Minna no Golf Portable 2 - december

The Infrastructure in Twisted Metal: Head on was fantastic. I've never played a Mingol game Online, so I can't wait.

I think HGS:OT had 6 courses. I had to stop playing when I got to the highest or second-highest rank because it was taking too much time. I'll dive back in later.

12... god damn. This'll be awesome. I don't care if it's the 6 returning, either.

Yes but how many?
And where are the important titles with infrastructure?

Heaps.
Like nearly every big shooter, racer and sports game, and while we're on the topic how many DS games support 32 player infrastructure like Medal of Honor does?

Lets not turn this into a list thread - just trust us, the PSP is not "finally" getting an infrastructure game because of Hot Shots 2, it's just another in a long list.

I think he means that using infrastructure (and not ad-hoc) Sony is finally using the "official online way", as DS did since its first games.

Using a normal wifi system you should be able to play Minna 2 (like Killzone right?) with your friends all over the world without using Kai.

Ah.....

KAI

Why the hell don't you use it anymore?
Everytime I enter the PSP room I see people just playing Monster Hunter and Monster Hunter 2. This is a pity!!!!
Yeah that's what I meant... I haven't really noticed that many that lets you play with random players. Probably because I haven't been paying attention to PSP titles until a few months ago =P

Games like DJMP2, MHP, Gundam Battle Royale I have to go through KAI.

Shihiko updated his page with new Famitsu screens.

Many new official pictures. They look awesome.

And this one makes me dream!!!

I'm playing Hot Shots Golf 2 (yes, the PS1 game) on my PSP in frothing anticipation of the US release of HSG2...2.

I might pick up a PSP just for this. Waiting on Shihiko's impressions/review. How long was the delay between the first one's release in JP & NA? If I'm inclined to play it I'll probably just import like I did with HSG5.

Isn't this the 18th hole on South Alps from the first game? (from the Famitsu link)

Regardless, do want.

Looks like all those initial sales predictions early in the thread are way off. We'll have to see what kind of legs the game will have.

Yes. I remember that hole very well.

I did go through more of HSGOT1. I'm up to the platinum rank now, but it looks like finishing it will take a while. The courses are a bitch and there's a TON of items to get.

The delays are always long as hell, but I'd prefer just having English.

Waiting to see if there's an option to change how the distances are displayed before i import :lol . I've been playing HSG:OT for so long that i can eyeball the slope of a put and adjust putting power w/o even thinking about it. Unfortunately i can only do it in feet so any import version throws me off (HSG5 demo) and i'd rather not screw up the gauge in my head heh.

Was 5 mos. Open Tee was a launch title in JP and was out in Dec. we got it stateside early May. Wouldn't say that it'll be the same this time around though, hell we still don't have a US release date for HSG5 and that's been out since July.

It's only been out since the 5th, what's it sold so far to make it "way off"?

So no one picked this up? I might today, but I have Swing Golf Pangya 2 sitting here and We Love Golf hits next week. Not sure if I can go with three new golf games at the same time...

I think they were both launch titles, so December to March.

Shihiko's review is up (9/10), sounds like there are a lot of interesting new features:

As you expect to see in every second release on the same console Clap Hanz has increased the courses and characters to a nice multiple of 2 which crunches down to 12 Courses and 20 Characters. If you’re a fan of MingolP then there should be no stopping you on picking this one up, the game has gotten much better over all. There are however a few downsides but the positive aspects far outweigh the negatives.
....

Positive aspects about MingolP2 speaks for itself. Online Mode through Infrastructure, more great courses on top of the already true classics, still as easy to pick up as MingolP and also great improvement on the character system with the addition of item combinations being able to change the stats and abilities of a character.

Negative aspects I believe were quite minimal as I mentioned the positives out weigh the negatives far too much. Though some may feel different about these; Skull or High and Low Trajectory Impact shots removed, Less clubs and balls to customise with, More loyalty grinding required with each character, Poor online chat system well actually there isn’t one, Single save data file per memorystick and also still no method to pass and play multiplayer using one Playstation Portable system. It was also a shame they didn’t release a Playstation Portable Slim Bundle with it.

Recommendation… same as how I recommended MingolP I think… with the addition that this one is much more fun even if it is your first time into the series, plus you get everything the first game has and more. There is no need to fiddle with third party software and computers just so you can play with other people. Beginners should be able to squeeze out around 6 to 12 months of offline gaming and probably more if they get into playing it online. Great replay value as usual and also a good excuse to switch over to a Playstation Portable Slim.

DO WANT

Got this game yesterday. Damn fun; MNG really is the perfect on-the-go game. There are tons of collectable items, and as Shihiko noted in his review you different clothes and items actually affect your stats, which is quite cool.

So can you still level yourself up overall like in Open Tee or do the stat boosts only come from the clothes and items? Liked how in open Tee after collecting a certain amount of outfit / hair / acessory the stat associated with that piece went up slightly. Was a fairly significant boost, i know the power boost was 40 yards when you hit level 10. Would be dissappointed if this was taken out.

So they've taken a cue from Pangya? Nifty.

I believe you still level up regularly as well, but I'm just a few games in . . . and I don't read Japanese. Did notice the item boosts though.

Hmm hope so, would be disappointing for them to take all out all the extra clubs and balls and only let you know improve each char a tiny amount through items. That's the main reason i never got into the HSG series before Open Tee. I hated how chars never improved statistically, making early chars worthless on later courses.

Shihiko said that some balls and clubs were taken out, how many were left? Not looking for any specific club info just the total number. In Open Tee even if you didn't have a club there was a placeholder so if it's the same you should still be able to see how many are available.

