Mirror's Edge Catalyst EA Access Trial Now Live

If anyone is playing on Xbox One, how are the graphics? The images posted earlier in this thread are compressed as hell so I won't take them at face value.

Dying Light got patched quite a lot recently (indeed like to a 1.5 iteration) with a lot of substantial improvements to performance.

Performance isn't the issue, it's the motion blur and low FoV. I went checking and many people report the same thing. Sadly, I don't think I can consider it on the Xbone.

Apparently not good :(

Well, I'm not a stickler for graphics, so I'm sure I'd be fine with how it looks on XBO. But a lot of people are disappointed. I think the textures are often muddy and the IQ is fairly poor.

For me gameplay trumps graphics every time so I don't really care. The Beta played brilliantly on PS4 and I don't really care if it performs exactly the same as that.

Damn. Perhaps there are some .ini settings that you can wangle or mods you can add to fix the FoV?

I've got a recollection they offered an option for turning motion blur off, but I could be wrong.

Would be a pity for you to miss out on Dying Light. Truly, truly great game. Like open world Ravenholm from Half-Life 2, with an amazing survival horror mechanic (nighttime) and great parkour/free-roam climbing.

Sadly, consoles don't let you edit stuff like that.

It's the only game to ever give me motion sickness. It's really something.

Reviews are coming in less than 5 hours and I'm worried. I know the game is (still) not perfect but I want to have another Mirror's Edge game. I expect critics to be really severe with it.

Hope it can match the score of the first one.

Music, no. But you really are getting more of the same here. It's just paced badly, in return for an open world. That's Catalyst in a nutshell.

Yeah, I'm not really looking for the highest numbers on reviews with this one. As long as the controls are tight and there's some really strong level design within the open world, I'll be satisfied. I'm fully expecting it to be critiqued for a weak story and the standard open world clutter. We already know it runs pretty darn well on PS4, and looks great from an art perspective. So they have to really fuck up something bad with the core gameplay to make me lose interest.

I'm expecting 6 and 7/10, mostly. Watched couple of streams yesterday and I (finally) want to play it myself, despite lackluster beta. Free roaming actually feels nice, the music helps a lot. I just don't care about the story and any of the characters, feels like suck a downgrade now that they've included it.

That really sucks pal. Wasn't sure if you were on console. They released a demo of it, so perhaps you can try the demo, but I'm not sure if the updated version is reflected on the demo.

Yeah that's why I know about it. I tried the demo around the time it came out and it was like "bruh". I'll give it another shot though. I'm almost done with Ori DE, so I will officially be out of games in my current gen back log

which includes only Alien: Isolation haha. Never going to play it until I'm an adult...

You're welcome.

There might be a yearning for Parkour in the back of your mind somewhere, try to supress that until there's a price drop or something =)

EDIT: some funnies from the trial (no spoilers)

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Cobalt Izuna/video/18202301 = I call this... Hahahahahaha

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Cobalt Izuna/video/18202312 = And I call this... the combat is severely underwhelming. This strat works on every enemy I came across in the trial.

The "Make The Enemy Phase through Shit Kick" is OP as fuck.

Pretty sure this thing is going to be a 2nd flop of the year after Homefront amongst triple A titles, everything this game has, dying light does it ten times better IMHO, no idea why have they decided to make it.

Well that's certainly an opinion lol

Nearing the end of my trial :( gunna be a long wait for... Wait, it's tomorrow, isn't it?

The recent PC update has improved performance on my machine. I was generally hitting 60FPS with some drops to 50FPS with 95%-99% GPU usage in most areas but now it's hovering around 70%. I'm guessing a day one patch on top of this could improve it even further.

Unfortunately, Amazon contacted me today and told me I'm not getting the Collector's Edition that I preordered back in February, and it could take more than 2 weeks to get more, that's if they get any, so I guess I'll be getting it digitally later today. Any cheap prices anywhere? Aside from Origin with the early access discount.

I believe this is the day one patch now. Really good improvements though, I'm very happy with the visuals/performance ratio now.

My only remaining gripe is the AA. wish they would add an option for more traditional AA that doesn't smear + ghost :/

Still really enjoying it. It's definitely made me a believer of the 'bumper jumper' control schemes that I've been avoiding for so long.

The feeling of seeing the path laid out by your Runner's Vision and thinking "No, this way is faster" because you know the city better than the game...so good.

If I start the trial and get a boxed copy on PC, will the save carry over? I'm sure it'll be an Origin code to redeem but wondering if I should start it up! So excited about this!

Just curious, have you played it?

Yeah the image quality isn't great. How did you remove the AA earlier? I think it was you that did. On Low is less smeared and blurry, even though it shows all the jaggies.

That's super promising. That's what I want out an open world like this.

No, looks too bad to me, might give it a try once some reviews are out. And please note when I said "is going to be", means it's still not. Maybe it'll stay that way.

I have to agree with you. I think this is going to be a repeat of the original. It was a very niche game back then and it still is. Now it feels more generic though, unfortunately.

details are here, on the AA section: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Mirror's_Edge_Catalyst

you can remove it completely and it becomes very crisp, but the jaggies are particularly excessive. I can't think of any other games I've seen at 1080p with no AA that looked as jaggy as this. I'm going to try and inject SMAA in ReShade when I get the opportunity and run with no in-game AA :)

I think the game looks really good on the bone.

I am sure there are frame drops and IQ issues, but the only thing that I have noticed while playing is some texture pop in.

Generally, I think it's a really pretty game. But I haven't counted ps and fps.

Yeah not great and I'm not usually very picky.

I'm nervous about the reviews because if they are meh a lot of people will pass on this and we probably won't get more, or at least for another 8 years. Plus I'm interested to see what reviewers with a full copy have to say about the length.

I couldn't play Dying Light for more than an hour before I got bored (I kept playing, though). I've played this for over 5 now, so I guess they made it for me.

Here's every review:

"The game controls like a dream and perfectly captures the exhilarating feel of the original. The story is shallow and doesn't really go anywhere, constantly introducing characters that it never fleshes out. There are too many collectibles and the music is to reigned in. But when you've got a good flow going, there's nothing like this game. 7/10"

Ditto. Aside from some texture pop-in issues here and there, it looks pretty good to me.

Does dying light have a complete focus on parkour? Wall running? Scaling tall skyscrapers?

No?

Alright then.

That's why this game is being made. I love Dying Light as much as the next person but these are 2 completely different games. Just cause they both have parkour doesn't mean they can't coexist.

I figured this game would get 65-70 on metacritic, like the Gamespot review, I had fun enough in beta for a buy. I think we’ll stuff like ‘if you enjoyed ME and don’t mind open world games then it’s recommended’.

I can see that being the general consensus.

It has some pretty bad texture pop in and the IQ isn't amazing but other than that I think it looks pretty great.

The art style really caries it anyway, even with those issues it looks really good IMO.

Regarding reviews I can't see this game doing that well, reviewers tend to focus far too heavily on story and it's going to do badly because of that.
