Every week, a new song is advertised on MTV as a new download, spots or stuff on mtv.com featuring people's videos of them playing, some wild convergent media shit like that and it could blow up massive. It has way too much muscle behind it between MTV and EA to not fulfill its intentions, and it's clear that it's intent is to be nothing less than a cultural phenomenon. Why else would it have the backing of MTV?
I kind of think you're underestimating it. And I don't mean just some random commercial. The game is going to be demoed and shown out the wazoo and what console the game is shown on is pretty significant. I think quite a few people are going to be walking into Best Buy this Chanukah, not looking for a particular console, but looking to play Rock Band and if one console can get attatched to the game quicker than the other it could pay some significant dividends.
I don't know, I think Rock Band is going to be a lot more massive than some people think, and as the Wii has shown, appealing to a casual market is how you really cement your console's place in the marketplace. That said, if the 360 can pull off a price drop before Rock Band? Then yeah, they could have that game officially locked up, even if Noodle and 2D both have PS3s strapped to their backs at the VMAs.
AdmiralViscen said:I'm not saying it can't outsell GH3, just that it's not an eventuality. I think RB2 has a better chance of outselling GH4, especially when you take GH3 on PS2 and Wii into account.
RB was shown on 360 in that GameSpot vid a few weeks ago, I don't know what makes you think PS3 will crib the mindshare for the game. It's multiplatform, no one will have any question about that. And the 700,000 GH2 360 guitars floating out there give it a pretty good starting base.
BenjaminBirdie said:That is true. They also are a bit better suited to coordinate DLC at this point. I really just hope they fulfill the potential of all that type of convergence. I'd really love to see some Pumpkins video debut on MTV and then a little thing comes up, "Download and play it yourself RIGHT NOW".
I'm sorry, what were talking about again? Rock band is going to be so awesome...

And if he's talking about better game quality, well that's opinion.
"This is a critical holiday," says Peter Moore, the Microsoft corporate vice president who runs its Xbox business. "It's the first time all three consoles will be in stock at retail, with no supply issues."
Jack Tretton, president and chief executive of Sony's U.S. videogames division, says: "Last holiday was a dress rehearsal."

I'm not sure the Xbox 360's heavyweights other than probably Lost Odysee have what it takes to sell Hardware units the Big games will probably sell like Gears did last year and do crap all to how many hardware units are sold.

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. Unless Killzone looks like God himself crafted it (aka it matches the target render), Halo 3 should go unchallenged as biggest franchise title with GTA coming in close behind it.GhaleonEB said:We don't have the full context for the quote, but it sounds like he's saying the 360 exclusives look better from the perspective of what games will drive hardware sales. Citing Halo 3 there seems appropriate.

Halo3

Mario Galaxy

Sony IPs

Shares of Nintendo Co. have more than doubled in value over the past year thanks to its wildly popular Wii videogame console and DS portable-game device. And analysts expect the price to increase for a while longer.

Wii, which is played with a remote control-shaped controller that is intuitively swung like a bat or a tennis racket, is outselling Sony's PlayStation 3 console by 4 to 1 and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 console by 2 to 1 in the U.S., the world's largest videogame market, according to NPD Group Inc.
In Japan, Wii sales have been even stronger, outselling the PS3 6 to 1 last month and the XBox 360 by even more, according to the latest survey by market-research firm Enterbrain Inc. released yesterday. The PS3 debuted last November and the Xbox 360 was launched in November 2005

Atul Goyal, an analyst with CLSA, is one of the most bullish industry analysts. He has a 12-month price target of 80,000 yen on Nintendo. CLSA doesn't have an investment-banking relationship with Nintendo.
"With a business model that is tantamount to a money avalanche, Nintendo always looks cheap," Mr. Goyal said in a recent research note. He compared Nintendo with Apple Inc.'s spectacular rise after launching its iPod music player.

"Yeah, that's right. So what do you think? Wrong! Whatever you were gonna say doesn't matter because I make more money than you. That's if you're 80% of the public. So, I'm right. Each year, Value Magazine ranks the 500 best people in the history of the world. Did you know that, according to Worthington's Law, the opera singer who called himself, [makes air apostrophes] "The Great Caruso" was nowhere near as great as Sammy Hagar, The Red Rocker? So shut up, Caruso! Hey! Who's greater than Saint Francis of Assisi? How about, uh, Darryl Strawberry? See ya later, Saint Frannie, ya schmuck. Hey, guess who's better than Van Gogh. Let's see, after adjusting for inflation...[uses calculator] almost everybody! He made nothing!"
"So that means that I'm better than Van Gogh and Galileo put together!"
"And I'm better than you, brainiac. In 1995, Steve Peaters had no money. He was a public school teacher, so his opinion wasn't worth very much. But then, in 1996, he won the lottery, and he was a great man. Greater than Einstein, who made very little. But then, guess what this genius-for-a-day does. He goes and gives his money to charity. Now he's about as dumb as Einstein. Way to go, Einstein. So, read Value Magazine, and get to know the 500 best people in the world."

KBC's Mr. Kamide expects Nintendo's April-June operating profit to have risen by nearly 60%, to 45.8 billion yen from 28.8 billion yen a year earlier. He expects sales to jump 52% to 199.2 billion yen. Nintendo is expected to report its quarterly earnings later this month.
"They're going to be minting [money]," he says.
