Mojang got their hands on the Durango?

Minecraft 2 exclusivity would be huge. I don't know what you guys are thinking. Minecraft 2 would be the king of killer apps. The idea of minecraft only being on xbox is super unlikely. The pc will always get a version.

History has shown that console-only exclusivity works just as well as true exclusivity. At least everywhere West of Germany.

You better bet this is a controlled leak. Microsoft's cookin' up a storm.
Hopefully it's a controlled leak and it was rumored a while ago that Durango discussions would increase in frequency once GDC starts. GDC will most certainly sport the console in private meetings but I doubt they'll talk much about it officially. But hopefully there will be some leaks. The announcement of the Xbox Event ought to be quite soon anyway if the suggested April 27th date is to be believed.

Also, I think Tom is more knowledgeable when it comes to Microsoft's next generation plans than to make a tweet like this with no further context. Something's certainly brewing.

... Minecraft 2? Don't expect that to be how Minecraft goes. PC Minecraft getting to version 2.0 is as close as you're going to get to that, whereas there'll be either a compatibility update to 360 Edition to give it some Durango advantageous features or, wholly more likely, Minecraft Durango Edition that you have to buy again.

Of course they won't call it 'Minecraft 2'. If this is anything to do with Minecraft on Durango than it's more likely that it'll be a branded 'Xbox' version of Minecraft.

Mojang has partnered with Microsoft Studios. So has Tequila Works with their Durango development kit leak.

That's two leaks from MS Partners a short time after each other. If that doesn't scream "controlled leak," I don't know what does.

All that aside, I highly doubt Mojang has been working on a Minecraft successor.

Indeed, a successor makes no sense. They can keep upgrading Minecraft til the cows explode. Sure, it'll peak eventually and reach a saturation point, but there's very little they could do with a sequel that they're not already doing with their constant updating... and the constant updating it part of it's success. There's always something to talk about with the updates, always something new to learn.

For the PC version, the reality is they'll probably reach the mod API point and then grind out stability fixes thereafter, letting the community take dominion over the direction of the game. For the other versions, well... those 360 skin packs make them a tidy sum, that's for sure.

Do you think Minecraft will be on Durango?

It could. I don't think it's too hard to port over Minecraft base code to any platform really. But the game is the same regardless, it won't be any prettier, it'll just be available on that platform I imagine. Not sure about how they would approach the whole "I bought it on 360, why don't I have the Durango one too?" problem since it's a 'new' game.

MC was lighting in a bottle, just like Tetris. You guys remember Tetris 2? Eeh...

Eh, Tetris 2 was stupid, though. MC next-gen would be improved in sheer scale, similar to a PC version on a great computer, but 4J Studios would, I think, be most likely to be heading it up, not Mojang, and that allows for a lot of console-specific additions and improvements that keep the core intact while absorbing more social features and PC mod-like support.

That's the only reason I think they may include some kind of update that's either timed exclusive to Durango or completely exclusive. Maybe instead of exclusive content, just exclusive features that are tied into whatever new social features that MS is rolling out with Durango.

You are just a downer. Every thing you type is sad. I can hear the tears dropping on your keyboard.

:( -> ;___;

:) Mojang has bigger projects to work on than a Minecraft successor. Not much you can do to improve Minecraft that you can't through their regular updates, apart from graphics, but that would ruin the whole feel of the game imo.

I'd buy a durango for minecraft if it let you play on PC servers and had the GLSL shaders included

and why would mojang need a devkit anyway - wasn't the 360 version done by a different studio?

If Notch/Mojang like the platform, hopefully that means the platform is relatively more developer friendly when it comes to patching and content delivery. I hope, anyways.

It's not like Austin is right next to Durango.

I hear that there's going to be a Durango unveiling next week.

A refreshed Dodge Durango will show up at the New York auto show, Chrysler said.

His first tweet in a week and nothing else about any other places they have visited.

He knew exactly what he was doing with that tweet and how it would be interpreted.
