Not that hard really. You hold the Wii remote sideways, D-pad for movement, 1 for shooting and 2 for jumping. A for Morph ball.Anasui Kishibe said:soon to be released and I still don't understand how the hell is gonna be played
Boney said:Not that hard really. You hold the Wii remote sideways, D-pad for movement, 1 for shooting and 2 for jumping. A for Morph ball.
It plays like a 2-d game but with some added depth (think old-school brawlers) and some cinematic camara angles.
Am I missing something?
Oh yeah 1st person. You point at the screen and it goes to 1st person. You can't move, but you can look around and it's the only way to fire missiles. You can select stuff and Samus will go towards it if you go back to 3rd person.Anasui Kishibe said:yes. How does the first person work? i've read the previews but still couldnt picture it in my mind. You point your mote, but can you do it whenever you want or in certain situations?
I've also seen some sections in third person, so that adds to the wtfness

And the behind the shoulder camara occurs when you're "investigating" if I recall correctly. Like if you're inside a lab room and have to check things out. (could be wrong here)
That's the part we're all skeptical about.. D-pad for a 3d space? The whole stopping to look around and breaking the whole pacing? Are investigation parts absolutely safe and nothing will happen until you find all that you're looking for, kinda like Shattered Memories? Do I have to keep talking like this?beelzebozo said:i "get it" insomuch as i read descriptions of each of the individual parts of the control scheme and understand how they'll function, but to really understand the flow of the game and if the controls work in that regard--seeming natural and like a good choice on the developers' part--i'll really have to play it for myself.
Anasui Kishibe said:uhm, thanks for replying mate. Still sounds confusing, I really hope it works well. I have faith, but ..
Nessus said:The other third person over the shoulder bits just seem like areas that are still controlled by the d-pad but the camera shifts to behind her.
Rindain said:I wonder if Sakamoto thinks that Super Metroid is "too complicated."
I just hope there is enough depth to this game despite the limited number of buttons.
Agent Unknown said:I'm beginning to get the feeling that Super Metroid's legacy is to Sakamoto what Pinkerton eventually became to Rivers Cuomo.![]()
Well in terms of controls Sakamoto defintely thinks that Super Metroid was too complicated, and I guess some of the movements were quite hard to do early on.Rindain said:I wonder if Sakamoto thinks that Super Metroid is "too complicated."

Agent Unknown said:As you said however, it's getting worrisome that he keeps emphasizing how he wants "anyone to be able to play the game."

Rindain said:So I guess Other M is Sakamoto's Green Album, i.e. a calculated attempt to bring in new fans via generic, simplified music/gameplay while taking away the heart of what made his classics so great?
I sure hope not.
Ushojax said:This is worrisome to you? Please never design a game.
But the European release date is September, though a specific date hasn't been announced.richisawesome said:Hm. I'm still undecided about the game. I've got it on pre-order for UK release on the 27th august, but still.
Luckily I work where I preordered it, so we'll get our copies in on the tuesday (24th August). I'll give it a quick play before I buy it.
Rindain said:So it seems Sakamoto doesn't think that being isolated on a strange planet is crucial for a Metroid game...hmm...I don't know about all of you, but that's probably one of the most important factors in how immersive a game like Super Metroid is. Walking into a new area, hearing the music, seeing strange creatures/artifacts...Metroid games make you *become* Samus, because who couldn't relate to that sense of isolation combined with discovery?
However I am interested in his comment that the solitude remains, but it is her own sense of isolation, even amongst groups.
In any case, this will be a interesting experiment, and of course I'll be buying it Day 1. Sakamoto hasn't let us down before.

Just because you're not isolated on a strange planet, doesnt mean that you still wont run into an area over run with odd lifeforms, new themes, etc.
I just hope they nail the music with some awesome remixes, new themes, have a great Ridley fight, and bring back Kraid.
I dont see where the worry is coming from, since there has never been a bad main series Metroid game.

Even though the user states he's playing horribly, I must say he's displayed the best use of the controls/mechanics I've seen yet from this game at E3. Static play is quite an interesting form of strategy, you can see it in this clip, the auto-lock function has quite a bit if depth. I'm feeling a lot more confident now.

I agree. And while I absolutely LOVE the Prime games and think they are some amazing games, I think they should be considered as a sorta spin-off trilogy compared to the other Metroid games. And eventhough Sakamoto helped a little on the Prime games they weren't really his games.DragonGirl said:I don't think it would be exactly fair to compare Other M to Retro's Prime series. Other M sits more in line with the 2-D games and would be best compared to them. If it's better than Fusion then it's good enough.

Agent Unknown said:I disagree. The first Metroid Prime is almost perfect to me and is just as high quality of an entry into the series as Super Metroid in my opinion. I concur Echoes and (especially) Corruption while very good games feel a bit spin-off'ish due to their very different settings and characters but Prime 1 captured SM's legacy and the atmosphere and basic styles of the older games very well.
Zero Mission is pretty straght forward. Did you beat Ridley and Kraid yet?Willy105 said:I am still lost somewhere on Metroid Zero Mission (my first and only Metroid game so far). Don't think I'll ever figure it out.
Gilby said:Have you replayed Echoes? My second time through I enjoyed A LOT more. Most well designed room layout/connection of the whole trilogy. It also had a couple thematic elements that carried throughout the whole game (colour theme, enemies, ect.). Plus the luminoth are awesome.
