Metroid Prime: Federation Force - 18 mins Gameplay

I watched the video it refers to and still had no idea who Joshua was.

Joshua is irrelevant so it's only fitting for the general consensus to be 'Who?'

He hosted a Nintendo channel and during the 3DS/WiiU era he became extra Whiney and moist. Very negative on Godtendo and his Twitter is full of hate.

He also wears diapers in his spare time and cross dresses' Samus in Latex

It just feels wrong to call this a Metroid Prime game, even Hunters looked better, might be the art direction.
Because NLG doesn't do realistic art styles

Because the game started as a DSi game

Because they don't feel comfortable with Metroid's art style anymore, and are trying to find something new for it to attract more people (My opinion)
They are certainly not attracting more people with this game than they would have with an actual Metroid title.

It looks pretty neat for a 3DS title, the music isn't great and it certainly isn't of the quality of a Prime game but it doesn't come across as an utter misuse of the license either. I would still prefer if Nintendo made more key entries of their established franchises though, rather than all these spin offs and low budget entries that just come across as conservative stocking fillers at this point.

Of course, I guess I just have lower standards for handheld games when they try to emulate console-like experiences.

I have no expectation about the game when it was announced, but this gameplay makes me want to give it a chance. Looks fun enough for a handheld. I believe there will be lots of laughter if I play it with friends.

I understand people are upset about it. Almost everything of this game, from art style to graphics, are much different from how people imagine a Metroid Prime would be. After watching this gameplay, I decide to treat this game as a spinoff to attract new customers, like kids, to enter Metroid universe. This perspective could probably make us feel easier to accept this game.

I actually thought the music was its only redeeming quality.

Came in here for notlikethis.jpg-gaf. So far not fulfilled but I'll keep an eye out on this thread.

Which do people honestly want more though? 3D or 2D Metroid?

This looks like it'd be an okay free to play title. It doesn't feel like a full fledged release.

I say that as someone who enjoyed triforve heroes a lot. This one feels like it's missing something in comparison.

I'm watching the video and i still can't believe they chose to put the Metroid name on that. They really shot themselves in the foot there. Can't say i feel bad for them.

Apart from the Metroid name, it looks bland and generic as sin. It's the kind of game that i wouldn't care for and would normally move on, but because of the name i now also hate it.

Kind of off-topic, but I've been looking for some impressions of the other Nintendo game at WonderCon and came across this Star Fox Zero vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MflMuJhoeg0

Guy seems to be a Star Fox fan who isn't scared of being critical. His impressions were positive. Also, game looks awesome.

If there were more impressions out there I'd make a new topic, but this'll do for now.

Other M will be forgotten as soon as they show us the next Metroid game, the only reason it is discussed so much is because it's all we've had to talk about for the last 6 years. It's the Star Wars prequels of Metroid and this game is our Clone Wars TV show. We just have to grit our teeth and wait for the real Metroid to come back.
I got flashbacks to Simpsons Season 4 / Episode 1 Kamp Krusty (and also the fact the BBC would repeat it constantly):

Maybe I should have made Mr. Black look more like Reggie
As for this game. I don't care either way to be honest; apathy is a must healthier state than antipathy.

If it did not have the Metroid name attached nobody would even bother with this. It looks terrible and we all know it.

I actually thought the music was its only redeeming quality.

I actually liked the music as well at first, It is when the action starts to build up and the ultra low budget 90's Universal movie soundtrack kicks into gear that things really take a turn for the worse imo. The 10:13 mark would be such an example, maybe it might grown on me though, who knows.

Just watched it with my 13 years old son and he liked it. He's excited to play it with his friends like they did with Nintendoland. As a side note, he's quite good at cod, Splatoon and Titanfall. He games on all sort of platforms (wii u, ps3, pc, 3ds & phone) and can deal/adapt to any control method.

You bitters guys could be surprised by how this game will perform.
Still not a Metroid.

Also, why would it matter if your son likes it? Is he some kind of an ultimate judge? Is he even a fan of the older Metroid games?

It's not a Metroid game, that's what matters.

I liked when Nintendo came out at the Direct and said that we were wrong about this game and that we actually do really want to play it. Looks bad and a blatant cash-in like their other recent games. Sucks because the Nintendo charm has always been in all their games I feel like until until this gen where there has been a handful of what I feel is rushed projects.

Is Metroid Prime Pinball a Metroid game?

That must be true, because there clearly are no bad ratings on the latest Youtube trailer anymore.

Is Metroid Prime Pinball a Metroid game?
No but nobody cared for that because it was released alongside with Prime (a great game). It was just a bonus game. This thing is the only thing we get years after OtherM (a shitty Metroid game that left a bad taste in our mouths already).

