Microsoft: Xbone vs PS4 spec difference is fairly marginal

PR that needs to be shot down. If you don't people could see the trend of BS and start to believe. What was that Goebbels quote again?

A moot point on NeoGaf, but its a good habit to spread
It shouldn't need to be shot down.

You'd think people here would be intelligent enough to see it for what it is, but that is probably asking too much, I admit.

I haven't turned on my PS3 since I got my PS4 but if there is a demo I'll fire it up.

Yeah there's a demo

Doubt you have PS+ but digital version of the game is 7 bucks with plus and I'm sure a gaf member could get you a 7 day code

Except this past launch/year one.

You mean the two months since launch? With absolutely nothing, not a single game of merit being released in the next 10 months

The specs of the machines matter little against the games that come out. "Proving" your favorite console to be superior spec to others does not do anything in the grand scheme except spread hatred and segregation in the gaming community of which there is plenty of already.

The ps4 has great looking games and the xbone has great looking games.

Eh, not everyone likes PS exclusives.
Same goes for Xbox. How active is Halo 4 or Gears these days? I'm betting it's pretty far down the list. Multiplatform games dominate on BOTH platforms. That's because the more consoles a game is on the more hype it gets and the more people buy it to play with their friends.

I like KZ2, Uncharted 1, TLOU, Resistance 1 ,MGSIV, and Beyond. The rest are dumpster lining.

Not sure if this is extremely specific tastes or dismissal. It reminds me of when people say "I don't like Nintendo exclusives" when there's a ton of high quality games in many genres.

The funny thing is last gen Sony and Microsoft essentially used the same hardware. Not much different than this time around either. They big difference is the DDR5 RAM Sony used and The ESRAM/DDR3 RAM Microsoft used. In the end, the third party games will look essentially the same on both next gen consoles. With the torch being passed from box to box depending on the developer.

It will take developers time to really optimize on the 8 cores and the large pool of RAM each one has. I am sure they will find some tricks for squeezing out more performance from the xbones ESRAM, to get it close to the bandwidth gap of the DDR5 in the PS4. I don't anticipate any of the games to run at 1080p/60FPS on "Ultra" settings. There just isn't enough power to match a high end gaming PC where this is possible. Obviously, we haven't seen the best experience from either of the boxes yet. We won't until the cross gen games stop.

On paper PS4 definitely has more horse power. However, that is not why I chose the PS4 over the xbone. I was a huge 360 fan boy. I thought it delivered a better multiplayer experience than the PS3. That was a big one for me because I enjoyed playing games with my friends. The games looked the same except the first party games on both systems. The reason I chose the PS4 this time is because I believe Sony caught up to the XBL experience with their PS+ service as well as the value add of the free games.

The biggest reason for the change this time around for me was all the BS Microsoft tried to pull beginning at E3. Their anti consumer practices; no used games, always online, and shoving an accessory I didn't want down my throat with the Kinect. This was their vision. A vision completely out of line with what gamers and fans of their system wanted.

Sony offered an unchained experience. So they got my money.

I wouldn't start putting PS4s in the same category as PCs. The PS4 is definitely more powerful than Xbox, but it is much closer to XB1 than to PCs. In a few years, the gap between PS4/XB1 and PCs will look much larger, while the gap between PS4/XB1 will look smaller.

Well yeah, that was my point. That poster thinks that the PS4 and PC would receive games that the Xbox was incapable of running. I was just wondering how long it would take to reach that hypothetical sweet spot where the PS4 was powerful enough, the Xbox wasn't and games would target a PC that was at least more powerful than Xbox for the lowest settings.

Ugg.

And no, it doesn't sound any better when I hear this stuff from Sony either, or anyone else.
Yup, anytime I hear of "exclusive DLC" all that means to me is that company A or B payed for it not to show up on the other platform. Shitty shitty practice that I'm not too hopeful of ever disappearing.

Wow Gaf hyperbole at its finest. Have you played puppeteer btw?

I hate going off-topic... but what do people like about Puppeteer? It seems fairly overrated at this point. I played it for an hour last night (cheap on PSN sale), and it just seemed like another Sony platformer with loose controls. The presentation is awesome, but everything else seems incredibly mediocre. Is there more puzzle gameplay after Act I?

I think EA and MS have agreed that they will push Xbox One this generation, while other publishers have taken a more balanced approach for DLC.

Yep exclusive DLC in any form is dumb. Platform exclusive, retailer exclusive etc.

Hmm puppeteer isn't the best game I've played this year but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't beaten it yet though. I found the controls to be fine and the level design and play style appealed to me. In many ways the
changing of the heads for different abilities
was a new gameplay style than I'm used to and I quite enjoyed it. I would certainly say like any game it's not for anyone but I still consider it a solid exclusive

PS4.....easier to develop for, better hardware, no BS Kinect. And the power gap already shows and it's just going to get wider. MS u dun goof.

Good PR -> Make thread, supporters circlejerk, 1000 page thread.
Bad PR -> Make thread, non-supporters circlejerk, 1000 page thread.

You can't have one without the other. It's the Ying and the Yang.

Agree 100%. Especially when it's dlc that adds to the game length. I'm not bothered about exclusive cosmetic stuff but real content should be available. Timed dlc is just dumb and pointless as well.

MS need to shut up about this power difference because they are the only ones going on about it and no one believes this PR bs.

While it may not be true on paper, in practice the difference is marginal. Nobody is going to care about 900p vs 1080p, or slightly lower AA. The games are the exact same otherwise.

Price OTOH does matter. A lot. And the difference there is far greater than marginal. MS needs to get rid of the damn kinect if they want any chance of holding on to the US market. Once ps4 supply issues are sorted out, things are going to get ugly for the xbone really fast.

Nobody? Are you serious? Hell, look at COD; 720p Xbone vs 1080p on PS4; I consider this a damn near generational difference.

Yeah I agree it does that too, but I choose the side fighting against companies making money from lies. The gaming community is so hate ridden I wouldn't know where to start! Hard balance to hit. I also dislike Microsoft for being Mircosoft and their track record of shittyness so theres that.

I'm going to look at the bright side here, since there is enough criticism on this thread already. They are acknowledging that the spec difference exists! That's something, isn't it? Remember when they were trying to say that the Xbox is in fact faster in many ways and failed to acknowledge any advantage? This is at least palatable. Give them time, people. They will eventually come around.

Oh, it's one of those games...

eh if anything it'll just encourage MS to diversify their exclusives a bit I feel. Good news for gamers regardless of what PR chooses to say

To be fair though that's a rush title on both . What post launch games announced have not specifically said 1080/30 for both?

We are going to see third parties do just what NSF rivals did . The xbone version will cut back and use lesser effects before giving up resolution.

Added some things. NeoGAF is a lot of fun.

Why does Microsoft not stop talking about the power difference? Just shut up about it. They keep bringing it up again and again but it just makes them look worse. Focus on your exclusive games and features and don't talk about hardware capabilities.

Loose controls for PS3 platformers seems to be the norm for me. I hope Knack is starting a new trend for PS4. The controls in that game are perfect.
Is Knack actually any good?

I've been avoiding it because of all the bad things I've heard but it'd be nice to have a coop game to play.

I have a gaming PC, so it really is only about the games and exclusives on any console for me.

Everyone else can have their little childish console warrior fight.
