Mobile Game of the Year 2015 - Voting

Marvel Future Fight ; Yes it's a licensed F2P game, but it's also the only game I need on my phone and has kept me hooked since the beginning. It took on a new F2P structure that is fair, and because of that I always feel like I'm earning something when I play. It's legitimately probably the best or at least most fun Marvel game on the market period right now. And yes I've played Marvel Heroes.

1. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (addicting, fun turn-based game, can't believe no one mentioned it yet)
2. Horizon Chase (fun, good-looking, great concept I'd like to see done with other retro game genres)
3. Geometry Wars 3 (good, really good graphics, but prefer it with the PS4 controller)

I just got a new iPad, but bought mostly older games
/shrug

1. Lara Croft GO: One hell of a puzzle adventure really. Everything just clicks and is really faithful to the spirit of classic TR.
2. Pacman 256: I wasn't expecting much, but this one actually turn out to be really sweet score attack game with a nice twist on the regular pac-man
3. Lara Croft: Relic Run: Through the recent mountain update sour it a bit, this game is still a enjoyable runner with neat locations to run through thus far.

1) Marvel Future fight.

That's all, it's actually #3 in my overall GOTY only behind Bloodborne & The Phantom Pain.

EDIT: Then again, I spent the entire year clearing out my backlog, so I didn't play many new releases.

1. Attack the Light ; An astonishingly fun and charming RPG. If there are any Paper Mario fans reading this, get this game.
Definitely intrigued by the comparison, and it appears to be free on iOS right now, so even though I've seen only one episode of Steven Universe, I'll check it out.

Lots of F2P and ‘passive’ (clickers/idle/auto-mode) games for me:

1. Dungeon Boss ; insane sense of constant progression, repetitive, brainless, yet entertaining
2. Raid Brigade ; same as Dungeon Boss
3. Space Miner Wars ; the F2P mechanics are shit, but the game is fun despite them
4. Max Ammo ; a lot of fun, beautiful, polished as hell, but shitty customer support and no updates leave a sour aftertaste
5. Languinis ; clever match of candy crush and Scrabble
6. Horizon Chase ; mentioned by a lot of people already, just a great little racing game
7. Land Sliders ; clever spin on sliding controls, basic yet brilliant idea
8. Blades of Brim ; for the endless runner fix
9. Hungry Shark World ; better than the original even if the controls feel somehow clunkier
10. Air Attack 2 ; gorgeous shmup, similar to Sky Force and just as delightful

Turns out I keep playing games from previous years more than games that released in 2015 :-|

2015. The year where mobile gaming went from a viable, interesting and novel alternative to nothing at all. Disappointing.

1. Downwell ; Would actually be my GotY if it weren't for Bloodborne. Downwell is a game that looks decemptively simple, but it's built around wonderful systems. It's challenging and clever and just so addictive to play.

1. Hearthstone ; A late port to mobile, but my most played mobile game of the year. There's not a lot to say about this that I haven't said in my GotY list. It's a free to play card game with decent accessibility and depth. Not a great fan of its monetisation model, or its power creep issues, but it's still a ton of fun.
2. You Must Build a Boat ; Sequel to 10000000. Pretty much the same basic game, with more dialogue and upgrades. It's a good distraction.
3. Downwell ; The game I've played the least of this list, but it's a cute spin on the endless runner genre. Controls well, and is easy to pick up and play.
4. Contradiction - Spot The Liar! ; An FMV game with fun characters and interesting enough writing. Not the most accessible game on your mobile device if you mainly play outside of your home, but if you don't mind booting it up at home, you should find a worthwhile experience from it.
5. Her Story ; Another FMV game, but not a very traditional one. You're supposed to figure out what happened from a series of cut up clips of interrogation footage. You do this by listening to keywords of the clips you have, and using those keywords to search for new clips. Sort of shares its biggest issue with Contradition.
6. Neko Atsume ; My token Tamagotchi game of the year. It's dumb, but endearing and addictive.
7. Fallout Shelter ; I'm not really comfortable adding this, since I uninstalled it after two days. I have played it though, and little else, so it's going to end up on my list by default.

And that's all. I've also dabbled a bit in Best Fiends a bit earlier in the year when my niece installed it on my phone, but that's not a 2015 game. Curious to see what titles I've missed by everyone else's lists.

1. Lara Croft Go ; Felt like classic tomb raider but in a simple form that was truly fun to play.
2. You Must Build A Boat ; the sequel to 10000000 and better in most ways.

1. Attack the Light ; Solid handheld RPG that came out early this year based on Steven Universe. A well-made licensed game that did a good job in making a relatively deep game while also pandering just enough to fans of the show. Props to the gameplay designers for making a mobile game worth replaying.
2. Lifeline ; Brilliant story-based game, using character actions and time to help tell the story of one lone survivor of a horrific space ship accident. Writing was top notch and several moments had me on the edge of my seat.

