Microsoft's next CEO is reportedly Satya Nadella (MS Cloud/Enterprise head)

Nadella talked about the importance of the cloud and enterprise technologies, but notably also talked up the significance of Microsoft's Xbox One console – a month after Bloomberg claimed that a rival candidate for the CEO role, Stephen Elop, might consider selling its Xbox business.
"From Xbox in the previous generation to Xbox One it's fundamentally transformed," said Nadella, before praising one of the new console's racing games' asynchronous multiplayer feature. "It's learning how you race, it creates a digital avatar that then on behalf of you races with others, and you get points for it... Having this ambient intelligence that's powering every experience is what we will see though in the next 10 years."
Sounds like he's drinking the Koolaid.

Well I mean I have no doubt it will one day be like this, it's just that the tech were not yet here, especially at those prices. Neither is AI.

I'm not sure how I feel about those stiff thumbs.

I've been an employee here in STB while he was the head of the division. Obviously a peon doesn't really know much about what type of a job the division boss is doing, but I always liked him. Solid presenter, technical guy, and did a good job of making STB into a highly profitable division. For what little I know I'm happy with him as the new CEO.

Given that enterprise wont go fucking near Windows 8
yes, they did leave it to try to imitate apple

Windows isn't their biggest moneymaker in terms of Enterprise and that wouldn't have changed if W8 was the second coming. It isn't like they have stopped developing their real enterprise offerings.

He seems to be one of those "digital is the future" guys (so hasn't put a step outside sillicon valley in years) so I reamin wary. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Gates is reportedly gone. Some reports even cite Nadella as new Chairman as Microsoft, although that remains to be seen.

Every report prior to today indicated Gates will remain as Chairman and actually become more involved with MS again.
Him stepping down would be the opposite and I don't think Nadella is in the position to demand anything alike from Ballmer/Gates. Mulally and Vestberg may have been but those ships have sailed.

And yet, it's hard to believe a 20-year Microsoft man can provide the kind of change in vision and direction they need. I tend to think people like that are part of the cultural problem, not the solution. We'll see.

The last thing Microsoft needs in a transition period of great existential risk is someone liable to make big rash changes, a seasoned company man is exactly what they need.

But he also needs to be left to do it without manipulation from the old guard.

Do they need to evolve a bit to reflect changing realities? Of course, but those changes need to be risk averse and gradual, not paradigm changing schisms that could topple the whole empire.

Sounds like a good choice to me, certainly better than Elop that's for sure.

He will be hamstrung by Ballmer and Gates being on the board. Won't change a thing.

Good luck to them.

Isn't that the plan by Gates and Balmer to continue pursuing both a consumer and enterprise vision for the company and so they don't pursue a 100% enterprise solution.

Stylish dude

Almost, that light jacket is one size too big. Those jeans weren't the best idea either, some casual Chinos would have made it better.
Aside from that, everything seems to be the correct size, so 9/10.

Stay stylish, GAF.

I have that same jacket. Sleeves are supposed to be long.

Being a "cloud" guy, I would expect him to pull an Adobe and make all MS software subscription-only. More Xbone emphasis on content services, possibly launch a streaming game service. More integration with Windows Phones and Live services, maybe with Surface also. But I think in general his focus would be more on reviving Windows sales and getting higher penetration of Windows Phones in Fortune 500s.

If this means they will push 'cloud everything' then he might be the guy to sink the gaming divion completely. Enterprise is a different story and is likely where they will continue to find success.

Yeah. They need a shakeup. They dragged their feet on mobile.

Not if you're trying to go for that trendy fit look, you can tell he's super slim so he needs clothes to be tight. I don't think it's the length itself, but rather the cut, they're too wide open for a skinny man.

All that money and I look back at my 360 games and wonder wtf were they doing for the last 4 years.

Yeah, that's the hilarious part. Sony was the one who's been bringing out more exclusives for the PS3 since 2009, while Microsoft started slipping on the 1st/2nd party exclusive category since on that same year or 2010 for Xbox 360.

Maybe not the best choice for Xbone, but from MS's point of view, isn't cloud and digital services pretty much exactly where they need to be heading at the moment?
