Going back and setting these stories in a story line that's already been done seems lame to me. Metal Gear I think needs to escape it's past continuity, characters, and even art style. This game is half way there, but even the art looks too much like 4.
Well I don't think the game is cyberpunk at all. But a fresh art style could make the series feel fresh again. It worked for Acid 2.Korigama said:Continuity and characters, yes (trying to tie together every game in the series before it was part of MGS4's problem). Art style, not at all. That remains the strongest aspect of the series, and there's already a distinctive lack of other cyberpunk-themed games aside from DX:HR as it is.

This. Its way better than rebooting. Just pretend that certain games don't exist.jett said:I agree that this series needs a clean slate. Wipe everything out. MGS4 just FUBAR'd everything.

MGS HD Collection is outsourced, except for Peace Walker (though looking at it, maybe it should have been outsourced) which is being done by KojiPro. I don't believe they are doing MGS3DS in-house at all, which probably explains the huge downgrade.Callibretto said:I want to know what Kojima is working on since Peace Walker. he move from MGS4 to PW and sadly many people dismiss PW because it's on psp and don't have the cinematic flair of console mgs. for people who loved that grandiose over the top mgs cinematic, it felt like Kojima hasn't made anything since MGS4.
surely Kojima is not focusing all his time to work on HD collection or mgs3ds port job is he?

Will be a 2012 title after all. People will probably freak out.

Snake goes on some mission. He's young again. Why? Who cares.
Hell, Snake isn't even necessary, but I feel like unless Shinkawa comes up with some awesome new design, there is going to be fan uproar ala Raiden in MGS2. Regardless of what ends up happening, I want a simple (story wise) tactical espionage action game. As much as I enjoyed MGS2 and 4, I much prefer the story and stand alone-ness of MGS1 and MGS3.

You already have your answer.
Raiden is the obvious followup protagonist, as well as potential for playing as The Boss pre-MGS3, or even go into the future with Sunny and Little John.
I'm really hoping that Rising chronicles the time between MGS2 and 4.

There's a gap there sure. Do we really need to know what happens during it? What do we need to know about Raiden? He got emo, turned into a cryborg, and rescued Sonny. MGS4 already told us these things, we do we need to experience it? What else is going to happen during this gap? Do we want this to become another Big Boss type thing were apparently the time during MGS3 and MG1 a lot of shit went down, enough for as many games as Kojima can make with Big Boss? I sure don't. Because we don't need anymore retcons, because as PW and PO have proven, Kojima can keep on ruining things. No it's time to let go. We can't advance the story if we keep setting it during these gaps.Radec said:MGS4 ris the end. Well it has to be. But

That is a perfect fit for Raiden's storyline.
Snake really doesnt need to be in it.
Kagari said:People saying MGS Rising media black out has been worse than FF Versus XIII... at least we got an actual 7 minute gameplay PV for Versus back in January, as opposed to glorified watermelon cutting demos.

For them to have built the engine+assets+everything to release these screenshots by 2008 development had to have been going since early 07 the latest.

Snake Eater 3D is being done inhouse as far as we've been told. It could be secretly outsourced to Tose or something, but as of now it's said to be a full Kojipro title.ShockingAlberto said:MGS HD Collection is outsourced, except for Peace Walker (though looking at it, maybe it should have been outsourced) which is being done by KojiPro. But even if we're not considering Rising, fact is that after MGS4 he has been stucked in the R&D of a modern development platform and shifted to PSP development.
Basically he did a Square Enix.
