You right about the fire. Game looks phenomenal though. Easy to ignore.andycapps said:Agreed, but I haven't noticed any tearing in this whatsoever. Slight bit more aliasing on some things like telephone lines, etc. That being said, there have been numerous times when I said wow. The water "puffs" when I shot in the water in one particular scene were very nice. Nice smoke as well. The fire is the one weak aspect I've seen.
You been past act 1 yet? It only gets better.FTWer said:I wonder what happend to all that technical prowess Kojima had when he made MGS2. That is still a remarkable achievement even to this day.
Spot on. I have seen a few of these already as well.ItAintEasyBeinCheesy said:So this thread is

Okie Dokie.
Eh, I think you'd be pleased enough with the final results. The colors do not feel desaturated. Do you recall that shot in the woods recently that almost appeared monochrome? That area within the actual game looks NOTHING like that. I was actually surprised at the deep contrast between light and shadow. It has a very deep blue hue with dark shadows that eventually gives way to brilliant daylight and a very nice orange. Those pics were very misleading in that regard.andrewfee said:You know what? I might just skip MGS4 now. So much for everyone saying that MGO was running on a different engine from MGS4 and that it was going to be proper 720p.
Desaturated graphics, (seriously, where did all the colour go?) 1024x768 with forced upscaling, an inconsistent framerate, and temporal AA? What a mess.
With all the time and money they've put into the game, I'm amazed it's so poor technically.

Play the game and then try whining. Breathtaking the farther in you get.Leonsito said:How the hell it's going to be 1024x768 ? Really ?
AgentOtaku said:MGS3 was at 30fps with constant dips, especially during Cutscenes....that game is more of a technical acheivement to me than MGS2
...not to mention MGS2 was getting it's touted 60fps due to fact the majority of the time the camera is on top of the player, hence not rendering a hole lot

i agree. the game is still awesome, and it does blow a lot of other shit out the water...but when compared to the series itself, it falls short technically. That's a fact...but that fact doesn't take away from the awesome gameplay, but it is a let down. this game should run circles around the rest of the series on a technical stand, and there shouldn't be one damn thing that the previous entries did better, but that's not the case. to be honest, my main gripe is with the framerate and the color, i could care less about the resolution.andrewfee said:You know what? It works in the same way that 42" plasmas were often 1024x768 (despite the widescreen aspect ratio). Vertical resolution is more important than horizontal so the 768 prevents things from turning into a pixelated mess. It's much cleaner than most other upscaled titles I've played.Leonsito said:I'm not saying anything bad about the game, it looks impressive and I'm sure I didn't see the best parts, but I don't understand how the game is rendered in 4:3
TONX said:You are laughable. I've been playing this game all day and im constantly wowed by it. If you are seriously going to let the pixel count get to you then you need to stop gaming.

It's a real shame that the PS3 can't just output 1024x768 you'd be able to get a 1:1 mapped image on 42ʺ Plasmas, and it would look a lot better for people playing on CRT monitors. (which is pretty much just me, I think :lol)dark10x said:It works in the same way that 42" plasmas were often 1024x768 (despite the widescreen aspect ratio). Which is why it's so ridiculous. Even 720p isn't that high a resolution and yet they're struggling to have a consistent framerate at 1024x768. That's the resolution I was playing PC games at back in 1998AgentOtaku said:...funny fact, 1024x768 is the resolution I gamed with on PC for years and years! :lol![]()
Xater said:Hey isn't that the same resolution Haze is running in? MGS4 looks so much more amazing so I don't care but Free Radical should really be ashamed of theselves. :lol
They're using a very smart temporal AA implementation. (they disable TAA in high motion cases where there would be artifacting -- and in these high motion cases you don't notice aliasing much anyway)andrewfee said:Temporal AA is horrible though that's the same thing DMC4 did and it ended up looking like I was playing the game on a crap LCD as a result.
:lol Oh my....Insane Metal said:Jesus Christ, the console can´t handle 720p for a game like that at 30 fps at least? WTF...
So true! It's awesome looking!Kagari said:MGS4 looks fucking amazing on my 1080p set.
I watched it for a couple hours earlier @ my friends house.... and while I thought it was kinda boring it was definitely a good looking game, not as good as the best but it's probably in the top 10. The only games off the top of my head I would put ahead of it was Crysis, Uncharted, Mass Effect, and from early footage Gears 2/KZ2/Alan Wake.AkuMifune said:.
Sometimes it's hard to tell who has played a game and who hasn't. Not with MGS4.
It's pretty easy to spot those just trying to downplay it's greatness.

It's like the game was out of focus. Looked awful.
Well, the game IS softer than many, but I think it works well with the visual design of the game.2real4tv said:Looks clear on my HD, you don't know what your missing:lol
