Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

Well then...I guess this is directly after Peace Walker. Guess the dramatic change in facial features is also more an artistic choice given the new found graphical power of the engine.

Okay, no further questions from me aside from whether this will be on PC or not. PC would be beyond excellent for me.

if you are such a fan of the series then you would know that Big Boss didn't have a mission in Kurdistan, he was there inspecting after the Gulf war inspecting refugee camps and that's when he met Sniper Wolf. she calls him Saladin because he saved her from that place. nowhere did it say he fought there.

I didn't he say he fought there, but still many new data have come after MGS1, if you only rely on MGS1 at Sniper Wolf's death, you won't get all your questions answered. Anyway has done plentiful work in his career as the legendary perfect soldier and you can make a new MGS for each of his missions.

I haven't been following this thread for a while, but I'm getting back in to the swing of exhaustively analyzing cryptic Metal Gear trailers. The theory I'm working under is:

Pretty much nailed it.

I would say XOF is a unit based out of the CIA or DOD (remember Ocelot is working behind the scenes and killed the last DCI)

The girl they mentioned is now dead would be Amanda. I imagine XOF is being tasked with killing of the FSLN (they went rogue at the end of Peace Walker and turned on their KGB benefactors). Without the FSLN, MSF have one less supporter (only one?) army

Considering how close this game follows Peace Walker (timeline wise) the Chico model is spot on age wise. Everyone questioned the model on the presumation this game was many years in the future)

I'm actually pretty shocked that Kojima debunked a lot of speculation and commented on Snake's haircolor.

I thought the main problem with the Chico model was it doesn't look like his PW (CG) model. But as that was a bit odd looking to me, I don't mind the change.

I still think this is going to be a next-gen game, as long as the cutscenes were real-time. Those are not possible on the 360/PS3. The in-game stuff looks possible on current-gen systems, but that may be because of where the camera is placed; you don't see all the details that are still there.

What details aren't we seeing? This would look a hell of a lot better if it was designed for the PS4/720. But it looks good enough as it is.

If the ps3 version is in the SAME fidelity (resolution and EQUAL anti aliassing) as this demo on pc, then it sure takes a nice swing at the ps3 graphics crown.

I don't think it will have the exact same fidelity though.

lol 1080p... Yeah right.

MGS4 wasn't even HD.

My money is on Paz though, seeing as she's also in the base.

Not to mention Chico has a thing for her.

Yeah watching the demo again, I dont think it will look as good as that on consoles....the level of detail, lighting, and size of the environments is pretty damn impressive...On the other hand, Kojima mentioned that alot of advanced techniques could be incorporated for a next gen version, so it is obviously aimed at this gen hardware.

exactly. And Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance looks like utter shit (in textures and anti aliassing).

To be fair though, MGS4 had a shitty engine. This Fox enigine could make a big difference. But not THIS big a difference (like the pc demo) on the ps3 imo (with shitty memory).

This would put it in late 1974.

Unless I'm mistaken there aren't any dates for the game beyond act 4, so it would be some time in 1975 or beyond?. Gives the timeframe of building Mother Base/Zeke and everyone living there after the Peace Walker incident a bit more plausibility. I agree with the rest of your post!

Not at all, that's the Metal Gear game I want the most. Liquid's past would be a fantastic game, and so much more interesting than the Boss or Sunny games I keep seeing thrown around.

Didn't liquid do a lot of assasinations, a game built around those missions is something I'd like see kojipro attempt

When I get back from holiday I think I'm going to play through the games again.

Also considering I don't have Peace Walker, is it worth getting the HD Collection? It would save me the trouble of hooking up the PS2 as well.

the textures in peace walker in the hd collection are blurry and bland. still a game worth experiencing and saves untangling and blowing dust off your old ps2.

MGS3 is much nicer at 60fps, and if you want to play Peace Walker, you will probably want the console version. Ultimately, I think it's well worth buying the Collection.

Actually, I'm going to end up buying it again on Vita, I want the VR missions from 2 because they'd be perfect for portable play, and I want MG1/2 from 3.

Revengeance is running at Platinum's engine and it's actually a 60fps game so what this has to do exactly with Ground Zeroes since it's a different engine and Kojipro are most likely going for a 30fps title? that being said of course I don't expect to see the final game on the current gen consoles to look like the PC demonstration but seeing how other devs have ported advanced engines like CryEngine 3 and Frostbite 2.0 on the PS360 decently (especially Frostbite) I don't see how a similar port can't happen...of course with the trade-offs that will come with it which will probably be compromises on IQ (res, AA, AF), texture quality and lighting...still it can be a really impressive looking game for a current gen game.

Story-wise its kinda para-phrasing MGS1 It seems.

I wouldnt be surprised if the guy with the disfigured face was one of the failed clones from the Les Infants terrible project.

yeah just because a game in the same universe. But ofcourse it's a different engine and framerate. Still looks kinda bad even for that though, but that's another topic.

Maybe Ground Zeroes will be impressive for this gen in terms of technical achievement, but the jaggies and lower reolution might ruin the clean look and beautifull art of the game. MGS4 was impressive too. But i thought the graphics were ruined by reolution and jaggies imo. Such a shame. Cause i LOVE the art direction in that game. L.O.V.E.

Right now (in this demo fidelity) it would be high on that list.

So Big Boss's age is due to the graphical engine and artistic reasons? Kind of a bummer at first, but at least we know now.

This makes me hope you can time shots with the thunder strikes (slightly after the lightning flash) to mask shot sounds...

Maybe, but it's kind of a moot point since that gun is silenced in the demo, and there is no thunder strike immediately following the lightning flash.

I wish they'd change the aiming reticle back to something more like MGS4. The weird open space with lines around it made shooting in Peace Walker much more awkward than it had to be. The reticle in the GZ footage seems tighter than the one for assault rifles in PW, but I don't like the look of the little auto-aim jump it does over the dude's head.

Glad that's settled, even if it kills most of the speculation in this thread lol.
Same thing I was thinking. This trailer seems impossibly straight forward for a Kojima MGS reveal now. Oh well, I'm sure we'll get more doses of crazy as time goes on.

There's still that weird orange lens flare/Animus fragment thing that pops up a few times. I'm sure there's a good theory about time travel or VR missions to be made with that.

The time travel/multiple time periods thing doesn't really hold any more now that we know that Snake isn't aged up. It looks like a DNA sequence to me, probably related to the Les Enfants Terribles project.

The only thing I'm wondering about is that hologram. They must have some nice tech at Mother Base.
