Microsoft E3 Trademark And Rumor Round-Up [Up8: Xbox Live Diamond, Kinect Disneyland]

Just give me a price drop on the basic units. I'm sick and tired of Sony's ineptitude on getting PSN store up.

But what Pachter considers good is stuff that'll "sell sell sell". He doesn't really care if that's 'hardcore' games or more Kinect.

Anyways, if they announce a price drop on the S-model with the 250 gig HDD, I might end up replacing my old one. Or I might save up for the next generation, not sure yet. :lol

Nothing wrong with considering something good when people want it enough to buy it, rather than defining "good" based on narrow genre categories...

I'm all for people not liking what Kinect has to offer, because after all as consumers we are all entitled to speak with our wallets. But its the silly goal post moving I'm talking about here, the people who come into Kinect thread before EVERY single big milestone, blind hating and repeating the same tired arguments from 18 months ago and are nowhere to be seen afterwards.

Its the stuff bitter tears are made of. So while I'm not mainly interested in Kinect, I welcome an entire conference littered with Kinect just to see the reactions.
My argument has been that the Kinect's control system makes it difficult to create the mechanics-driven experiences that the 360's core demographic demands, and I've yet to see anything that changes my mind on that yet.

That may end up being a drag on the platform. Kinect software sales have been relatively anemic, especially considering its sizable install base.

Hey valid point, I mean I know first hand as well.. I own a Kinect. I haven't fired it up in atleast 3 months but I do love me some DC or Kinect Sports... when I have people over.

I agree though, thus far its been pretty lackluster as far as pushing what the hardware can do. I think we're all kind of hoping that launch software is well.. launch software. Hopefully these baked in 2.0 games are going to show what time and polish can do.

If MS doesn't hit the ball out of the park for Kinect at this years E3.. I'm afraid they'll have missed their prime opportunity to really push the platform. So I want some core Kinect games, but I want me some standard non Kinect games as well.. and in abundance.

The current trend with the so called "core" gamers is to demand cinematic setpieces (like Call of Duty or Uncharted), and they can totally be done with Kinect.

I like Pachter's take on things, but this would mean a lot more to me coming from the enthusiast press.
Pachter isn't all that bad. He pointed at the same 2008 GOTY I did (Fallout 3 :)). Meanwhile GAF's 2008 GOTY was yet another game not focused on game mechanics... The hardcore gaming community is a joke. (Fallout 3 is mostly exploration driven, but it's still more gamey than GAF's GOTY). I reach as back as 2008 because I don't know what were Pachter's choices after that.

Here's an interesting rumour, if you can call it that.

This was just up on EA's store for about 20 minutes:

It looks like it's down now, but a few people on the Bioware forum caught it and it still seems to be uploaded on the store server. Legit or mistake?

Well from what I have learned: everything is better with Kinect!

:O What could they have added?

"We're not going to do a party game, we're not going to do Dance Dance Krogan for Mass Effect. The reality is it's going to have a really positive impact. Can we create a greater sense of immersion during conversations by using gestures? I think we probably could and I think that's where we'll explore." Bioware boss Greg Zeschuktold GamesIndustry.biz last year.

And BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka last year: "You could bolt it on, do it as afterthought, kind of 'Hey, Ta-dah! It's Kinect-enabled! Check!' Well, that's not how we would do it. We would actually try to think about how you do it in a way that actually makes the game better."

Probably command controls with your voice and hands.
Intresting.

So we know 3 games with the better with Kinect tagline now, you think they their will be a blowout at E3?

I really want to see if they can do anything that will be more efficient with motion sensing than just controller input.
I think they'd probably go for immersion rather than efficiency. For example, to stop someone mid-conversation either hit 'A' on the renegade option to punch them or... actually punch them.

Really want to see imbedded, but optional Kinect stuff in the core gameplay. Seperate Kinect modes are bad for the most part. If ME3 has a neat integration, than that is one game that could push some folks over the edge I guess.

And competitive multiplayer. Might be harder to pull that one off. Players are extremely unforgiving when imprecision introduced by another device causes them to lose online. This is evidenced by the current vitriol against lag and the 360's dpad.

Arnt MS leading US atm with console hardware sales? I expect major ballin by Matrick when they start talking numbers.

Also expecting snipes at Sony's PSN catastrophe. Gonna be awesome.

I'm sure Mattrick will get out at least one, "Xbox Live, the best online network. The best selection of games, and content. The best selection of movies, the best social features and the best at remaining online."

Or something cringe worthy, which 2 people will laugh.

Speak the available dialogue options instead of using the controller?

Probably that 3rd party MagnifEye thing for 360?

Yeah. I think it's going to be something weird. It wouldn't surprise me if MS have some sort of split 360 controller that they'd announce it a few days before the conference to get all the "what happened to you are the controller?" snark out of the way.

Out on a limb, what do you think the chances are that Microsoft will show Windows 8 enabled-tablets/slates as yet another method to control your Xbox 360 for non-game entertainment?

Going to lol hard if they show a wand and nun-chuck for Kinect.

Maybe Microsoft will have first dibs on it.

What what what? A reason to cancel my DirecTV?

Windows 8 hasn't even been formally announced, and anything Steve Ballmer has said about it was already retracted. At most you might see some Win7 phone action going on.
someone hasn't been reading engadget.

could just be a shitty 3rd party hardware.
My thoughts too. It's IGN!

I don't think they'll do that. Apart from being highly unprofessional, they'd only be setting themselves up for a fall. And then there's the RROD fiasco not so long ago (although Sony took plenty of snipes at that one). Not to mention the Xbox Live downtime back at Christmas 07.

I'm sure they will. These conferences are always full of unprofessional sniping and the XBL (intermittent) downtime of 2007 is hardly comparable to what happened with Sony.

Ha - the Cole Train video was pretty funny and I quite enjoyed The Stig one as well. Kind of cool to see these snippets hyping the event.

MechAssault 3 confirmed!!

Well whilst it probably won't be at the MS conference the developer with Smith and Tinker do still it listed on their website as "coming soon" with a link to the press release so I would assume for now its still coming just experiencing difficulties or taking longer than anticipated.