So how CAN you alter shots? Is it still up-down for super backspin? Or is there a need for that anymore?

Also, what's the difference between the red and blue flaming shots?
(are 6 of the courses just the returning ones?)

Looks like maybe six clubs and eight balls; at least those are the slots that seem open.

Yep, the super backspin still works the same. As far as the courses, I'll just quote from Shihiko: "There are 12 Courses in MingolP2 and 1 Mini Game Course. If you played MingolP then you will be familiar with the old courses, but… They aren’t exactly the same as before? Pin positions have changed and also the courses are not the original courses that were in MingolP, in fact the older courses are actually using their updated models which were used in the English versions of MingolP [Everybody’s Golf and Hotshots Golf Open Tee.] so the courses are now easier to play on compared to MingolP versions. The 6 new courses added have made the game much more interesting… the design of the courses stay true to the portable series formula." Blue fire goes ten yards farther than red if you hit 100% and perfect impact, so it's a bit of a gamble vs. red fire which doesn't require perfect but which doesn't give you the bonus. I just know this from MNG5, only spent a few hours with MNGP2.

About damn time they had infrastructure. Having only Ad-Hoc on the first title was a dumbass move by them. Makes me want to rebuy a PSP as I love the HSG franchise.

Why is everyone saying "this is a good reason to upgrade to a slim"? Is there some wacky requirement I'm unaware of?

I'd also appreciate a clear answer on the blue/red/power shot crap, it's pretty confusing

Down from 16 clubs (10 with different stats and 6 were just cosmetic variations of certain clubs); balls are probably the same (there were 8 before). It looks like a ton of clubs got the chopping block. Not too happy about that but i'll need to see stats before i pass final judgement.

Only realistic upgrade i see is a possible shortening of load times with the new UMD cache and upgrade to 64 MB (and i'd be surprised if it'd be much since OT had reasonble load times already).

Most noticable possible advantage i can think of is the significant bump in battery life if you bought that new batter pack + cover combo. Think this could be fairly useful given that that they added the option of infrastructure multiplayer, so you'd potentially have your wifi in use a ton more.

Well there are cosmetic variations as well. I just have the first club, but you can switch it to a squeaky toy that is not included in one of the six blank slots, fwiw.

That's fine. I mean you don't usually use all of the 10 clubs anyway.

Beginner's, Big Air, Grass Cutter, Sand Piper, Top Spin. Beyond that I don't think it's really needed. And if gimmick clubs don't take up a slot, then it's not a big deal.

As for the loading times, the only ones it ever has are when you go to the character select screen and when you go to the first hole. Past that there are NO Loading screens.

Might not be that bad then, guess they could cut one of the extra spin or power clubs and just have one, and ditch the grass cutter club.

Yeah i know, i was just knitpicking for advantages heh :D

To be fair, I only switch off between the Beginner's club and the Big Air in the first one.

I either need better impact or better distance. I couldn't care less about the others.

I'm getting a PSP slim for this and God of War. I had a fat White PSP but sold it last Spring/Summer with the announcement of the Slim but didn't have much incentive to get a new one so this does it for me. I must've put like 30 or 40 hours into HSG:OT. Same with the others.. couldn't beat Dino Land map. Online play is gonna be awesome.

I use a pretty wide range of clubs but i never use the spin clubs, only thing i use consistantly is the big air ball. For the weak distance chars i'll use the big magnum, big air or standard for the average distance, and beginner for the long hitters. If i feel like trying to drive the green then it's Logan + the log + big air heh.

Think that's why enjoyed Open Tee so much, with the right mix of clubs and balls any char can be used for any course. You're not stuck using just last few chars you unlock for the hardest courses. Hell i shot a -12 on Dino Park long tee using Mika, man i was locked in that round.

BTW I would like to add that the MNG GPS games are teh suck. It's basically MNG1 with a bunch of real life courses spliced in. Unfortunately the courses all look identical and really lifeless/crappy. Bring on MNG2 proper!

I tried the game and I love it.

The only thing I need to know is:
How does infrastructure work? And is it confirmed that it works?

Let's say better.
I have a wifi router at home.
And my friend at his, too.

Can I finally go to the toilet, spending 1 hour playing a multiplayer online match without KAI or other stuff?

Tell me that it is so. :)

Just got this game yesterday (along with GT5P)...now I know why all y'all are recommending upgrading to the slim...loading times are pretty bad =P

I'm out of the loop... had no idea load times were improved w/ the slim. Sucks that they're bad on MNGP2. :( HSG4 gets played more than any game on my PSP (including the DJMP titles).

I really want the Slim to play on a real TV at home, though.

Worse than the first? Or just bad to you in general?

Yesterday I tried it.

Turned of, activated WIFI, configured it to see my home connection, logged in.
I went for Tournaments and found a match starting in 70 seconds.
Some people joined, 10 (but up to 16!!) and we entered all together into the lobby.
The match started....

I have no worlds to describe it.

If you played and loved the PS3 version, I can tell you that the only differences between the PS3 and PSP version are:

- in PS3 you can use fixed sentences and write using the virtual key (or the real keyboard), in PSP you can just use the fixed sentences
- in PS3 you see the other people people playing, in PSP you see the icons of the faces

All the other stuff is in this version!!
You see the balls of the other players moving in real time into the court!
No lag at all and very easy interface.

I really really love this game.
It is a dream that comes true.

GET IT NOW!

Is there anyone that could help me the 4 lines you have in the TIMER option?
I would like to find the FAST one in order not to wait too much during the tournament.
