More about this, from Dean Takanashi's blog:

Meanwhile, I've been a little confused about the appointment of Peter Moore as the top Xbox guy last Thursday. Robbie Bach, the chief Xbox officer who was running the Home and Entertainment Group, was promoted this fall to run Entertainment & Devices, one of four groups within Microsoft. He is "retiring" the title chief Xbox officer. Peter Moore steps up to assume more of Robbie's responsibilities and day-to-day management of Xbox and Windows games. But Peter doesn't get the title of No. 1 at Xbox. Meanwhile, J Allard, head of the Xbox platform, and Mitch Koch, head of retail sales and part of marketing, expand their roles to serve all of the Entertainment and Devices group. Allard will be more like the chief technology officer of E&D, O'Donnell said. Koch will continue his role but across all of the different E&D businesses, which include things like Internet TV and cell phones. Bryan Lee, chief financial officer of the Home and Entertainment Group, will now run the MSN business which includes Internet TV. And Allard, Koch and Lee will continue to report to Bach. My interpretation of that was that Robbie needed to appoint someone to run the Xbox affairs but wasn't willing to risk the possibility that some of his lieutenants would leave if they didn't get the job. He came up with a very Solomonesque solution. But I wonder who is really running Xbox.

He was demoted, all right!
