Because right now more than ever, the Wii U needs another entry in a series with mediocre sales.
Never underestimate Nintendo's ability to deliver a crappy array of launch-titles.
So four months ago it was "very close to completion", but it's still not officially announced. That doesn't show a lot of confidence in it, does it? No hype generating and no marketing whatsoever. I might even speculate that it's digital-only on eShop.
Is it possible thisis a 3ds game?
Wishlist for Pikmin 3: Bring back better camera controls and dual analogue controls. Coop campaign online/offline. I would love to have product placement back for items.

Surprised to hear you say this. You don't think Retro's game, Zelda Wii U port, and 3D Mario are a solid net for the launch window?

So I'm curious. What's the evidence supporting Retro and Mario?
I can see Zelda happening, but has there been any talk at all supporting the other two?

Eshop only for a major first party title? Are you dumb?
Only explanation is that it's being made for the NX and will be shown off next year.
So if I understand correctly, the thread was bumped for no reason and now we're speculating on the game based on nothing. Is that right?
I think it will come out on both, but that means they probably won't show it until the NX reveal.Eshop only for a major first party title? Are you dumb?

The controls of New Play Control Pikmin and Pikmin 2 were absolutely perfect, making those versions the best version of the games, by extremely far. The quickness and ease they allowed were amazing, it was a true liberation compared to the original controls, and the games felt like they were designed for them.My son loved Pikmin 3 so we got him 1 & 2 for Xmas. It was his favorite present. He was mad about the Wii controls at first but he got used to it. Never do that shit again Nintendo.

A likely scenario is that it was pushed to NX, and that we'll see it when we get some proper information on the hardware.

No reason to assume this was ever intended to be for anything other than NX. Miyamoto was not talking about a platform, just that Pikmin 4 is a thing that exists.

Nintendo's idea of "very close to completion" could mean almost anything. I really doubt this game will be releasing on Wii U.

Edit: It's interesting, though, because I still think in terms of their various EAD development teams in order to guess what announcements / releases might be coming, even though I'm not even really sure what their development structure as EPD looks like.
Pretty common for a hardware launch. They're getting their games ready in time and sticking them on the shelf so they're ready to go in November.

This was admitted in most reviews. Going back is, to me, inconceivable, just like for the original Resident Evil 4.
Miyamoto said that the Pikmin movies was released on the Wii U/3DS eShops partly to make players more aware of the next game when it releases. Being on NX would make sense only if NX was intended as a direct replacement of the current systems already in 2014.
Honestly wouldn't surprise me if it is still a Wii U game and will release as one next year.
I heard DK is probably hovering around a million if digital and shipped-only sales are counted, which isn't great, but all things considered it's better than an outright bomb. Not sure on Pikmin.
No. 0% chance.
Sorry to burst your bubble but none of these things are in Pikmin 3.
If it was, why wouldn't they have shown it at E3 this year, like they did with Mario Maker in 2014?
If it is "close to completion" like Miyamoto says, they could at least have shown a trailer. That suggests to me that its NX-bound.

When did that actually happen before? Even if it happens the "there's no way" is total bs.

Anybody who thinks multiple games is finished and ready to ship for an unrevealed console is a fool. Pikmin 4 will be a Wii U game. Just bet on that.
My hunch: they haven't shown us anything about it because it's gonna be an NX launch game.
Who knows what's up with the game. It seems obvious a Pikmin 4 was being made and you should take vague statements like "close to completion" with a grain of salt.So four months ago it was "very close to completion", but it's still not officially announced. Nintendo pretty frequently shows games at E3 and releases them later that year.
But we also have ample evidence of them showing off first party games a year in advance (the aforementioned Mario Maker, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and what was supposed to be Star Fox). Those are the most recent games to come out of EAD, and something like half of their combined Wii U output, so there's a pattern there too.
I'm talking first-party EAD games here, which Pikmin obviously is, not necessarily games made elsewhere.
their moves with the wii u from 2013-2014 were done to make the platform look like it had as much support as possible. it's why xenoblade chronicles x was announced nearly three years ahead of its release in the united states too.
So Nintendo's teams have been working on... nothing? No.
I didn't say that. I just said whatever games there are for the NX are probably nowhere near done yet.
