes it click for me. Long as they keep all the weird stuff out of it. The first box I see him crawl under; it's gonna kill it for me.

It's a cutscene, though, so the animation could be entirely pre-made, just like they did on the PS2.

Unlike many Western devs, KojiPro aren't ashamed of using graphical tricks/hacks which only work within the constraints of a specific scene/environment/level instead of broad systems which can be used everywhere. Their PS2 games were entirely built around such techniques.

Remember this photo. Remember when this pic dropped most people were saying this was PC, next gen and Xbox could not run it like that.

Ubisoft made lots of people eat crow.

Look at Ground Zeroes. It will happen again on console.
