Microsoft reveals its two part console reveal for the next Xbox

Looks like tomorrow is strictly about the console while E3 is about the games.
EDIT: COD Ghosts will be there for sure.

The next Xbox console will be revealed in two stages, according to Microsoft's interactive entertainment chief of staff Aaron Greenberg speaking on the latest Major Nelson podcast.

As was previously announced, the first stage of the reveal begins May 21 in which the company will unveil its next generation Xbox console. The second presentation will take place during E3 and focus squarely on the games that will release for the new platform.

"We have so much goodness that there's no way we could have packed it all into one event," Greenberg stated, as transcribed by CVG.

"The best way I can describe it is, we're really going to tell one story across two events. So we're going to start on the 21 [of May] and really that's about revealing the next Xbox platform and our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment. We definitely have a lot of surprises planned.

"People are going to get a great inside look at the making of the new platform and the team that brought it to life. To be honest it's really about the team, the people here. We've never done this before, so it's really exciting to be able to do that.

"It's a lot of laying the foundation, and then just a couple weeks later we go to E3, and E3 is all about the games. It's going to be tons of exclusives [and] world premiers."

Polygon and The Verge will be teaming up with live video shows before and after the Microsoft press conference, beginning tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. EST. Hosted by Polygon's Justin McElroy and The Verge's Joshua Topolsky, the shows will bring you all the latest news as it happens, with live reports from our reporters on the ground at Microsoft's campus in Redmond, Washington.

There will be games. We know we are getting CoD for sure. I am sure there will be 1 or 2 others and some sort of sizzle reel of games coming at e3.

It makes sense leaving the bulk of the games to E3. As the 21st is broadcasted on TV they are going to focus on aspects of the console that appeal to the mainstream masses.

I hope the box is shown for the sake of all these posts I have saved!

Lol jk

They're going to show at least a few games. Cod is tomorrow.

It's always fun watching people jump to conclusions so quickly. We already know CoD is going to be shown tomorrow. Could some of you at least pretend to use your brains when posting?

Well, we know the next 3 weeks will be filled with complaints that:
  • Microsoft must not have games to show because they don't have as strong a first party as they should
  • They really must be behind like that one rumor said
  • They are focusing on apps and services because they have no gamez

I think people are misreading. It doesn't say there won't be any games tomorrow, just that won't be the primary focus, whereas at E3 it will be.

So tomorrow is going to be a complete waste of my time. I picture an hour of those talking heads like in Bungie's Destiny videos where they talk about how great they are and what an honor everything is.

Fuck off. Show games - release specs - fade to black.

Actually, they are going to be doing some game showing ...

did anyone told them not to show games on a console reveal??

So console and the Mini shown off tomorrow and a bit of talk about the team and their dev process? I guess we'll at least we'll get system details. Doesn't sound like it'll be that long of a presentation if they aren't going to focus on games.

Maybe we'll see some tech demos and what not to show off the 'power' of the system.

Ghosts and pgr5 will be there for sure, maybe they'll be used to demonstrate Durango functionalities and hardware.
I wouldn't mind it if this was the case.

They will show 3-4 games at least I reckon. CoD only would be a pretty terrible showing. It would send out a rather resolute "New Gen, same old guff."

I listened to the podcast, they are saving most for E3 but will give you a tiny sample of what it has tomorrow.
