Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 in development, "very close to completion"

I could've sworn that is sold beneath expectations. It's a shame too, because it's one of the most underrated games this generation.
Well if it sold poorly on the WiiU then Pikmin 4 on WiiU would most likely do just as well.

Depends on how well NX does, it might actually sell decently there.

If we don't get any news about it in the next direct, it's definitely not for Wii U IMO. If it's not showed to us before the year is over, it feels like a launch game for the NX.

Even Nintendo doesn't know when their games are coming out. Talk about a dysfunctional company with poor communication. HOLY ****

And how exactly did you get that from the article? This is pretty clearly just another case of Miyamoto talking about a game before he really should be.

Nintendo is known for completing development on certain games and holding them for a much later release date. Most notably with the Zelda remasters and Tropical Freeze, Twilight Princess HD has probably been finished way before the direct announcement.

No, "we" don't know what you're talking about. Would be nice if you added a little info with your bump.

That NX release is most likely slated for 2016. Seeing as to how Pikmin is, at this point, a fairly large Nintendo franchise, I fully expect that it will be used as a launch title for NX next year, much like Pikmin (original) was a shortly-after-launch title for the GameCube.

It also doesn't make any sense for them to release another major Pikmin game on the WiiU. The console is dead. At best, it gets a launch on WiiU and improved version on NX.

Zelda delayed, no proper 3D Mario for ages, Pikmin 4 nearly here. Do this right Nintendo and the NX will have one of the best launch libraries ever (probably followed by a two year drought knowing Nintendo).

What was the last proper 3D Mario?

Except for the fact that Nintendo recently said that they will keep releasing software for the Wii U to satisfy the loyal fanbase that did buy the console.

3D World in 2013, unless you want to play dumb and not count it. It hasn't really been that long, considering gaps in previous generations. Other than Galaxy 2 they are once per platform.
Since EAD Tokyo started up they've completed their new main project about every 2 years:

2005- Jungle beat
2007- SMG
2010- Galaxy 2(they said they finished it in 2009 though)
2011- 3D Land
2013- 3D World
2014- Captain Toad (sort of, budget spin off using 3D World engine)

Nintendo has already stated that we will be seeing the next new Mario on NX. 3D Mario could work well for a 2016 NX launch if EAD Tokyo keeps releasing games at a similar pace.

I just hope they don't make it their big launch title for NX.

Pimin as a limited appeal even if it is a good strategy game.

I really hope that it's a huge departure from Pikmin 1-3. This is way too soon for another straight faced Pikmin sequel. Please be some kind of portable spinoff, or something in that spirit.

Nintendo operates in such a bizarre fashion.

Pikmin may not be the kind of game that lights the sales charts on fire, but you'd think Nintendo would do a better job hyping up something like Pikmin 4, instead of just casually mentioning it in a conversation like it was from some throwaway series like Mario Party or something.

Why'd you use Mario Party as your example when 10 almost assuredly sold more than Pikmin 3 lol.

Edit

Because while the MP series tends to sell pretty well, nobody actually expects much out of them and they're not ever really hyped to begin with.

Is it possible thisis a 3ds game?

It's probably easiest to use Pikmin 3 as a base, since that was a (pretty impressive) home console game that took a while to develop. Making a Pikmin game for 3DS would be plausible but it'd be kind of an odd time to do it since they'd be starting from scratch during what is pretty clearly a transitional period. If this is for NX then it's likely a handheld game though (in addition to the console form factor).

It's less Nintendo as a whole and more Miyamoto specifically, who has a history of leaking stuff like this (with the last Pikmin game too, to boot).

According to Miyamoto, Pikmin is better suited to staying on the home console, at least as far as Wii U vs. 3DS goes. When Nintendo tried experimenting with putting Pikmin on DS and 3DS, the play-style of the game felt too different from the desired, traditional approach the game was meant to be played when using the touchscreen. So because of that it would appear that Pikmin 4 is most likely a home console title.

Unless the NX Platform ends up having console & handheld form factors.

Wishlist for Pikmin 4: Bring back better camera controls and dual analogue controls. Coop campaign online/offline. I would love to have product placement back for items.

It will be three years since Pikmin 3 this summer and the fourth game in 15 years for the series. In no way is it too soon.

There is no way we are not getting EPD Tokyo's 3D Mario game at launch.

My son loved Pikmin 3 so we got him 1 & 2 for Xmas. It was his favorite present. He was mad about the Wii controls at first but he got used to it. Never do that shit again Nintendo.

If 4 is a launch title or close to it they've got at least one sale right here.
