Monster Hunter: Generations announced for 3DS - Coming Summer 2016

Awwwww man I barely scratched the surface on 3U and then I got 4U and now generations is coming lol. I don't think I'll get to G rank on any of these titles :P.

I did the bare minimum needed to reach G-rank for 4U and it took me 90 hours(!) And I'm an experienced player! These games just come and take over your life man. Still, best time to play these games is at launch when the online community is new and big. Just don't burn yourself out before it releases.

Really? Doing every single low rank and high rank quest (both village and guild hall) didn't take me all that much longer than that. Did you try and craft more than two armor sets?

I was determined to try out LS with aerial, but so far have played with the Glaive using bushido... Liking that much better. Might give that hammers a whirl at some point.

Will say though that the addition of outraged monsters is cool, and I've maxed out several rare armours to level 10. Those being Flame King Rath and the new Narg.(Sonic boom)

I still can't read or speak Japanese but I never hesitate to import the MH games :)

When I learned how to use each weapon:

MH3 = Great Sword, Hammer, Bowgun
MH3U = Lance, Gunlance, Dual Sword
MH4U = Insect Glaive, Sword and Shield
MHG = Long Sword? (I like using it in arena challenges)

My main weapons throughout the series: Lance and Bowgun, poor the monsters.

I have no interest in Switch Axe, Sword Blade and Bow.

And I wish I could use Hunting Horn, it's clearly the superior version of Hammer, but it's so hard to use it correctly (hit hard to stun the monster a few times while still playing all the correct notes and songs). One day I will get there.

I suppose I may have simply had extremely poor luck with the online side of things. I may have grinded for an armour set or weapon but only once or twice.

You have no interest in the charge blade, the best weapon in the series?

It looks like the combat is a lot more agile in this entry. Does that make it much easier overall, or are there cons to the movement?

Yes, it makes combat easier than in 4 but variant monsters in X definitely make it a little more difficult than it would have been otherwise because of their movesets and overall aggressiveness.

The only problem that I've had is that late game upgraded armor mostly trivializes most end game monster's damage dealing potential.

I need to do my MH ritual and start watching through every one of Gaijin Hunter's videos to see all the styles and movesets so I can plan out my path through the weapons (and then ultimately end up right back at switch axe).

Honestly though, I have done very little research on the styles and what they change/offer. I'm really excited for the additional depth though.

Yeah I was watching one of the hype videos of someone taking on the final level variants and they were taking minimal damage.

Meanwhile a ton of monsters at the very pinnacle of 4u will basically OHKO-2HKO you with most of their attacks.

Seriously can't wait for this game. Been playing this series since mh1 on the psp. Well over a decade. However due to time constraints I didn't play the last one. Gonna have fun mastering the new weapon classes. God knows I've mastered all the older ones.

Burned out at 90 hours right before G-rank on 4U.

Loved it.

Im a long sword user. Will be picking this up day 1. Gawd I love me some Monster Hunter.

I played about 5 hours of 4U and 10 of 3U, just was starting to get into it and love it and then I got busy. I really want to jump back in, but I feel like I'd need to restart and slog through the beginning again, so maybe I'll just wait for this.

Same here. I have purposely been out of the loop. I know almost nothing about MHG and I plan to stay that way until I get my hands on the game.

I want to be surprised by all the new stuff and monster line up.

For someone new to the series, would you recommend 3U, 4U or just wait for Generations?

I feel like 4U was more fun, overall.
It depends on what you want.

4U is the more complete experience. It has an actual story, arguably much better pacing, better leaning curve, and runs much better. There was definitely much more work put into 4U than X. 4 also has G-rank, which I'd say eventually adds much more play time and challenge than X ever ends up offering.

X has the styles system and hunting arts which make for much flashier and, arguably, more enjoyable fights. The game has 1 new area and a bunch of old areas, including PSP MH areas, so the graphical disparity between older areas and newer areas is pretty jarring. The game also runs at 30FPS instead of at 60 on the N3DS and it frequently dips when when doing things. The game also doesn't seem to look as sharp either.

However, the styles add quite a lot of depth so it's easy enough to forgive its shortcomings. The game also doesn't really waste your time with a story, cutscenes, or any fluff. It's a much leaner game, though I do believe it has more quests than even MH4U.

Maybe I was a little harsh on MHX, but I still like it a lot. It just wasn't as great of an experience as 4.

3U is mostly outdated, but if you're really interested in underwater combat, try it sometime. 4U and X feel much better to play, though, which is why I recommend one of those two over 3.

Anyway, both 4U and X are good and they'll both keep you playing for a long time.

30 FPS? But... it's the same engine of MH4U :O ... Damn.

All those extra effects and whatever other additions

Who knows. 3DS sucks and they didnt so much to take advantage of N3DS either.

Also the FOV is pushed closer.... And even then its 30FPS.

Oh well thankfully this should be the last title on the system lol

Damn, didn't know about the halved framerate. That puts a damper on things, at least for me. Thanks for the heads up.
