1UP said:We had a chance to try our hand at Metroid: Other M a few months ago, and for the most part, we liked what we saw. For this year's E3, Nintendo had a little more of the game to show off; while the demo on the show floor was largely comprised of material we'd already played through, the lengthy introduction portion was supplemented by a quick glimpse of a second sequence that takes Samus into a portion of the game's massive starship environment which has been overrun by various plant life.
There wasn't too much to this area of the demo: Just a few rooms, topped off with a dead end door that couldn't be accessed in the current build of the game. The largest room of the game consists of a huge spiraling ramp encircling a massive tree whose roots spill onto the metal pathways. Much more engrossing, however, is the room immediately before that, where Samus is forced to do battle against a pair of chameleon-like monsters capable of completely cloaking themselves.
Once they activate their invisibility, the chameleons can't be seen or harmed with normal gunfire. By switching into first-person mode, however, Samus can lock onto their signatures and hit them with a missile, disrupting their camo. This also has the effect of sending the creatures into a rage, changing their attack patterns from a few occasional blasts of venom to a far more aggressive head-on approach. Once exposed, the chameleons will rush Samus, forcing her to dash quickly to either side to evade their highly damaging attacks. Fortunately, only the injured chameleon will go berserk, so it's not too difficult to take them down one at a time.
Although the new demo didn't offer much new insight into the play mechanics, the graphics looked markedly improved over the game's last showing. While this could simply be a function of the televisions being used at each respective demo, the latest showing of the game seems to incorporate more a lot more visual flash than before -- more reflections on Samus' armor, and more dramatic highlights as well. It's still unlikely to be mistaken for a game on a high-def system, but between its fast action and Nintendo's promise of an emphasis on exploration and isolation, Other M should be a satisfying play for Wii fans when it arrives at the end of August.

But he acknowledged the exploration aspect, so I'm really happy there. There's no way it's gonna be any more explorable than Metroid Fusion though.
The part where he talks about making games fun and easy for parents and kids sounds more like something he'd say about Wario Ware than Metroid.

He wasn't really involved in those so they aren't part of his series. I find it astonishing enough that the Prime games still influenced his game, I guess that's all due to Team Ninja though, not Sakamoto.mantidor said:Sakamoto really likes to pretend the Prime games didn't exist.

In all fairness, it has been a few years since Prime 3 released. Just sayin'...upandaway said:The more I hear him talk the less I like him.

I'm exactly on the same boat.Metroid Killer said:I guess I'm getting more acceptive towards Other M focusing on story.
On one hand I think it's really nice. When Sakamoto explains how he wants to show what kind of personality there is in a woman who has been fighting all her life, makes me really excited for more story. But on the other hand, the way that there have been minimal story telling, and only(mostly) story telling through gameplay in metroid games is what made them so great.
Oh well it's always nice with a little change, I'm defintely excited about it and have faith that it's gonna deliver.

"Concentrate fire in one area" was what I got from the subtitles. Also something about "Freeze gun".antispin said:What was that "concentration" shit?!

So far I beat Super Metroid last summer, and in the past month I went through Fusion and Zero Mission my roommate had laying around. Currently working on Metroid II. I'm afraid of the original Metroid lol. Debating on going through the Primes. I heard mixed reviews on those.
Regardless, I'm really looking forward to playing this!

I was initially put off by it being in First Person too, but it's amongst the best games ever made so it doesn't matter.TheGreatMightyPoo said:The first Prime is amongst the best videogames ever made unless you are totally put off by it being in First Person.

Walkthrough of the entire demo.
Contains a few story spoilers, I suppose.