Don't forget Mario Kart 7!
Mario Kart 7 looks better than Double Dash indeed. The 3DS shouldn't be much less powerful than the Gamecube.

I think SF0 actually looks fantastic. Not really agreeing with most people's hang ups about it.

Uh?

Because it's my son and your're nobody?
Because the game is obviously targeting a younger audience first.
Because his only expectation is having fun with his 3ds friends and not a check list?

The slow ass movement (these jetpacks are laughable), the shooting mechanics, the level design form an era where console FPS were still struggling with the genre, the graphics and the unispiring art direction.

This has mediocre all over it. If you played a good multiplayer FPS in the last years, you'll see this is a bad one.

Sorry but it's just annoying to see arguments boil down to "thing I don't like" but that seems to be the running theme lately. People don't adhere to established definitions and let their emotions take over.

Yeah you basically want a "true" Metroid game, just say that instead. And btw I loved Other M and I'm a self proclaimed true Metroid fan

Erm... really? This looks super boring and slow, couldn't watch more than 4 min. No Metroid feel at all.

EDIT: Even if this wasn't a Metroid game, it still looks super boring and slow.

There really is a Simpson picture for everything hahahahaaha

Looks very slow-paced and unengaging, even for a first level in my book. The co-op seems to work OK though.

I think the game will probably get decent marks from reviews (especially as Next Level as of this point has never produced a mediocre or awful game), but I doubt its gonna be a high-flyer in sales. I still believe the project managers really should had made a point of making the game a different IP instead of tying it to the Metriod IP.

I just explained to you why people don't like this game and why they are "bitter" as you said in your original comment.

Yes, it's called "Metroid". People have expectations about it.

As other stated, no reference at all and mentioning someone by just their first name. I know you guys are into divas and whatnot, but most other professions use a surname. The other part adding to the confusion, is you guys seem to speak in some 'random ass .gif' language.

popgaf diversion aside, the part that really spoke to me about this title:

Metroid Prime: Federation Force |OT| Press X to Skip

It looks fun, but after Triforce Heroes I'm done with these kind of game. Not that I hated that game, it was fun, but I just can't give other people the power of ruining a game.

That doesn't look like it's my kinda game so I'll probably be skipping.

That said, the reaction here is embarrassing. I'm a Metroid fan too (I literally have every game with the exception of Metroid Prime Pinball) but the whole "This isn't Metroid!" bullshit is laughable. You can not like the game, you can say it doesn't play/look/sound like traditional Metroid but none of that changes the fact that this is going to be a part of the franchise and therefore a Metriod game. Like it or not, it's part of the franchise now and you'll just have to deal with it.

I don't like Devil May Cry 2, Deus Ex 2, the Syndicate FPS (the most recent one) or Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood in almost any way, shape or form but I have to deal with the fact that they are most definitely part of their franchises.

Goddamn, get a grip people.

Another video from wondercon showed that the score is used for objective rewards as well (get higher than x to get solver, higher than y to get gold, etc.). I'm a sucker for a good score attack.

I do feel it's rather unfortunate how of this is turning out.

Like, I don't think the idea of a spinoff title involving Galactic Federation troopers is a bad idea. I mean, Star Wars did a very similar idea with Republic Commando, a game that starred clone troopers instead of the usual Jedi, and people liked that game fine.

The thing is, I think it just needed to be on the Wii U instead of 3DS, it needed to not have such a silly looking art style, and most importantly, it needed to be released during a time where proper mainline Metroid games were actually being developed.

It's very saddening because I know how talented Next Level Games are, they brought us the Mario Strikers games, Punch-Out!! on Wii and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, all really good games with a lot of personality and character.

As smart as this post is, there's no point trying to reason with Metroid fans. To them there still hasn't been a Metroid game since 2007 and there's an evil plot by Nintendo to kill the franchise and force devs to make games they don't want to make, like the time Retro was forced to cancel Metroid Dread to make FUCKING DONKEY KONG. What a shit game that was.

I take it some questions remain still unanwsered, right?

I remember Triforce heroes being region-locked,

local multiplayer between PAL/EU 3DS and a NTSC 3DS, each with their respectives Zelda TH cards in their 3DSs was not possible.

I asume this is going to be as restrictive as that,
It's probable, but we don't know for sure.

I'm hoping the backlash would help encourage them to remove basic things like that at least.

Nope. I'm a huge Metorid fan. I thought Other M was fine. I don't believe Retro was forced to do anything. Tropical Freeze is one of the best games I've ever played.

Federation Force looks bad and I'm disappointed. I know, how embarrassing. I'm so entitled.

Wait wait wait. Are we talking local multiplayer. So if two friends from the States and Switzerland met up and tried to play multiplayer not through wifi they couldn't? Mind blown.