That's about it for me. Not many other mobile games that released this year have piqued my interest enough to play them for more than maybe 5-10 minutes.

1. Horizon chase - The best $1 I spent all year. A ludicrous amount of content for the price, plus it looks great and controls great.

2. Lara Croft GO - Solid, but a little on the easy side.

Yeah I guess I don't play a lot of mobile stuff any more. I didn't even like ymbab all that much

No love for Chaos Rings 3? Felt like a lost PS2 JRPG on mobile.

Wow, you're right.

I didn't pick it up until recently after being let down with the Zodiac disaster. For some reason, had thought it came out last year.

Have to tweak my Top 10!

1. One Piece treasure Cruise (just because i love One Piece)
2. Implosion
3. Sorcery 3
4. Shadowmatic
5. transistor

I heard good things about LR Go, maybe i should try it

So the time to choose my favorite games has arrived once again? Hard thing... my Top 10 is:

1. Badland 2 ; can go right AND left
2. Downwell ; fun and extremely addictive
3. Blown Away: Secret of the Wind ; clever and fresh runner mechanics
4. Hero Emblems ; most complete and deep match 3 game I ever seen
5. HoPiKo ; mobile bit sized gaming at its finest
6. Ski Safari 2 ; short bursts fun
7. Lara Croft GO ; perfect mobile adaptation of a big franchise
8. Super Happy Fun Block ; best puzzle platformer I seen on a while
9. Tetrobot & Co ; best block puzzler I ever seen
10. Altos Adventure - long bursts fun

Honorable Mentions:

1. Prune - a short but sweet trance into modern touchscreen perfection
2. Space Marshals - couldn't get into the controls
3. Land Sliders - Died in my eyes when they added Revives. Bye bye, but it was fun

1. Her Story
2. The Room 3
3. Card Crawl
4. You Must Build a Boat
5. Downwell
6. Contradiction
7. Prune

I played more, but I don't think they're necessarily worth rewarding with Game of the Year points. Also want to mention a few games I wish I got around to playing, including Galactic Keep, Subterfuge, and Ryan North's To Be or Not to Be.

1. Steven Universe: Attack the Light ; well made Paper Mario inspired RPG for SU, perhaps even better than it should have been. I'm not sure how much is here for someone who doesn't care about the show but as someone who likes it the game was real fun.

2. Lara Croft Go ; a fun puzzle game, I didn't go into the bonus content but the main game was still pretty solid. Also nice to see SE not completely ignoring the older incarnation of Lara.

3. Downwell ; addictive pick up and play done well. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but it's still not really my type of game.

4. Grand Sphere ; the best f2p game I played this year, which I realize isn't saying much but still on the whole the cool card-based battle system was good enough to carry the game to be somewhat solid.

5. Pokemon Shuffle ; a worse version of battle trozei from last year but still when you can play it's not awful.

1. Her Story
2. The Room 3
3. Card Crawl
4. You Must Build a Boat
5. Downwell
6. Contradiction
7. Prune

Hope you get around to those. They're all excellent

Played through Sorcery 1 and 2 for free via Amazon Underground, picked up Sorcery 3 right after that. I'm really impressed with how they have adapted adventure books to a much more interactive digital format. I think I like this adaptation method way more than the other Fighting Fantasy adaptations I've seen. I want Robot Commando in this format! >_<

1. Dark Echo ; sublime
2. Hero Emblems ; fuck this game and its cruel end game, but it kept me coming back.
3. Horizon Chase

My list

01 Warhammer 40k: Deathwatch
02 Chaos Rings 3
03 Galactic Keep
04 Horizon Chase
05 The Room 3
06 Final Fantasy Record Keeper
07 Gunbrick
08 Star Wars Galaxy of Heros
09 Lara Croft Go
10 Dark Echo

Thanks for the bump, didn't notice the thread before.

1. The Room Three ; The Room has a way of pulling me in and making hours pass like minutes. May be my favorite chapter to date, with good balance between expanding the scope of the series while retaining the intimacy of handcrafted, tactile puzzles to tinker with.
2. Lara Croft GO ; Confidently builds upon the already solid Hitman GO formula. Excellent visual design. I'd gladly play one of these annually.
3. Pac-Man 256 ; Hipster Whale made a cool Pac-Man endless runner thing. I ended up playing this far more than both Crossy Road and Shooty Skies.
4. Contradiction: Spot the Liar! ; Started with the mobile version but completed it on PC. Still a nice experience on an iPad and a must play for FMV adventure fans.
5. Downwell ; I also prefer the PC version here but it's still good for quick pick up and play sessions on the go.
6. Ryan North's To Be Or Not To Be ; Funny and engaging Shakespearean choose your own adventure with nice artwork and lots of endings to uncover.
7. Horizon Chase ; Just a feel good old school arcade racer.
8. You Must Build A Boat ; A little too similar to 10,000,000 to leave a strong impression, still fun while it lasted.
9. MyNBA 2K16 ; Not proud of how much time I spent making fake basketball cards play fake dice roll basketball against each other. Compulsively compelling.
10. Galactic Keep ; Punishing and obtuse but the intriguing lore kept me returning for more, getting a little further each time.

