That’s would be a really bad sign for E3. A lot of people are wondering if it’s really a good show and Sony skipping 2 times in a row would be quite bad.
It barely matters at this point.

The only one who even has a decent E3 is Nintendo, for the last several years. I literally just watch the Direct and Treehouse live for 3 days.

Sony and MS have a 45 minute event and that's it. They can do something else.

The only way I see Sony not going to E3 this year is if they have a much bigger blowout for PS5 and show at least 5 PS5 exclusives coming in the near future

But I think they'll be there

This would be horrible for so many reasons.

1. I always take 10 days off from work for E3 and just focus on all the showcases and games that get announced and revealed. Sony skipping E3 again would be such a major disappointment for me personally. I would definitely go into the event itself much less hyped and interested than I normally would be especially since PS5 launches at year's end.

2. Sony skipped E3 2019 to not only save money but also because they had no new games to showcase which if they skip again, tells me they have nothing major for PS5 launch or shortly thereafter and would better explain why Godfall is a PS5 exclusive despite it being originally slated for PS4 in 2019.

3. Sony skipping E3 2020 would also mean less marketing deals because why would a publisher want Sony to market a game when they're skipping the top tier shows and thus, wouldn't have their game in the showcase for E3. I look at Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order for example. SWBF 1 and 2 were with Sony marketing but yet, Jedi wasn't despite the fact that it's single player and a better fit for Sony than SWBF 1 and 2 were plus it's the far better game. Sony not being at E3 2019 in my opinion is why they lost out on this marketing deal.

4. This also tells me that their console is underpowered (which to be fair, im expecting it to be anyway) and be $400 at launch and don't want an entire show to be focused on that aspect which it would be since Microsoft's Xbox Series X will be all about power the day before.

5. Lastly, skipping E3 2020 will make my decision to go with Xbox Series X day one easier while waiting for PS5 to give me exclusives that I actually want to play. Godfall is on my list but it's rumored to be a timed exclusive which if true, I can easily wait a year to play it on Xbox Series X. Last gen, Microsoft made the decision for me to go with PlayStation 4 as my primary gaming console for the entire generation and looks like Sony is going to do the same thing this generation for me.

On two related notes, while yes, im super hyped for all the sequels to all the PS4 exclusives that I loved, im not expecting any of them until 2022 to be perfectly honest. I simply don't see them being ready before then which is why I believe that Sony will go all out in regards to signing third party timed exclusives which I hate but it will be what it will be.

The second note would be since I am expecting a $400 PS5 at launch, a mid-gen upgrade three years later is pretty much a guarantee. When looking at the PS4 exclusives I would have missed out on in the three years between PS4 and PS4 Pro, they were as follows - Knack, The Order: 1886, Until Dawn, Ratchet & Clank, Alienation, Uncharted 4 and Shadow of the Beast. For me personally, if I would have waited, I can safely say that Knack (and in turn, Knack 2 in 2017), Until Dawn and Shadow of the Beast would have been completely eliminated from my gaming list which in turn means that I would have had only a four game backlog three years into the generation and not miss out on much, if anything especially since none of the four would have gone past an 8.5/10 for me so no biggie.

With all of that said, im truly hoping that Sony doesn't skip E3 2020 and that if they truly have no top tier major AAA exclusive for launch, I hope they delay Ghost of Tsushima and make it a cross-gen launch title because I would much rather kick off PS5 with Ghost of Tsushima as opposed to ending PS4 with it.

On the positive side, Sony announced in late 2018 that they were skipping E3 2019 so I would imagine that if they were going to skip E3 2020, they would have officially announced it already.

I dont blame them. Expensive and you have to compete with news from microsoft and Nintendo. If they do there own event they get all the headlines. If I were xbox I'd still go e3 and just announce price after Sony does. Let the games sell themselves before you hit people with price. I also bet if Sony has an event next month they dont talk power very much with them being behind

I hope it's not true. But, once again, the press keeps reporting what this guy says..

If he's wrong this time, can we please stop?

