Monster Hunter 4G announced for 3DS, Fall 2014

Sorry, but you're 100% wrong. MH3U had more text to localize than any Ace Attorney game and is actually on par with most mid-sized JRPGs. Localizing a MH game is a monstrous undertaking. :P

Obviously you'd know better than me, but I'm still confused how that works out. I guess the sheer number of item, weapon and armor descriptions add up?

More text doesn't mean more work tbh.

It comes from NPC conversations, item/weapon/armor descriptions, quest descriptions, etc. There's also a lot of difficulty in updating the writing from the older games to match the new content.

I'm surprised Namco Bandai, I'm sorry, Bandai Namco haven't brought the God Eater franchise to 3DS. With the audience obviously having moved to the 3DS it seems like a no-brainer. Anyway, let's hope MH4G comes to the west in a timely manner.

Gods Eater and a few other hunting games are actually doing well on the Vita in Japan and that's partly due to the fact that they DON'T have to compete with a Monster Hunter on that platform.

If that is true, GE2 wouldn't even close to Bamco sales expectation, while in fact they did, almost. Those audience you mentioned should already owned a 3DS anyway.

Fuck knows when we'll actually get 4 then. Capcoms gonna seriously up the ante on the milking for this series now it enters the lean age.

Wow, was expecting this but not this early, hopefully we get this version in the West...and hopefully "soon" enough.

Shit gets real.

Wasn't expecting it so soon. Yeah, 2nd G came out one year after 2nd, but I wasn't expecting to see this again.

Well, now we know what's going to happen.

MH4G this Fall.

MH4G HD Version next year

As a launch title of 3DS successor

Expecting a western 3DS version but not so sure about the wii u. That console is in a bad spot and is it even worth Capcom making a wii u HD version?

Woah, save data carries over...that must be a first right? Unless 2nd did it with 2nd G on the PSP.

Anyways, pretty hyped and I think this will come out in the west next year.

Eh, 4 is already online-enabled, so there are less reasons for the Wii U SKU. But it's possible we'll still get the HD Version...just on the next gen handheld.

MH3U supposedly did relatively well. Also, they surely have the assets all done in high resolutions anyway.

Yup PSP games did it first. Also Diablos is soooo coming back

You could indeed transfer saves from 2nd/2ndG or Freedom 2/Freedom Unite. I have no idea if there were other games with save transfers, because that's the only time I ever did it myself.

That's combined with the psp however which you would assume had the audience anyway.

Alright, it makes sense since this is the first time since the PSP that an original and G version of the game are released on the same platform.

Kind of bummed about this

Really want localization and multiple platforms.

Cant deny the hold 3DS has on the region though. Makes perfect sense for them to keep mining this goldmine

Extra hyped for this one. Nintendo better bring it to the West, along with a HD version for Wii U. I'll get both again :P

Anyway, I really liked MH3U translation. I hope the same studio (8-4?) does the job.

I wonder what the catch is for the savegame transfer. They specifically say "ほぼ" in the announcement, which tells me some things can't or just won't be transferable.
I hope (and I think) it's nothing important of course.

I should have clarified I was referring to the MH audience, which (without a doubt) has mostly moved on to 3DS, given sales of MH4. Sorry for the confusion.

Obviously there's an audience for the game on Vita, I wasn't trying to imply there wasn't or to diminish the great sales of the Vita version. I was just wondering why they didn't try to go for the potentially much bigger market. Easier to develop for Vita? Afraid of splitting the user base? It's an honest question.

To be fair, the Vita version sold a lot better. They must have been satisfied with those sales.

Satisfied yes, but the brand hasn't really grown significantly by that move. As the biggest hunting action franchise next to MH I'm I doubt if it'll ever become a million seller.

For those that need reminding. This is why MonHun is on 3DS.

Nah, Monster Hunter 3G and Monster Hunter 4 development started on the 3DS before either the 3DS or Vita were out, so what that picture show is not the reason. The reason is that Capcom calculated/guessed that the 3DS would be a good enough platform to support big sales (and maybe made a deal with Nintendo as well, but that is just speculation). Its not because of the sales that this picture shows.

That picture also just shows much smaller games being compared to the juggernaut known as Monster Hunter. It could be an interesting picture to see how big Monster Hunter actually is in Japan, but it has basically nothing to do with the 3DS and Vita when it comes to Capcom's choice of platform.

Sorry but this is a dick move. The current version has been out for how long? If this series goes the way of COD i'm out.

Sure, if you like tired internet memes and badly worded armor skills. The Feylnes in particular were like nails across a chalk board.

I'm looking at you, Rock Steady.

Doesn't seem any worse than what they did with MH3, and I happily bought every iteration of it (MH3).

Eh? The series has done this before.

Freedom 2 = February 22, 2007
Freedom Unite = March 27, 2008

There's no difference here. It's due in fall, MH4 was out September, so it's the same pattern again....

Why is it a dick move? MHP3rd -> MH3U also was a year in between. I don't see any differences. It's a dick move for Capcom themselves, this might hurt the sales of MH4 in the meantime. Not sure why they would announce this so early in advance.

saves carry over = "Oh, I can get a head start!"

saves carry over = "Oh, I can get a head start!"

Well, if MH4 was free, sure, a lot of them would think "I can get a head start, great!".

But it costs money, so no, I doubt they will think exactly that. Who wants to pay now for a game and at the end of the year again to play a part of the content?

Capcom has done this before with RE4 GC, RE4 PS2, so this doesn't really surprise me, just a dumb move again.

The only upside to this is that the MH community is loyal to each release and don't jump ship rapidly. Heck I still see 2G/MP3rd games on adhoc party.

Very unlikely we'll see a Wii U version, now the 3DS game has native online.

Please bring it to the west! More MonHun is a GREAT thing!
