Microsoft: Xbox Series X|S launch is the largest in Xbox history

I can believe this though. The first two gens had to have been like "who"? The 360 in particular didn't really hit its stride until after halo 3 launched. (Rrod really scared people in the beginning years)

And the xbox one? shit, the weak marketing, mismanaged 180's and a $500price point for a weaker system and a camera 98% of people had no interest in really didn't help.
I was still finding Day One editions of the XB1 at stores like a month after launch.

Didn't regret my purchase though.

No, they won't, and don't have to. Neither company is making any substantial profit off the hardware alone. All console sales mean is install base. MS has a larger install base than either Sony or Nintendo, because there are more windows PC's in homes, without selling a single Xbox console.
They did at the start of current gen. And continued to do so as long as sales were pretty much in line with PS4.

bestselling doesn't even really work in place of largest in that tweet though

"Bestselling launch in Xbox history" would make it clear they've sold more with this launch compared to any previous launch they've ever had.

"Largest" can mean a number of things.

Bestselling launch just doesn't sound correct though if you ask me. Maybe I'm tired.

Well I get what you're saying. Saying they sold the most during this launch vs just the largest launch.

Holy Shit, folks just trying to celebrate Xbox launch and ..every...single..@#$%& ....MS thread turns into this by none other.

How you neckbeards do NOT get exhausted clocking this overtime with same ol' overused material year after year. ? Come up with something new and exciting, pweeeease. We know about y'all insecurities and "but my plastic is better" shtick..You not getting an Xbox ANYWAY why you give a @#$% and so much heart felt fake ass concern 🤣🙊

Maybe MS is calling it the biggest just by sheer volume. Those Series X boxes are quite large, im sure they add up over time. 😅

Seriously though congrats to MS even though they knew they would sell every box they made (except in Finland and Slovakia.)

Every Xbox console launch is largest.
Every everything is the largest now.

When was the last time somebody put out PR that said it was the second largest launch in their line?

"We are pleased To announce that the iPhone 30 was the 28th largest launch we ever had, only beating the iPhone 5 and iPhone X"

That's just never going to happen.

lol that makes no sense. Both will sell every console they produce. The Xbox could have had 200 new AAA exclusive games for launch and it still couldn't have sold more consoles. No amount of games makes more consoles available.

Nice , you downplaying Sony sellibg more. Am I doing this right?

They can't sell more if they didn't make more.

Console warring on Day 1 is as pointless as putting gas in a car that won't run.

They will go as far as logistics will let them. It won't be until spring where they are both readily available that we start seeing just what legs they have.

I'm not warring. He says a guy was downplaying MS, Then goes on to say Sony will only sell more because they produced more, it's the exact same thing. The guy is losing his mind.

It was meant for both, but I could only reply to one.

I wasn't singling you out.

haha what? I didn't say anything remotely like that hahahaha

I said that no amount of First Party Exclusive Games could have made the Xbox sell more consoles than it did because it sold out. It can't sell more than SOLD OUT. I didn't say anything even remotely like what you took from it lol. Might want to brush up on your reading and comprehension skills mate. Maybe ask an adult to help.

Really? I thought the box and console itself was really small. Way smaller than Xbox one.
the Series S is tiny and Series X is way smaller than I thought

It was a joke, I'm not actually sure if the box is bigger or smaller than the one my Xbox One came in. I'd have to go digging and find the box to compare.

I will say they way they packed it up did seem cool though. when you opened the box and it was kind of on a pedestal was pretty nice.

Superb A++ to whoever came up with that design.

The packaging was very nice. So incredibly easy to open too, with the pull-tab-esque stickers holding the lid down. I was actually surprised by how small the Series X is.

TBH it was about the same size I imagined it to be (and a bit heavier then I expected)

I angled mine at a 45 degree turn so it looks like a diamond instead of a square and my son keeps getting mad at me when he sees it.

He says I should have it facing front.

Every console manufacturer says this every generation as the gaming market at the start of each gen is always bigger than it was at the start of the previous. Sony will say the same on Friday.
This is true, however MS has developed a really strong desire for XBSX like no other previous Xbox. There's no denying that whether you are XBSX or PS5 or even both you are getting a fantastic console this time around with very little compromises.
Job well done. 👏

Apparently, the Series X is sold out in Japan. All 15 units.

Joking aside, we'll see what "biggest launch" means and if Microsoft will start to share sales numbers again.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but this is typical PR talk.
They did the same with the Xbox One and we know how that turned out.

Burst my bubble? Of course it's PR, it's literally a PR "media release" lol.

Are you insinuating that they're telling lies?

Weird to brag about something you supposedly don't care about. Release the numbers you cowards.

Seriously though, what will be interesting is how it sells between the new year and Halo. i think it will do x1 numbers for a while after the initial rush, and become more competitive year 2 onwards

This thread is going as well as expected!

Congrats to MS on the big launch. It's a great console. Anyone who has one will be happy. Anyone who wants one but is still waiting, it'll be worth the wait. And to those of you who don't want one but relish in shitting on it and anything MS have to say, sort your fucking life out 🤣

Maybe I'm missing something. The tweet reads: '... In 24 hrs more new consoles sold, in more countries, than ever before.' Given this, can you provide an alternative definition for "largest launch in Xbox history" where the tweet's statements are true, that doesn't also mean the best-selling launch, that makes sense?
I'm struggling, without some serious mental gymnastics.

The sold more Xboxes at launch than ever before. They also sold Xboxes in more countires at launch than ever before. The result is the largest - in terms of sales, in terms of launches, in terms of available software - launch ever. "Best selling" doesn't highlight the fact that Microsoft managed to launch in more countries on day one than they ever have - during a global pandemic, no less. "Largest" is therefore the best choice of words, because its true - in every sense of the word.

GAF linguistics detectives: "Hmm, that doesn't necessarily imply it's the bestselling launch"

Never change GAF :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Deserved and expected.

Game Pass and BC, alongside the All Access payment plan and offering the cheapest next gen console, all give a decidedly pro-consumer strategy that make this the most enticing generation for Xbox yet.

Launching in more countries helps too,of course.

I certainly think Sony will sell millions more than xbox. But right now the rumors are that Sony is already vastly outpacing MS sales.

With MS selling out series x in minutes online that would mean Sony produced way more units than MS.

Is there any pre launch indication of Sony out producing MS by this much?

Reminds me of how platform holders always without fail come out with:

"This is the most powerful console we've ever launched"

It's like yeah... no fucking shit... console manufacturers generally don't put out weaker consoles.

MS should have bothered to at least put out a remaster/remake of an old game for the release. Fable 1 would have been a good choice but they decided to believed in 343 and the result we already know...

Congrats Xbox on a good launch. Competition is good and makes everyone better. I'm eagerly waiting to see what both consoles can do when devs get to grips with them.

haha what? I didn't say anything remotely like that hahahaha

Dude, STFU if you have nothing useful to add.

You have an incessant need to stoke console wars in every single thread. On the first page you started this trail of shit with your 'downplaying' argument. You're already got warned over your VRR bullshit in another thread.
