This has really hurt the community...it's not just about PoliGAF...NBAGAF, NYCGAF (or other cities), BlackGAF (or other races), LGBTGAF, AndroidGAF, Post your pics thread, funny pics thread, the daily threads of news on not just politics but entertainment, society, technology, etc etc, all these communities I cherished even if I didn't actively post in are gone all so...what? Discussion on GamerGate is minimized? Discussion on sexual assault or specific allegations is minimized? The policy is not even working AND its killing the community. I can't believe one of the few great places on the net is this now...

It does suck. I also miss Android, poligaf and so many others.

Based on your logic, you think that Trump's recent comments to a widow should be in the same thread as Trump's comments on NFL players.

They absolutely should not. They are different news stories.

And just so you know, mods DID lock threads that were redundant about Trump. But they also realized that many things he says and does ARE big singular stories.

I understand it's hard to look at. But that is our reality for at least another three years and you can't just pretend it's not happening.

I do not agree.
I won't elaborate too much as to follow the rules against political discussion, but I do not believe that at any point in time singular rude statements from Trump are newsworthy generally speaking. Something that could be posted in an OT dedicated to him sure, but not important enough to warrant individual threads covering a significant portion of the off-topic section. There are tiers to how important something is and how much it affects people, and I just don't think that off-topic being spammed with things Trump said in the week are notable enough to be worth covering the section. It just made GAF appear extremely politically biased and made it harder to access, view, and notice other threads. In addition, since the threads were made entirely on something that he said during the weak, there was very little that could be discussed, making the threads be full of repeated, low quality posts, thus decreasing the quality of the forum on the whole and encouraging users to not put effort into their posts.

He's the president of the United States, and the majority of users are from English speaking countries. Like it or not, most everything the US government does effects all of our lives.

The GAF rule was always new threads for new news, because it's easy for updates to get lost in 300 page OTs, and you'll have entire pages of posters replying with outdated information. The president also effects a disproportionate amount of topics; from immigration to local elections to policing to international conflict to the environment to sports to lgbt rights to women's rights to minority rights to taxes to space exploration.

It would be, frankly, asinine to attempt to discuss all of those subjects simultaneously in one thread, along with every major crises that a president must address that gets thousands of replies.

People who don't want to be in a discussion can just... ignore a thread. "Triggered to trolling" means what, you can't help but shitpost news that effects your confirmation bias?

He was admin for 11 years after the fact, a fact that most, if not all all, the moderators knew full well. I'm assuming you didn't know until recently, but that's not the case for them and a lot of users that are leaving, and they are going to run the new forum. Doesn't that strike you as a bit hypocritical?

I'm not defending Evilore, I do think he's probably an ass, but I do wonder how these people managed to be so happy here when he did all of those things years ago.

NeoGAF and its legacy are debased by the decisions being made at this very moment.

I’d be interested in the actual traffic on the OT section. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was nearly a 50/50 split.

It was actually superior to Reddit or anywhere else on the internet to discuss, well, pretty much anything.

It will be very sad if it doesn’t come back, and it basically would be admitting defeat as virtually the only large website on the internet that isn’t completely swamped with hateful toxicity. You actually do have GGers pronouncing victory over what has happened with Gaf, which is sad on many levels.

I think Evilore may be losing sight of just how impactful Neogaf was/is/could still be to millions of people in not just the gaming space.

I have been a very active user of Gaf both gaming and OT (approaching 10,000 posts despite my junior status for posting one too many anti-trump threads).

Gaf is a huge part of my life and I’d hate to see it devolve into yet another intolerant shitposting haven for hate. We have enough of that with FB, Twitter, and Reddit in our lives.

I don’t like all that has happened, especially outright calling someone mentally unstable as a defense, but I realize people make mistakes and I do think/hope the community is bigger than one person’s mistakes. I also do realize the most recent incident could very well be a fabrication against this site’s founder, but I do think calling out your accuser as mentally ill isn’t the right way to go about the situation. Hopefully EL realizes that and is able to comment on it at some point. At this point I think a mass exodus of the site is somewhat knee jerk, and I hope Gaf in general can recover.

I agree that it should return, the sooner the better, but not exactly as it was before because the politically driven topics there absolutely dominated the forum like an unstoppable cancer. It might have been a lot more manageable if all political discussion had been relegated to the PoliGaf thread, similar to how other internet forums have handled politics and religion.

Here's something for you to think about... It never seeped into Gaming, it started there. It started with Gamer Gate which (as the name may clue you in on) started from the game community.

GAF as we knew it as recently as Saturday will never recover. Too many key people have already left.

Without Off-Topic, as well as no arbitrary restriction on political or social issue discussion, nothing even resembling what GAF was will ever be possible at this URL again.

I'm sure NeoGAF will live on for some undetermined amount of time, but it's becoming increasingly clear that the community that brought and kept so many of us here is already long gone.

As a lurker who stuck mostly to Gaming side I have to say I've never found this to be the case at all. Maybe you're just more sensitive to the stuff then me but I feel most gaming topics I've read were filled mainly with insightful and intelligent/funny focused discussion once the first-post/hot-take phase ended.
