MGS V: Ground Zeroes Console Quality Comparison Video

as far as this screencap goes, the 'night' scene xo version looks remarkably better than the 360 version, but i meant i want to see a video treatment of it, like the ps3/ps4 version got.

Doesn't this confirm what we're saying, that Kojima is doing more with the PS4 version while the XBO is more in line with the PS3/Xb360.

I think it does. PS4 received real next gen enhancements from the looks of it, whereas Xbox One version is more along the lines of the current gen releases, and it actually shows in the video footage. Don't know how else to say it, but when a system as old as the 360 seems to rival the xbox one, something is wrong.

one system is stronger than the other; games reflect that. what's so confusing? it'll be a long gen for those who can't reconcile this simple fact.

The game barely looks a step above current gen. There's hardly anything extra going on. You could even say ps4 should be able to run the game at 4k based on the leap since it seems to be pushing the same geometry across all versions. If the engine was on PC first then that's even more reason for the xbone to keep pace as both new machines may as well be modded laptops.

This thread is sooo good. Always nice to add some salt to my flavourless day.

So many xbone fans panicking...

Respect to Kojima for not gimping the better hardware.

What generational leaps are some of you expecting? It seems like some people expect to go from N64 -> PS3 in terms of quality. We already are reaching CGI fidelity in graphics, and while there is room for improvement in so many areas of games, there will never be as big of a leap as was possible before. Now there is room to improve IQ, frame rate, and effects in games, but set your expectations.

And with that said, there are differences in the video, and the PS4 version definitely looks and runs better than the other three versions. Deal with it.

Jesus fuck.

The video is glorious! The PS3/PS4 differences were discernible in screenshots. They are HUGE in motion!

My reactions throughout the video, before and after each swipe were "hmmm. whoa!!!! hmmm. eh?" in that order

Maybe Kojima gave the PS4 "special treatment" because he saw it was the only console that can realize his next gen vision(1080p, 60fps, near photorealistic graphics)?

Holy shit. Sidelining.

Have you played it? How was it, was it fun? Did you invest hours of your life in it?
Just pointing out how silly some posts are, calling out Kojima's team when the biggest xBone game looks just as dodgy (as a cross gen title).

See?

yeah, funny, haha, but... i still don't see a big difference.

Then get off your 1080p display and get to an optometrist. The PS4 version is likely pushing three times the resolution and double the framerate of the PS3 version and you can barely see the difference? Which video are you watching exactly? :P

as someone who has both consoles and doesn't have a dog in this fight to protect, i don't see anyone in here panicking. the game still looks good.

What if the demo we saw was actually running on a PS4? :O That would've been awesome.

Honestly after this? I wouldn't be suprised.

Though its more likely it was running on a PC they probably didn't even have a dev kit for E3 to run it on.

Its sure as hell not going to look like it did in that video on the X1...

This honestly isn't a troll question: why did snake running on Xbone look smoother to me than it did on PS4? Like, the motions, not the resolution

is it like some optical illusion because of the lower resolution?

To me it seemed slower than the PS4 version, but slightly faster/smoother than the PS360 versions.

TitanFall might be fun to play, but that doesn't diminish the fact that the graphics in that game aren't all that good and even those graphics make the Xbox One drop the FPS in some situations quite noticeably.

not sure why i've seen people saying the xbo is clearly an upressed 360 version, it's pretty obvious that the xbo has the same geometry upgrades the ps4 version got, it's just that the xbo version is lacking the higher resolution, better lighting model (dat sky), and what looks like the better anti aliasing of the ps4 version

I think you're just seeing the effects of watching a fairly low res video streaming online. It all gets a bit muddy.

The PS4 version is so far ahead it isn't even funny. Welp.
Pumped to pick this up! I love me some Metal Gear.

maybe the xbone version cant handle the dynamic sky whilst maintaining 60fps (and possibly 720p too lol)
*shrugs* not trying to be condescending in any way towards XB1 owners. I'm just throwing possibilities out there. We know the XB1 has trouble with 1080p/60fps with graphically intensive games without turning down some options(AA, DoF, etc). The PS4, on the other hand, seems more than capable of being up to the task.

Apparently

Sub-720p > full 1080p (PS4) 720p (XBO)
Improved atmospheric/sky rendering (PS4)
30fps > 60fps
Increased draw distance/extra scenery props
Increased texture resolution and anisotropic filtering
Added high frequency detail textures
Added motion blur (possibly DoF too)
Improved lighting
Improved shadow res/smoothing

Isn't a worthy generational upgrade in an open-world game from a Japanese developer.

Not according to this video, it isn't. State of the Xbox One version with respect to the 360 version is downright embarrassing. My final statement on the subject.

Oh come on now. The xbox one still runs at twice the framerate and slightly better textures. Do you have to take one extreme position or the other? :D

i doubt it. i'm sure digital foundry will jump right to it once they get both versions in the lab. they're predictable, if not dependable, like that.

Sorry, it was a reference to you also saying "we will just have to wait and see" in the PS4 sells 5.3 million thread.

I don't see a big visual dif in tomb raider, personally, but I definitely see it in this game. And now you find out through Kojima that the sky in the PS4 version received treatment that no other version of the game has. Don't think it's debatable where the biggest differences are.

From the screenshots, yes this game shows the bigger difference. But in motion, the difference in TR is bigger. Read my post again. TR for xbone : worse textures at half the framerate. GZ for xbone : worse sky at half the resolution. And as far as the differences go, framerate > resolution when you're actually playing the game, not staring at screenshots. If the resolution was more important, Kojima would've gone 1080p/30fps for xbone like Tomb Raider.

Considering the PS4 has nearly twice the performance power of the Xbone, I'm surprised the Xbone version is even running at 60fps with the real-time lighting solution in an open world environment.

For a massively open world game it is quite the looker too.

oh that. that was just in reference to me not being the kind of guy to crown a console winner after just three months. call me an optimist, but i usually like waiting a year before forming an opinion on such matters.

That's The Phantom Pain though, a different game. It's worth noting too that the platforms are not confirmed for TPP. I think TPP will look better still by the time it's released. I can see them going PS4/XB1 only.

But yeah, it's a glorious game.
