Mixtape Review Thread (Potential Reddit's Game of The Year)

Please guys, the gameplay has no substance, there's no meat to it. A full playthrough video dropped an hour ago on YouTube and it's ~2.5 hours long, and mostly walking and simplistic mini-games. You barely do anything. I had this on my wishlist, but skipping through the gameplay video made me realize it's all window dressing.

10/10 ~ IGN

This looks like an interactive movie-game, nothing wrong but I like to, you know, just "play" a video game not watch or hold a button. I'm sure it'll find it audience but nah, this isn't for me.

From time to time I can enjoy a good "experiential" game but seeing a review that says "Mixtape is barely a game... Its gameplay is non-existent" and then goes on to give it a 10/10 is wild.

Not super interested but for how short it is maybe I'll check it out if it's on Game Pass

I thought this would be just like a musical running simulator. Those rating seem high and make me feel like there is some weird subversive storyline.

I'm too old to make a proper judgement because I lived that time , maybe these the young people can enjoy it like me as a 90s kids loving Dazed and Confused and idealizing the past .

I liked Sayonara Wild Hearts so I may like this. The sound track is sick. If it's only 20 bucks and only 4 hours and if it's not super woke, I am still not 100% sure I won't be picking this up. I like weird games even with no gameplay but I can't take it being ultrawoke so I'm not sure if it is yet.

I bought sayonara wild hearts but couldn't get into it. may have to try it again.

You guys don't see that this game is going to be a thing at TGA and they are going to rub it in your face if they think you hate it now. If the game is not too woke best to co-opt it as well in order to not get it rubbed in our face during TGA. The game is probably good. If nothing else the soundtrack is excellent and it's short and seems to be about life and getting older.

Our moves may have already doomed us to this game getting ultra-glazed during TGA if it can be framed as anti-chud(which is the pejorative which they name everyone that isn't themselves). Sometimes it's best to also pick your enemies.

On a side note.......what if someone's fetish was that they enjoyed woke games. Not because they were woke but because they HATED woke games but liked to punish themselves with them. Let's say this person buys every woke game day 1 to satisfy his fetish.

Are you gonna make fun of that poor soul too? Don't you understand that he has needs.
Fucking who cares? Let them say whatever, it's not gonna make this game look anymore appealing.

Wat's all this then!

Is this good or getting glazed for being woke slop?

I need more intelligence. Grok, to the Batcave!

Edit: I'm probably buying this. I'm not sure it is worth not experiencing it even if it is woke. Looks like a new experience. If it's woke I'll warn others.

Dispatch my friend. A must play!
'ive been looking forward to this game since the first trailer was ever released
the trailers never gave me any implication that this was woke slop but the reviews give me pause

2 and 1/2 hours yikes
that is $5 an hour plus an additional $10 for an extra half hour
and it's getting eights nines and tens across the board what the hell

By simply admitting that the game may have some substance we can subdue a zeitgeist altering enemy without a single other comment.

AI is telling me it's a 90s coming of age story that focuses on music.

No one has came in with a description of how it is woke.

We need to judge each piece of content by itself instead of having kneejerk reactions.

Gonna try this based on the trailers alone. Looks like it was made for 80s/90s kids.

Anyone know how it runs on Switch 2? Deciding between that and PC.

There's a play though already up. There is basically no gameplay. 2 hours and 40 minutes until credits. I'm surprised they don't just option this to Netflix. Good for folks that like this type of "game" I suppose.

basically a interactive movie being reviewed like a 10/10 game.... gaming journalism keeps digging deeper everyday.

you can see how gamergate (the original idea behind it which was that journalists are compromised, not the "grrrr women" angle it eventually took), could have become a thing with how the Big sites have reviewed games this year.

like i agree the whole scale should be used and not just 7,8,9 and 10, but IGN giving all these sloppy hate scores to big games not pushing messages to give this fucking turd a 10 is quite telling.

they are going full mask off this year it seems.

It's crazy that I'm at the point where if critics like a game this much it's a red flag to me
Not crazy at all. I'd honestly advice anyone take their review scores as "bizarro world". Up is down and vice versa. Most of the time, these inflated scores are meant to "push" something in the modern "gaming journalism" landscape.

So the more gameplay systems a dev attempts to develop, the more chances of failure?

Makes sense.

Minimize the gameplay to the bare minimal product and then write a story to pander to critics is a good hustle.

Genius.

So this is like life is strange type of game right?

That one gave me pubic lices AND cringe fever for a month after just the first episode so i'm probably not their target audience :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

If only we had arcade game with 10/10 reviews, but no that's only reserved for this kind of...whatever this is.
Pac-Man
SF2 Turbo
Time Crisis 2
Soul Calibur

Arcade games usually have some type of replay-ability. This is a one and done press W for story game for $20. Completely non-appealing at every level.
I'm not defending this game specifically, I'm defending against the idea and negative opinion that games below 4 hours aren't worth it.

Equating time to value will always be seen as wrong to me.
