Modern Warfare 3 Versus Battlefield 3 Garbage Thread

I don't care. It's in 1942/BF2/BF3 and it adds to the game.

Here is what the lead designer at DICE said previously about prone in BC2:

"there will be no prone.. we tried it many times and decided it didn't feel right for the dynamic, destructable world we made."

Well, the world IS less destructable and dynamic this time around.

Well he was wrong, BF is better with prone

What's stupid?

You're not thinking that MW2 2 years ago getting a better score than BF3 means that IGN thinks that BF3 is worse right? because THAT would be stupid.

Different reviewers. Different times. Different standards.
It's only been a few years and in the same generation. It's not like we're comparing Goldeneye with Killzone 2.

Having MW2 better graphics score than BF3? What justification is there. You can't defend it with 'different reviewer' type shit, that's called being visually impaired. Are we to say it's okay if Uncharted 1 got a 10 in graphics and Uncharted 3 got a 9.5 it would be okay because of different times/reviewers?

I actually don't care much about this btw I don't really read reviews I like to watch all the people go ape shit over them, I'm just saying I don't know how you can possibly defend MW2 getting a 10 in graphics over some other much better looking games. Presentation is different, I think COD as an overall package does presentation really well but that's not the same as graphics alone.

You know, dude has a point about the controls in BF3. I just got the game today and was eager to try it since I've heard so much about the controls on PS3 being off. It's straight up Killzone 2 controls in this game. I have no idea what happened between the beta and retail game but something went horribly wrong.

It's really frustrating trying to aim in this game. I played about maybe 20 minutes of the campaign before I quit out of frustration with the controls. The game looks nice though.

I get enjoyment out of both the Battlefield and COD franchises. It's just that this season I was more excited for BF3. I would eventually get MW3 somewhere down the line but it may be sooner if they don't patch the controls in BF3.

Ugg. Are the controls better on 360? Or are they equally as sucky?

Say what you want about CoD. At least that game has buttery smooth controls. It's hard to play a clunky chunky controlling FPS after CoD.

Controls on 360 are butter, just like they were in the beta.

Feels and plays great.

(Coming from a guy who has thousands of hours into CoD.)

anyone plan to buy both games?
no one, everyone had to choose a side and once you buy one of the two games you are locked into your choice for all eternity
anyone that likes FPS games and isn't a fanboy will buy both

A buddy of mine just posted a ranting fb status update on why no one should buy the "broken" 360 version of Battlefield 3. I'll find some choice quotes later. Is the console version that much of a mess right now?

360 controls are fantastic in my opinion which is why that video is hilarious. He is on the 360.. 99% of the time he is far too busy bitching to notice that the reason the guys are not dying is because he is missing them with his shots.

Elpresador is a beast and entertaining as fuck, but if you do not think he exaggerating you are delusional. He does it because it gets views just like his PS3 and 360 trolling videos, I can not even count how many times he has changed his console allegience.

lol @ the elpres vid. Pronefield 3

I know exactly his frustration though. I liked BF3 but people camping is the worst fucking shit about it. And honestly it's not really the enemies I get mad at it's the stupid fucking teammates who just sit in rooms all fucking game instead of moving up and taking objectives.

The round is about to end in 30 seconds unless the objective is taken and everyone of the fucking teammates is jerking off together in some room with their cunt flashlight waiting for people instead of trying to win. That shit was all over the place in the beta with the exception of a few people that used teamwork. But so many people were laying down in the subway with their little flashlight blinding people's screens once they jump down from ledges they get shot etc. it was ridiculous.

BF3 was still fun though. If I had the money to get a new video card I'd get it over MW3 but I'd rather not play it then play it at medium. BF3 definitely seems like the type of game you want to play on at least high/1080p at 60fps at launch to have the best experience.

This also, it's a character. Part of him definitely believes what he's saying at times but you can tell when he goes over the top on purpose just to troll people. I do think he hates BF3 and campers but he yells emphatically in his commentaries just for entertainment purposes.

wtf are you talking about
He cites

-horrendous clipping
-terrible spawn points
-no kill cam
-obtuse muting options
-inability to quit between rounds without quitting the entire game
-no population stats for each game mode
-server browser instead of matchmaking
-multi map is too tiny to be useful
-"played multi for two days and couldn't find a vehicle"

I haven't played the game since the beta so I can't really judge the other stuff but this design decision was really fucking stupid. I have the same problem with Gears of War 3. You should be able to quit out when you are on the post-match statistic page.

-horrendous clipping
- sometimes in kill cam if someone is crawling around the camera will go through the floor. I haven't seen clipping problems in actual gameplay.

-terrible spawn points
- not sure what he's talking about. You can spawn into objectives, onto teammates, or onto vehicles/spawn beacons. He's probably just making dumb spawn choices and getting killed instantly. Let me know how many usable vehicles he sees in MW3.