It would be bad for Sony too.

They gained a status over the years but they can't live off of it forever, at some point people will start to see this as elitism, and start to be annoyed by it, as it happened on the PS3 gen.

They skipped last year cause frankly Sony didn't have many announcements to make in 2019, all their state of play have also been lackluster.

To me they are absolutely going to have a show this year.

100% Sony will attend E3 2020 ..

This year they have a new console to reveal to the whole world through a popular stage as E3 stands for
so they need a big stage + a big audience not just PS fans but every player in that spot a big one
and you are going to release it on holiday so yes no way Sony skipping E3 this year , i mean E3 needs Sony
i never have an interest in E3 i only watch it mainly for Sony Conference , yes great companies there with great games but Sony is E3 and skipping it will be a damn sad

I do feel E3 has much more to loose than Sony. But yes, Sony has a really empty year in 2020.

If they don’t do any announcement or face issue with the PS5, they’re going to have trouble.

I was told Sony was done since they did not attend E3 last year......Since they are missing this year as well, I guess the death knell rings twice.....I mean you don't want the death bell to ring twice, it's the proverbial "beating the dead horse".....Sony is already dead since last E3....

Oh yeah that's for sure, E3 could get outshadowed by Gamescom eventually, but i don't think Sony will gain anything from destroying a gaming event.

Personally I'd still keep a show floow booth even if i don't have a conference

I'd skip E3 too, what a colossal waste of money that event has become. There are so many better way to get your message out there today. Nintendo figured it out awhile back, didn't they?

Unless you're one of the handful of people who get to go to E3 what is the difference between watching a Sony press conference from E3 and a Sony press conference? Nothing as far as I can tell.

Not the first time Sony skipped E3. And considering how weird that 2018 show was with the banquet halls and white guy pretending to be a japanese guy, you can basically say Sony skipped that show too, as they showed 4 presentations of the same 4 games people already knew about.

Looks like MS will dominate again.

Lol @E3 being irrelevant because Sony pretends so. No, its very relevant, and from May to July this year it will be #1 topic by far, as any normal -but specially pre next gen- year.

Ya.

When Sony was plugging all their Sony games, indie montages and Shawn Layden was plugging PS Vue and Powers TV show, E3 was the be all and end all.

Now E3 is suddenly a non-event?

I mean as long as they have their own a event like Apple does every year I guess that would be alright. But E3 is more awesome when everyone is there and they'll have more eyes on their products if everyone is there rather than one or two companies. Its in all the big 3 interests if everyone attends plus they have something to show and won't catch any heat for having nothing like they would if they showed up last year.

I wonder what the PS5 launch games are going to be.

PS4 had Knack and KZ.
Will probably have a couple of good titles but historically first 2 years have been trash on all ps consoles if your expecting lots of exclusives.....may be even longer considering Sony’s e3 shows are sometimes showing games 2 to 3 years off physical release.

The problem isn't that they're missing E3, they can do that AS LONG as they have a similar event to announce stuff. That's key. Nobody expected them to announce anything last year, but they're LAUNCHING A CONSOLE this year. Not having at least one major conference would be downright negligent.

There it is, I'm calling bullshit on this Pachter report. There's no way they'll do that without having a separate conference to hype.

All before they release the PlayStation 5 later this year. We've really become spoiled by Sony if this is a nothing year.
Some of those games will release on the PC (don't ask) which will dilute their exclusivity.

This would be further proof to me (if they skip E3) that their paradigm has shifted.

Mmmm, about the only one I see doing that is Dreams, for obvious reasons. FF7 and Nioh 2 are kinda no-brainers.

Very strong doubt TLOU 2 and GoT.

E3 being open to the public has been a shit decision. It will end up being just another public convention like PAX. It's not a tradeshow anymore (hasn't been for a long-ass time now).

Nah. I remember he had a show hosted on Gametrailers back in the day, he was also a guest of many of their shows. He was quite often wrong with his predictions, so I don't really have confidence that he's right now.
