Bungie said a few weeks ago it was coming "late spring". This doesn't fit.

I suspect one is Live related from Major Nelson's hint and the Live service going on right now. The other is the Elite SKU.

If it is about game which is already announced and coming either today or tomorrow, it's not a reason to be that excited. Get ready for mega disappointment.
 
i have a feeling these will be pretty significant announcements, just based on the timing. i'm sure they want to make it a week of 360 announcement - 360 announcement - gta4 trailer to have an incredibly solid week in the press.

Also thinking, if it was that big why didn't they announce it last week to combat the PS3 euro launch. Or maybe hearing how successful the launch was in places like UK maybe they wanted to combat it with their own positive PR in some way.. just some random thoughts.

I only got in last week. I thought the Xbox 360 Beta had just started.

Either way, why would MS want to competing betas? Who would play Shadowrun when Halo 3 is available?

Either way, it's old news. The beta is ongoing, the release date (well, month) is known. And can you imagine the ararchy if one of these was Shadowrun related?

This is exciting folks. I'm pumped for this announcement today!

Don't you love it when you don't expect something and then it just shows up?

I'm thinking the spring update could be happening tonight or tomorrow! Thats my prediction, and I think we'll see some pretty cool new features being added.

would be really, really awesome.

But more realistically, I'm leaning towards a new demo of something major and Halo 3 beta info/vidoc/map flybys

No it doesn't. It's the same baseless assumptions we're making in this thread.

You have to keep in mind that news story clearly says there will be video. I think that means we will have a new trailer for a game we all love (Mass Effect) or first footage of an already announced game (Banjo).

A video of the Elite would be pointless. Video of Halo is possible but this seems like too small a stage. Plus, would they really have new Halo footage right before GTA video hits? Take 2 wouldn't be pleased.

Oh, I hope thats not it. If they had a "special announcement" about the hard drive i'd be pissed. That thing is gonna be of interest to a small portion of the userbase, and i'm not part of it.
 
Halo 3 gamerpics and themes will be added to the Marketplace?

It's probably something service-related; probably another step towards the IPTV stuff would be my guess.

I mean didn't they say the Beta will be a level of the MP that is finished and represents the final Halo 3 product. But aren't they still doing things to the graphics and ect to the game(from the Bungie reports)

Hm forgot about the GTA IV announcement on Thursday.

By the looks it will it will definitely be Game-Related since they have videos of them, so the "Elite" and Spring Update is out.

I believe that the two videos will probably be 2 BIG MS published games so that will make an impact this year 2007.

1. Halo 3 In-game Video + Info.
2. Too Human In-Game Video + Info.
3. Mass Effect In-game Video + Info.

So Tuesday and Wednesday's 9:00pm slots can take up 2 of the above and then GTA IV's Thursday video! :D

Bungie said a few weeks ago they were shooting for "late spring". Just a couple updates ago, they were not yet locked down on which features would make the beta.

Me too. It's probably Xbox 360 Elite related with some sidebar comment about a new Xbox Live service or feature that you can be optimized for if you buy the Elite.

I don't remember them saying it would be a finished level that represents final halo 3 poduct. if they do that thats a big mistake. you never release an open beta and say it represents final product because with a game this big people expectations are too high. you want to give consumers the thought that it will get better than what they are playing in the beta.
