I prefer Sony's approach with the VR facehugger. If it's a surround-projector then won't you be blinded by it too or other ppl. in the room? Nah, I don't like it.
They're on the floor, it's just an illustrative drawing.

Are they seriously trying to patent the fact that only a portion of the game world is shown on the t.v. at one time, or is this just someone at Microsoft trolling gaming forums?
In a way, yes, but it would show the actual gaming environment all around you. It would probably be projected in lower res, because it's only meant for peripheral vision, i.e. not something you would look directly at. That's still reserved for the main display.
