the game looks pretty damn awesome in motion plus it got awesome effects like motion blur, next gen smoke, cool snow particle effects etc...

it just looks better

exactly. In motion Final Fantasy XIII just looks wayy better than MGS4. Lost Planet is also comparable because it does the same things as MGS4...lots of interactivity with the environments, destructible environments etc.

Until there is a game behind MGS4 it doesn't look better than Lost Planet and it sure isn't in the same league as Gears of War, Huxley, Mass Effect, Quake Wars, Splinter Cell, Rainbow 6, because those are titles that look easily as good and are actual games.

I'm convinced that it's that freaking filter that makes MGS4 way better than those other game(excepting Lair if it's realtime). Take off the washed out colored filter and it might just look a *little* better but with nicer animation.

Come on, let's not forget that the MGS3 cut-scene models were no where near the in game models in poly count and details.

I don't understand how anyone can buy into the Sony hype before seeing some unscripted full game footage with AI and gameplay elements intact.

Give credit where credit is due; everything on X360 is much more palpable than PS3's hype at the moment.

And that'd be missing the point of the series. It looks good because of the entire package. They don't just sit and focus on 1 or 2 areas of a games visuals. The color filter is part of the series artstyle.

:lol :lol

the best thing mgs4 is the destructible environments, I don't think it has a filter at this point... too bad the frame rate was messed up

wait, what?

it's all the same, dude. theres even some slow down in the cut scenes :lol

MGs 4 uses shaders.

YEah, nice CG. And Mgs4 looks pretty great asthetically...but the environments were kinda blah, framerate was all over the place, Texture work was pretty uneven, what allways shines is animation. I would say it's the best looking game on the PS3 right now anyway.

Edited: No need to mention games from other systems.

If MGS4 was coming out in four months the framerate problems would be an issue. But it's not due for over a year.

even then, they wouldnt be that big of an issue.

MGS3's e3/OPM demo had really bad slowdown in some areas, and by the time the final game came out, they were almost 100% gone in those areas.

this thread was never about other systems, tho. i dont know why this is trailing off. it says it right in the subject.

also - i'd just like to mention: watch snake's face as he's placing the gun in his mouth. nay - as he's contemplating putting the gun in his mouth...the muhfucka is emoting, it's crazy.

It's true that X360 stuff is much more palpable at the moment as the SYSTEM IS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE. The thing is, I'm not terribly impressed with what it has done so far. Many of PS3's actual realtime demos/games looked more impressive, detailed, and polished than what I've seen on 360 (and was shown at E3). Whether it all pans out in the end, I don't know, but I'm holding onto that hope simply because what they have shown is what I'd like to see.

I trust many of those PS3 developers, though. What Kojima, Naughty Dog, and the like show will likely be entirely accurate. They have NEVER faked a trailer in the past and I don't believe they'd start now. Stuff like 8 Days I have no faith in as those fellows HAVE faked us out...but many of the developers did not. MGS2 and 3 looked just as good as their original trailers (actually, better). Kojima is aiming for 60 fps gameplay in MGS4 as well, and I think they'll reach it...

Konami, Squaresoft, Capcom have always been ahead of the graphics curve . Also Factor 5 of course.

I think Heavenly Sword is closer to what we should expect from typical PS3 developers.

Hey, folks, how about I bring out my dormant E3-fueled aggression? It'll be fun. Just avoid the disintegration rays coming out of my eyes.

Or maybe this thread can be salvaged. We'll see.

Lost Planet has nice graphics but it's boring to look at. Oblivion had a much better wow effect imho.
Also, this thread should be locked. If the PS3 lineup is lackin quality than the gameindustry is doomed basically. I don't see other formats which so much good stuff lined up.

I don't think it's 'typical' if it's being funded from Sony, SOE withstanding.

I wish I could see what this amazing thing is that puts it above the other top tier ps3 stuff in your mind. Obviously the animation and scripting are really well done but besides that there is nothing too impressive IMO.

Heh you've gotta wonder if Kojima's mind on Raiden being playable is going to change before the games release. Within a day of that trailer being released he's went from most wanting not to play as him to almost everyone wanting him to be playable at some point in the game.

Oh I'm not saying the filter is a bad thing by any means, it's awesome. I just think that's a big reason why it looks so good. The artstyle is awesome. Kind of like how GT3 and 4 look kinda filtered.

:lol You probably start out as Raiden, then after the first mission you switch to Snake.

What about the character models, there is more detail in Snake's hair than there is in a lot of so-called nextgen character models.

it also uses polygons.

Round polygons.

I can't believe Lost Planet is being compared to MGS4.

That's like someone analyzing literary style in Da Vinci Code and saying its roughly equivalent to the Scarlet Letter.

Everybody wants to play as Gray Fox. In my eyes, Kojima went the easy route with Raiden, he disappointed me BIG time :(

If we're talking about target vs. reached visuals, I think Lost Planet is up there (and might surpass) the original Devil May Cry 4 (not the Hunchback one) video at E3 2005.

Art direction goes a long way and counts for a lot.

Unlike most 360 Sci-Fi FPS games where everyone looks the same and generic to the point that you can't tell them apart.

MGS4's character designs stand out alot. They are realistic and in the same time unique,, look all the faces of the MGS4 cast in the trailer,, every character is distinguishbly different and realistic in the same time and it works well

then look at Tom CLancy games,, were every bady and goody look a like and you don't give a crap who you are talking too because everyone is the same

A big problem is the lack of a full HD trailer video for MGS4...instead we get fuzzy 480 x 270 trash. There's a whole lot of effective detail absent in that encode . I suppose that's why you're getting people going "the animation is good, but..."

This is going to blow your mind, but at present there's one sci-fi first person shooter on the 360, and that's Quake 4. As for planned games, Halo 3 is the only other one that comes to mind. Mass Effect, Too Human, Huxley, Gears of War, etc. are not first person shooters at all.

Metal Gear Own3d. :lol I really like these new metal gears and their tactics. Climbing walls, hiding in clever spots, chasing people inside houses, plowing through arabs! and so on... These new metal gears are fucking aweome!

Wow, I thought I was only one who noticed that. The thing with MGS is they model their charactersd after real actors/people so they have distinguishing features.

Otacon - GUy from Full Metal Jacket
Noaimi- MOnica Belluci
Ocelot - looks like someone Im sure

And no, Lost planet doesn't look better than MGS4. The most bizarre insult is "At least Lost Planet is a game!". What the fuck? MGS4 is extremely early in production. It was never supposed to be shown at TGS. This was it's premiere. It's a year behind, give it time. Nobody was playing Gears of War either at this time in it's production. They're still working on the gameplay system, the game is looking amazing, and Kojima says he's not happy with the visuals yet. Give the team time to set that in stone, do what he wants with the graphics, fix the slowdown and then let's judge.

Just imagine if we all judged Gears of War during it's very first clips. They had some massive slowdown going on. They fixed it though, added some damn good animation to the game, and it's looking great.

If you honestly can't find anything good to look at in the MGS4 trailer, then fine, but don't start giving these lame comments on it not being a game yet. Of course it's not, it's in development. Everything about it sounds incredible though, and I'm willing to give Kojima the benefit of the doubt that it will be awesome in-game like the rest of the series.
