Microsoft confirms no PC Alan Wake: Reasoning? "LOL, COMFY COUCH".

ghst

thanks for the laugh
"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience "Alan Wake" was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform." said a Microsoft spokesperson.

nothing says "large tv screen" like 720p.

You are going to get people defending comfy couch...

I would buy Alan Wake on the 360 because that's what I've got to play it on, but comfy couch always gets on my nerves.

PCs cannot be hooked up to TVs. All HDMI ports are being removed from video cards from here on out. Also, history has been changed so the wireless 360 controller PC adapter was never manufactured.

They didn't really need an excuse, they're publishing the game, they decide (and I think they're better off just ignoring the topic than saying stuff like this :lol )

Oh well, saves me some money I guess.

I have no words. I'm building a new computer and I want some new games to play it on but I guess now I have to sit on my shitty futon to enjoy this game.

If you were expecting a pc port in the first place you were in the wrong, when did MS last port one of their big hitters over to pc? gears 1?

I don't get the logic behind dropping a platform this late in development, especially when the game was already shown off more than once on said platform and the game's been over 5 years in the making.

Does that mean I'll get a PC copy if I prove I'd be playing this on my Plasma, like all the other PC games I own?

motherfuckers

*LOL 360 has no good exclusives.

*Alan Wake will not be made for PC

*Well there goes any chance of me buying the game.

Did I do it right?

:lol :lol :lol :lol Some parts of this business is so damn full of themself! Like they care where the fuck I place my ass, all they care about is where I stick my cash!

What a silly way to admit it wont sell enough to be worth it...

oh well, I've been neglecting my xbox lately anyways.

A lot of MS' heavy hitters have PC versions. Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell Conviction....

Im really disappointed with this decision, Ive been excited to play Alan Wake for a long time now and was looking forward to playing it on my new PC and really getting sucked in but I guess Ill have to settle for it on the 360. I have a pretty nice TV set up but I never get as sucked into games like I do on my computer so I always prefer PC versions of games, I guess cause I grew on PC gaming and was big on consoles till the N64.

They lie. Just for once, I'd like to see a company have the balls to just admit that they don't want PC releases cutting into console sales (whether legitimately or via piracy), or producing negative comparisons to console graphics. I mean, if that's the real reason just admit it, instead of paying a P.R. hack to make up conciliatory lies.

...it was announced as a PC game.

This isn't "No, we probably won't be porting this to the PC," it's "YEAH THERE WAS A PC VERSION BUT FUCK YOU IT'S GONE NOW."

"We need SOMETHING to put on a list besides Halo products"

Seriously, MS needs a first party of some sort, I would've done this too, and I would've also trolled about it.

since console gamers get shitted on relentlessly on GAF by the Master Race i shouldn't really give a fuck one way or the other. honestly, my first reaction was to chuckle a bit. but as a gamer i can't help but to say that this is bullshit.

I was more sad that MS has abandoned PC development altogether. Some of my favorite gaming experiences were thanks for AOE2. Usually I'd say it's a stupid idea for a publisher to not put something out on the PC due to higher profit margins but in this case, it doesn't matter since MS is the platform holder.

It's a bullshit excuse for a valid course of action on their part.

Wait a fucking minute!

Wasn't this the game boasting about the ability of quad core processors?:lol

Yep, and it was said that the game requires DX10 so it was gonna be a Vista-only game. It seems not anymore.

That's pretty diabolical coming from someone that's suppose to represent a company that developed an entire separate OS SKU based around using your PC in the living room.

I take it the 360 cock blocks you from playing Alan Wake if it detects you using its "official Microsoft" branded VGA cable, right?

Fuuuuuuu
A 50-foot TV, hoooooly cow. ;p

Also, I'm neither a super Microsoft fan nor a Linux zealot, but I miss the days when Microsoft studios published games. I actually kind of LIKED Fable: Lost Chapters on PC, and Microsoft had years of flight simulator games before they dissolved that studio, if I recall correctly. I guess they profit from people playing their games on Windows, but they want to just push the hardware.

Excellent point. :lol

Right now, I am posting from my PC while sitting on my comfy couch. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THAT MICROSOFT ?