Didn't get around to trying Dark Echo or Sorcery 3 and played a few mobile ports on other platforms (Her Story, This War of Mine) that would be on the list otherwise.

F2P trash that is absolutely not getting a vote from me:
FF:RK

Sounds like someone is just salty about their rolls. Record Keeper's Meta is absolutely fantastic, once you're geared for it.

Time to throw in my votes before I forget and miss the deadline.

1. Sorcery 3 - This really sneaked up on me and I didn't play the series previously. I caught up on the first two games thanks to Amazon Underground, and bought the third one immediately. How Inkle has expanded on the original gamebooks is really impressive here, and I can confidently say after playing this for some time (and still not beating it!) that the content and interactivity in Sorcery 3 is as good if not better as any "normal" RPG out there. Even thought it still uses a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure interface, this entry has a full world map which you can freely explore, there is in-depth interactivity and consequences to actions, and the progression is impressively non-linear with lots of great writing.

2. Lara Croft Go - I loved Hitman Go, so it's no surprise that I really enjoyed this too. It wasn't until the end of the campaign and the release of the new expansion campaign that the game really hit its stride though. When the game uses all the mechanics to create actually challenging puzzles which require logical problem solving, it goes from "good" to "great" instantly. Hope they release another expansion which is even more challenging before they make Deus Ex Go!

3. Framed - The biggest problem with the game is that there isn't much content to speak of to justify the premium price they're asking. But aside from that, the production values are great, and anyone who is a fan of comic panel presentation and puzzle solving with scenarios attached. It's really fun watching the fail states too. Wish it were longer and had multiple endings though.

Bonus Mention:

Terra Battle is the best game of all time. Go play it now you shitheads! Where is my Matsuno World patch? Noooooooooooooooooooooo! GOTY 2014, 2015, and 2016. Sakaguchi da gawd.

1: Deathwatch

Thought this game was masterful, brilliant production values and the pacing and difficulty were just right. The music and graphics were lovely but the tactics and options you had were even more stunning. The last levels were from hell but I was so invested in my team at that point that I wanted to see them conclude what they began. Brilliant game and easily my iOS GOTY.

2: Football Manager Classic 2015

This is Football Manager as has been known on the PC for years but to have it on my iPad Mini able to play when I am commuting was an incredible experience. The same brilliant in depth game it has always been, it scores this far up my list because the touch screen and portability of the iPad really suits this game.

3: Galactic Keep

This came out of nowhere for me and I loved it, from the comic style graphics to the music and at times horrifying noises and writing. It is both a game and a book as it challenges you to imagine what is happening on screen. The story is intriguing and I hope they follow this up strongly.

4: Pike and Shot

I am a big fan of Slitherine games and if this had a total war style campaign mode it may have been my no 1 game. However what it does have is lots of turn based scenarios from the Early Modern period, so think English Civil War and France vs Spain for dominion of Europe. The battles themselves are brilliant with morale being the crucial factor and one turn being enough to change the whole course of a battle if your unit decides to hold ground or instead runs, masterful strategy with great A.I.

5: Transistor

From the opening the game had me hooked, while I was not always a fan of the touch controls I loved the story and it was one of the best console style experiences I have played on the iPad. It is also the most stylish game I have played with great sound effects and a confident swagger as you progress in the story.

6: Card Crawl

I was surprised this won so many GOTY competitions, I did enjoy it but thought of it more of a pick up play and put down type of game than others in this list. Having said that it is very addictive and can elict a strong sense of dread and excitement as you struggle on to reach the end only to lose and have that awful troll laugh in your face.

7: Legend of Grimrock

Another great port, a very clever game that is more interested in puzzles than combat. It is quite unforgiving and I must confess I did not finish this but I really appreciated the time I played it and would urge anyone to check it out but be prepared to be challenged both from a gameplay and puzzle level.

8: Dark Echo

Another game that in the end I did not finish but also appreciated what they were going for. I found the controls on this quite frustrating at times but being chased by unknown creatures with every movement being a potential alert to the horrors that lie ahead was a great experience.

9: Lumino City

A lovely game with superb graphics and a charming story. I did at times find some of the puzzles and controls a bit tiresome near the end but for the most part it was a short but sweet adventure that is well worth a look if you are into the genre.

1. Hearthstone (iPhone, if eligible)
2. Lara Croft GO
3. Warhammer 40K: Deathwatch
4. You Must Build a Boat
5. Transistor

1. The Room 3 ; The best adventure game ever made.
2. Lara Croft Go ; Exquisitely well designed puzzle game

In the OP what is that board game in the third picture of the first row of game?
