I think it was handled poorly too. It took them a year and 4/5 months to come out with a larger HDD despite much complaining, and when they do it's either 20GB or 120GB. There's no happy medium here. 20Gb is a bit cramped, but I think some people would be just fine with a cheaper 60GB or so.

What if I don't want wireless, so I knock off 100 bucks there. Also what if I don't want" HD-DVD, so I knock off 200 bucks there.


So if I "choose" not to get these 2 featuers then I can get a XBOX 360 with 60 gigs more space than a PS3 for 120 bucks less.

Nothing wrong with having choice, except you're still getting a horrible value without the wireless and HD-DVD.

If a comparable configuration to $600 PS3 (i.e. Elite + wireless + HD-DVD) would be be $600 as well (not in reality), and you decide not to buy wireless ($100) and HD-DVD ($200), the Elite SKU should actually cost only $300. But, no, MS is charging $480 for it.

Edit: oh, the difference of $180 (i.e. Rip-price $480 minus should-be-price $300) must be for the additional 100 GB HDD space...horrible

Only way I can see them justifying this is by dropping the price of the Premium SKU. They need to start attacking Sony's price point while Sony is weak, not get closer to that price point.
