Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection (PS2) - U.S. release official

Sorry for the bump, just picked this up and have a few questions.

1) is the new camera in mgs3?
2) how can you beat psycho mantis if playing on PS3?

1. Yes

2. Press the Playstation button and you can assign the controller to a different port.

1) Yes
2) Have you never used your PS3? Hit the PS Button and change the controller port. (This has been asked multiple times. Why do people not know this? Can the 360 not do it? Are these non-PS3 owners?)

Didn't know about that. You cant do it on the 360.

Thanks guys.

Anyone know where I can get the tranquilizer gun in Metal Gear Solid? I'm at the Sniper Wolf stage and I want to do the backtracking again and pick up as many of the weapons/features I missed as possible.

There is no tranq gun in MGS1 unless you're playing TTS.

The PSG-1T? I believe it's in the caves somewhere. The regular PSG-1 is all the way back at the beginning.
I remember crawling through a small crack on the ground to get to it.

There isn't one.

edit: Damnit Bigboss.

Yeah I loved the story
between EVA, Snake(Big Boss), Ocelot and The Boss. It beat all that crazy out there stuff in MGS2 by far to me. The story was especially good with the game taking place at the height of the Cold War,
it almost beats the original story imo.

The Boss was such an outstanding character. Both MGS1 and MGS3 were awesome, but I think The Boss (and some other factors) elevates it to the top position in the series. At least for a couple more months, that is.

Wanted to play back through thall these before MGS4 came out. Played through all of MGS yesterday. Quick question though. Is there any sequence in MGS2 or 3 that absolutely requires rumble? I don't have a DS3 yet and tend not to care about rumble enough to actually go buy one.

This thread inspired me to fire up MGS 3: Subsistence last night and I fucking suck at it now. I am so not used to these controls and I constantly get spotted. I must've died at least a dozen times trying to free Sokolov early on. How do you guys approach this game? Do you avoid the enemy at all costs or do you stealth-kill your way through areas?

I have never played any of the MGS series and I'm playing through this now. So far I beat part one, and dammit the controls for that game where terrible. I felt I was watching more cut scene than actually playing the game. I hope part two is not like One.

MGS is a lot easier to use with the d-pad. 2+3 are easy to use with the analog stick and feature first person mode, which makes controlling it tons easier.

There never was an einhänder bleemcast... Anyway, it doubled the resolution, running at 640x480 + a load of other neats improvements.

There wasn't an officially liscenced einhander bleemcast, but there certainly were ports of einhander and Parappa for DC.

question for the community, I bought the essential collection last month and can't play 2 or 3 until I purchase the Metal Gear PS3 bundle. I just dusted off my original playstation and started up MGS after work. About how many hours playtime on this game? I've got about 45 minutes in and just saved the DARPA chief (took me awhile to get used to the fundamentals).

depends on how fast you play through and if you watch all the cut scenes. 6 - 10 hours with cutscenes.

does this collection also include metal 1 and 2? not solid, but the originals.

No, you'd have to go pick up the standalone copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence if you want those. They're on the second disc of Subsistence which the Essential, unfortunately, doesn't have.

well shit :(

EDIT: looks like I found a used copy of it. Bought it.

people are selling this new for ridiculous prices!

Rumor is that this box set is already out of print - it's out of stock on Amazon and Gamestop. I just picked up a copy off of CD Universe. I've been ripped off twice trying to get MGS2: Substance from the buy/sell/trade thread here, and it'll be nice to finally have a goddamn copy of it.

FW 2.4 needs to hurry up and come out so i can play the collection again. I just want to know if there's going to be trophies in MGS 4. If there is I'll hold off on the collection until I get 100% completion. I don't want to start the series again, only to have to stop.

Why wait until FW 2.4? Don't these work fine on BC PS3s? (I haven't tried yet myself)

So Meyrl's codec isn't on the back of the game case or manual, but it is inside the manual :(

Working my way through these games finally

I'm not waiting because the games don't work. I'm waiting because if mgs 4 has trophies, im gonna go for 100% completion, then start the series over again (3, 1, 2, then 4). If it doesn't have trophies i'll just go through the series again.

I don't want to start the series just to stop in a couple days/weeks/months
hurry the fuck up sony

Im so happy right now. If all goes well, i should have subsistance in a couple of hours. I seriously hope the camera is worth it. For some reason, im actually excited about trying the original metal gears. it must be from reading the database. I hope they still stand up today...

I thought that the original games weren't included in this bundle.

Found a copy at the local Wal-Mart. I sold my copies of MGS and MGS2 a few years back... its good to have them back again. :D

So I know, holy thread necro, but I finally just beat MGS. Should I play MGS3 next, then follow it up with 2, and then buy 4? Or play 2 then 3 then 4?
