Metro: Last Light on Steam includes Metro 2033 e-book

Lock of old

Metro 2033 was a prominent post-apocalyptic novel from Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky before it inspired 4A Games' shooter. Making up for the lost marketing opportunity of the first game, sequel Metro: Last Light will include a free copy of the Metro 2033 novel with all PC purchases authenticated through Steam.

The story of Metro: Last Light was provided by Glukhovsky, who has also created two written sequels to his acclaimed original work. Metro: Last Light is being developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver, who acquired the rights after the collapse of THQ.

That's pretty cool. The Steam store page hasn't been updated to reflect this yet I think. All it mentions is some digital comic along with pre orders.

Cool, I already have it as a hard copy. Really liked the book, it's a shame that the sequel (2034) wasn't as good.

Considering that a) the article says "authenticated with Steam" and b) the game is Steamworks, and so all copies from everywhere requires you to register the game on Steam, this is pretty much every single PC copy of the game getting the novel for free. Pretty cool, then.

There is a sequel too? color me surprised, I gotta check this one out and see for myself. Even if the book sucks the universe intrigues me.

Yeah! It's a swedish translation though, don't know if there's an english translation. If not, you're not missing much IMO. It lacked the atmosphere from the first book.

Wow, learn something new everyday. When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed this was one of those crappy B-grade-writing novels based on a game, like the Halo novels. Never knew that the game was originally based on the novel, ala the Witcher.

Is the English translation decent?

I remember reading that only NA steam copies will come with the digital book, no? Or did they change it?

It seems like it's all regions now since they don't mention any regional exclusivity anywhere in the article.

I'll try to find if there was any.

The translation is fantastic, I highly recommend it if you're into post apocalyptic stories.

I think the thread title needs to be amended to say that all PC copies of the game will receive the e-book via Steam.

How can you not know? I haven't even read the books yet and even I know. Last Light was originally going to be called 2034, although they scrapped that and made a whole new story. Metro 2035 is in development also, and there are tons and tons of Metro short stories.

Those aren't short stories, they are novels in the Metro 2033 universe by other authors. I think 5 of them are already translated into German for example. Don't know abut English.

Incorrect. Most of them are short stories, although a few of them are indeed novels.

Damn, disappointing. Loved the first book, even though
its depressing as hell.
