yes but this limited edition crap is just fucking perverse. I see now that Konami is just trying put it up a few asses so that the can recoup all of the money they put into this thing.

you won't ever see Nintendo, MS, or Hell even Sony charging almost one grand just to play one of their games on a limited edition system.

And for the people spending money on this like it's nothing....why?? couldn't that money be put to better use? heck I like videogmaes and all too but I dunno, I guess my financial priorities are different.

same reason why someone pays $5 for horse armor, or $20 to get cheatcodes for EA games. As long as there are ppl willing to do it, companies will continue to do it.

Officially, we don't know when the DS3 will hit EU (summer 2008, Reeves said) but wouldn't be surprised if this date is true!
Already import mine anyway, for less than 50€ :D
 
Why the shit-fit over the price? It's a collector's item. When have you NOT overpaid for something like that? Sure, less HD capacity, nixed BC.... But people are paying for the MGS branding. Let it be. Hell, most people ordering may already have a PS3 and just want the limited gun-metal grey (?) edition of it for decoration or for ebay. Quit crying because you can't afford it.

You know, it's bad to assume someone is complaining about price b/c they can't afford it. Sure it may seem like the most obvious reason but you should never assume that. Let's just say I could afford it, and I'm not out of work or poor.

Price of this bundle: $599
Regular PS3 40GB and MGS4LE: $484.99

This pack is overpriced, but not so egregiously as you're insinuating by including shipping and then much exaggerating even that price to "almost one grand". Look at the costs above, and you'll see that the gunmetal console (and its box, I guess) raise the price $115. Compared to a Halo Edition 360, which is only $50 more than a regular 360, that's not all that much of a difference. Most of your sticker shock is actually coming from the fact that PS3 is already $50 more than 360, so having the "limited edition tax" also be higher results in an apparently very large gap.
 
Having a special edition MGS4 bundle is a luxury. People pay more money for nicer things with little to no added functionality every day and they will continue to do so. You are not getting ripped off having to pay $600 for the limited edition bundle because there is another cheaper bundle for those who just want to own the system and play the game.

I am still debating which one to keep. Honestly, the Japanese version has better packaging. However, keeping the Japanese version would mean I have to buy MGS4 again and may have some consequences in playing certain games in the future. Also depending if the soundtrack is just a sampler or full with the NA bundle I may have to buy the soundtrack seperately as well. An alternative is to switch my shipping address to Canada once Konami has figured out this Canadian shipping ordeal.

But there isn't a bundle for those of us who (a) want a system capable of BC and (b) want the LE version of the game. I don't think it is too much to ask the PS3 in the SE bundle be BC. I was expecting to pay $600 or more; I wasn't expecting a certifiably worse system in the more expensive bundle tailored for the hardcore.
 
In regards to the $500 "accidental" insurance charge:

Well I was considering buying it until I saw the price. Then some joe has to assume I must not be buying it because I am so poor and have no money. I was simply proving a point, and honestly I'd rather people NOT know what I have in my accounts.

You could just buy the standard 80gb bundle and the the limited edition version of the game and sell the regular version on ebay or amazon. There probably just aren't any of the current 80gb in production anymore and it would have been costly for Sony to scramble up a bunch of old systems to put a new shell on.

well you said your financial priorities prevent you from buying this. that indicates that you do not have the finances to purchase this. theres a difference between being poor and not being able to afford a 600$ luxury. and as you can see if you read the thread, there are plenty of people complaining. so bravo on not adding anything new to the thread.

Financial priorities preventing someone from buying something (whether it range from a Car, Trip to the Islands or a Game System) does NOT indicate that they do not posses the financial means to do so. In fact people demonstrate this everyday, and it's called living in eternal debt.

What it does mean, is that they would rather do something else with that kind of money than spending it on something that is of lower priorities. I don't know how old you are, or where you are in life, but when you get older you will realize that you will have to make dozens of financial decisions every day, week, month, based on what is in your overall best interest.

I could easily eat lobster twice a week if I wanted to, but I don't. In no way does that indicate I don't have the financial means to do so.

We may be misunderstanding each here, but you just seem to contradict yourself. Just because someone is able to afford something, does not mean that they have the financial means to do so in my opinion. You say that it isn't in your best interest. This says that there are more important things to pay for like bills and such. This means you dont have the financial means to buy it. That's how I see it, doesn't mean you're poor. Big difference.

and the bundle is readily available on the site right now. im considering buying a second one to sell, but....afraid it might not sell on ebay. dont want to be burned.

my CC thought it was a fraud charge, i had to approve it. :lol makes me wonder if they charge you right away. i'll know later.

I think I was the first one to ever order one. They will always open up for pre-orders at 1:00 PM, Pacific Time. I ordered mine when it was 12:59 PM. At 12:58 PM the slots weren't even open. :lol
