Microsoft to reorganize entertainment division

Microsoft has split its entertainment and devices division into four businesses, the latest reorganization at the world's largest software maker, according to a company e-mail to employees on Wednesday.

The reorganization follows Microsoft's decision in September to streamline its businesses into three divisions to compete more effectively against Google, Oracle and the Linux operating system.

The chief of the entertainment and device unit, Robbie Bach, responsible for launching Microsoft's Xbox video game business, told employees in a Wednesday e-mail he would turn his focus to longer-term strategy and partner relationships.

The decision to reorganize the unit comes after the company in November launched its latest Xbox 360 video game console. Next year, Xbox rivals PlayStation 3 from Sony and Nintendo's Revolution will hit the market.

"While I will continue to play an important role in the games area, I will spend more time thinking about our broader challenges and opportunities across the division," Bach wrote in the e-mail.

Bach said Bryan Lee would take over as head of a new entertainment business charged with overseeing the company's growing digital efforts in music, television and video.

Other changes include broadening the role of Peter Moore as head of the interactive entertainment business, which includes both the Xbox and Games for Windows business, Bach said.

This must have convinced Microsoft to promote him:

Have you ever experienced a Lucid Dream?

Part of this "reorganization" should be firing all the people who created the marketing campaign and subsequent launch for 360 in Japan.

Its not clear what business segments will be grouped with 360...

???

"While I will continue to play an important role in the games area, I will spend more time in Siberia, thinking about our broader challenges and opportunities across the division," Bach wrote in the e-mail.

"I see."

*yawn*

I wonder how it is to be working in MS Windows Gaming division, fucked countless times over by team "friends" from MS Xbox Division.

They gonna make him hand in his Xbox sneakers?

Where is J Allard on that list?
DEMOTED

'J.Allard, I got your resignation letter, framed and right here. Check this shit, Bitch.'

*Parody of this: "What gets me out of bed and into the office every day is the thought of Ken Kutaragi's resignation letter, framed, hanging next to my desk." - J.Allard. Linkified

Peter Moore is the best exec in the business. He knows what he is doing. All of this is his master plan.

I know what you meant, Vince. That comment was pretty shitty of J. Allard, so karma and all that. I still don't wish him to lose his job or anything though.

:lol :lol :lol

What goes around certainly did come around didn't it?

Where the hell did you get he was demoted in the first place?

The influence of Microsoft's Xbox group is spreading further through the company. As part of a series of executive shifts, some of Microsoft's top Xbox executives have been named to bigger roles, giving them leadership positions for more of company's digital entertainment initiatives.
Also getting a new position is J Allard, who will head a group overseeing the design and user experience for Microsoft's gaming and entertainment products. He'll also still be involved in Xbox Live and other aspects of the console business. Here's my interview with Allard at an event prior to the Xbox 360 launch.

Peter Moore ????????

pray for the Xbox division!!!!!!!

and Allard has been shafted?? Obviously fucking up the launch didn't help.

From Corporate Vice President and Chief XNA Architect to... "heading a group overseeing the design and user experience for Microsoft's gaming and entertainment products"

Uhm, is he still holding these titles the same way because this seems like a significant drop in influence in terms of position

According to GAF, Kutaragi was promoted six months ago. So yeah, Allard got demoted using the same logic.

Really? Cause I thought it was pretty clear that GAF logic claimed Kutaragi was fuck owned.

If you read the article, he's listing the executives who got bigger roles. My guess he got that role as an extra to what he already has and/or he got something bigger and someone else will fill his space with XNA.

I think it would have been worded differently if this was a promotion for Allard. Have you ever seen a corporation announcing the fireing or demotion of an exec?

my conflict with this theory is that technically his old position would already include these responsibilities, so these seems more insulary and focused.

The rebels will still end up launching a desperate attack and blowing up Moore's planet destroying space station in the end.

Well in the interviews I've read Stringer seems to agree that the Playstation brand is VERY important to Sony... have him be the direct link between Ken and the board definitely speaks to that... it doesn't demote Ken anymore... like the other post said... anyone besides Stringer in that position would be more of a demotion for Ken... guess this thread will now fade in to obscurity...
looks like GAF logic to me.

Some people at my school swear to God they saw J. Allard walking around the halls with someone last week.
There's already a couple MS/Xbox employees that work here.

OMG, J Allard is gonna be the new chef in your school canteen!

No that LOOKS like MY logic incorrect or correct... and I believe if we look further in the thread that there is a strong push made to show that it is a demotion.

I'm of course flattered that you think I = GAF... but.. no.

Bruce Dawson and Scott Berfield are the two big names that come to mind. There's some other people, but I haven't kept up.