-no kill cam
- there is a killcam - it shows you your enemy's location. It's just not CoDs 'instant replay"

-obtuse muting options
- I guess?

-inability to quit between rounds without quitting the entire game
- BC2 was the same way, it's a gimmick to keep you playing.

-no population stats for each game mode
- and that makes it broken? who cares?

-server browser instead of matchmaking
- there is matchmaking, it's called 'Quick Match'. Besides, server browsers are awesome, you'd be dumb to use matchmaking instead.

-multi map is too tiny to be useful
- uh, okay? Not true IMO, but it's opinion, not 'broken'

-"played multi for two days and couldn't find a vehicle"
- I've unlocked several tank upgrades and had some chopper/jet time. I think I've played for 4 hours last I checked.

Your friend doesn't sound like he's trying at all.

As more people learn the maps I'm hoping prone shouldn't be as much of an issue. I'm encountering it less and less in the live game then I did in the beta. I only use it sparingly. Mainly because I'm not used to it from playing a lot of Bad Company 2. I found it worthless in CoD personally so never used it other then because I felt like trying to dive.

Prone is incredibly useful in both games.

Complaining about prone camping in BF3 is getting near the bottom barrel of worthless bitching for me. The game gives you a kill cam that shows exactly where the player is and/or where they're going, scope glint, an indicator on the minimap whenever they shoot, and a 3D spotting system. If you're going to complain about the prone in BF3, complain about the clipping that essentially turns someone into half of a target, when they were already laying down to begin with. I have a feeling they're not going to "fix" this, either.

I don't know if this is supposed to make me laugh or cry.

He says that bodies clip through walls and in mid-air.

-terrible spawn points
- not sure what he's talking about. You can spawn into objectives, onto teammates, or onto vehicles/spawn beacons. He's probably just making dumb spawn choices and getting killed instantly. Let me know how many usable vehicles he sees in MW3.

His specific gripe was that it takes minutes of walking to get back into the action after getting killed due to sprawling map size.

-no kill cam
- there is a killcam - it shows you your enemy's location. It's just not CoDs 'instant replay"

He wants instant replay. He says it's meaningless to just show the killer.

-inability to quit between rounds without quitting the entire game
- BC2 was the same way, it's a gimmick to keep you playing.

But frustrating for people used to the option I'd guess.

-no population stats for each game mode
- and that makes it broken? who cares?

He'd like to know before entering a mode what people are playing so he knows the chance of finding a good match, Halo and CoD both have this.

-server browser instead of matchmaking
- there is matchmaking, it's called 'Quick Match'. Besides, server browsers are awesome, you'd be dumb to use matchmaking instead.

Does quickmatch allow you to choose game mode and player count? If so, he's probably just whining here.

-multi map is too tiny to be useful
- uh, okay? Not true IMO, but it's opinion, not 'broken'

The arrows are pretty hard to discern, almost like Crysis 1.

Your friend doesn't sound like he's trying at all.

He's been a hardcore CoD player since 3, he says he's trading in BF3 immediately. So yeah, I don't think the game is for him.

i think any real live thinking adult wouldn't play bf3 or mw3. same shit for 6 years running. id like to think a RLTA would get a better game, like any other game.

If he is a Hardcore COD player then he should not be crying about the killcam since the killcam is removed in all hardcore COD games.

His whole list can be summed up as "BF3 doesn't play like COD and I'm not good enough of a player to learn new things if they are better or not"

As I was reading through reviews of Battlefield 3 via Metacritic, I remembered a time when John Riccitiello was discussing how to "beat" Call of Duty with a "90" Metacritic game vs. their "85" (as in, make a better product).

Why the hell are these CEOs so obsessed with Metacritic? Does it really have that much bearing in the mainstream game-purchasing community?

Anyway, I'm assuming he's trying to beat CoD on the console front and I found it quite amusing that the console version of Battlefield 3 is currently sitting on an 85, which is lower than any Call of Duty game (bar World at War) released this gen as well as Bad Company 2. The Infinity Ward-developed CoDs always do exceptionally well review-wise, too (not that the current MW3 dev team is the same IW).

Upon MW3's release, if it does average 90+ and BF3 is still on 85 for console versions, I will find it unprofessionally hilarious if Kotick brings up Riccitiello's aforementioned quote.

Does anybody really care about that? I never even think about sites like that. I think most people rely on word of mouth or message boards.

Exactly. If you're into researching games online and browsing message boards and the like, you're going to draw opinions from like-minded individuals who have experienced the game from online communities.

If you're not into researching games online, you're going to rely on word of mouth and experiences from your mates.

I don't understand this company obsession with Metacritic, it's been around for years along with Gamerankings but those in the mainstream industry rarely used to bring it up :/

Well, companies usually use it so they can put a new sticker on their GOTY edition. Which is so stupid...
