Monster Hunter X demo impressions

I mained lance in 3U and 4U too. You have a 3-attack limit (except that the shield bash can precede it and IIRC the joust charge can follow it). The counter resets the combo, but can't be done after the 3rd attack of a combo AND it counts as the 1st attack of the new combo. So the most you can do is first poke, second poke, counter (3rd attack AND 1st attack of new combo), poke (2nd attack of the new combo), counter (3rd attack AND 1st attack of new combo), and so on.

That's how it was in 3U and 4U. It was an infinite combo, just not as good as having the option to do another poke between the counters like they let you do in Tri.

I just booted up MH4G and wow, yeah, how did I not notice that? I guess I've been used to the Tri combo and never thought of chaining before the 3rd. Interesting.

It makes sense since the Tri infinite was too good IMO. The damage output and the relative safety of the counter meant you could poke stuff for days. I miss it but whatevs.

The question is if it's worth chaining counters or just using the 3rd multi-hit attack for damage.

If it's a sheer DPS question, poke poke poke sidestep/backhop barely wins over using counters in 3U/4U. With the new 3rd stab I'd imagine getting the finisher will be more important, but who knows until we get actual numbers.

That gunlance... fuck.

So IG loses the kinsect recall option on Bushido style? I'll try it anyways when I get to play the demo tomorrow, but that doesn't sound good.
I can't wait to try aerial gunning even thought I need to practice more Bow/HBG in MH4U. At least I can beat Rajang... using G-Rank gear on a High Rank one and carting twice.

And about western release, do you think Capcom might be holding the announcement so 4U gets more holidays sales? Revealing it now could make people new to the series wait for that instead of getting the older one.

This will probably be the case. 4 got released Sept 2013 while 4G/4U got announced simultaneously for JP and US Jan 2014.

If XG/XU follows this same pattern, then I'm guessing an announcement will be made Early 2016 about it.

Yeah I still haven't tried Bushido IG. So, am i correct in my understanding that it has only 1 stamina, so you send it out, but until you do a Perfect Evade you can't recall it? Is that the story there?

Same!
Mastering each weapon class and then being able to wield the 'right' weapon against each monster (HBG for Ukanlos, DB for Tigrex, GS for Rathalos, Lance for Zinogre, etc...) is a huge part of the game for me.
MH4 would've been a lot less fun if I wasn't switching class every few fights.
After 700 hrs, mostly online, I never saw anybody else who had used every weapon :(
I prioritised DB after getting into Relics but I found that no weapon is stronger than any other once you know how to use them.
You get a cool looking guild card too!

Man... You guys make me feel a little embarrassed. I genuinely loved CB, not because I looked up the stats, but because I honestly loved it as a weapon. I played 4G exclusively with CB on the main quests because I wanted to show my love for it on the guild card. It's such a fun and satisfying weapon to use.

However, I used to do what you guys do, trying to master every weapon for each occassion. I think I'll try that again with X, as the new arts seem to open up way more possibilities.

yep, it will return to you automatically as it always does, but theres no quick way until you hit the perfect evade. With a faster bug it might be ok anyway.

Working on a Google doc documenting changes in MHX. Contribute if you are able

thanks! really helpful! lol at SnS' lost dignity :)

here' Bow:

What's new: lvl 2 charge shot after double backstep

What it loses:
Striker: ability to fire a second shot with the A button
Aerial: ability to fire a second shot with the A button
Bushido: lvl 2 charge shot after the double backstep

What it gains:
Bushido: instant lvl 2 charge after perfect evade
Aerial: haven't played enough to know, but obviously you gain the jump attack ;)

Super Arts:
アクセルレイン (Accelerating Rain?): for as long as it's active you gain infinite stamina, increased movement speed and focus (faster charge)
プレイドワイヤ- (Blade Wire): for as long as it's active you gain blade like arrows with a wider range and cut damage
絶対回避 (Perfect Evade)

for IG super arts:
エキスハンター (Katakana for 越幾斯 I guess, so Extract-Hunter?): send out an kinsect that returns with all three juices at once

Okay real talk but the Owl is the worst monster in MH history.

If I was a new player I would not buy this game based on this monster alone.

Long Sword - Bushido:

Super fun. You lose the final spirit slash attack so you can't normally level up the sword, but the bushido spirit slash is only a two-step combo and doesn't sheathe.
I like the final spirit combo slash because it gets me away from the monsters attack; don't think I'm brave enough to slash head on after the Just Evade; it's nice how little meter you need though.

Keep posting impressions guys, I can't get enough of them.

Hunting Horn got more awesome. The double-note change definitely rewards players who know the horn well and get into the thick of the fight, because if you get all double notes on the melody (by hitting the monsters), you not only gain the effect of that one, but also of the previous melody you played. The pace is faster as a result, as you don't need to pull off as many encores. The horn in the demo is a white-blue-green horn, so you get the defense/stamina/wind res/heal melodies. So, you can do self-improvement at the very beginning for movement speed, then directly go into the battle with the second melody like defense boost which also gains you the attack deflection prevention, and so on and so forth. There is also a skill you can build up to use to have all notes become double for a time, which you can use at your advantage. Just be aware that the combos are not the same for every style... Guild is same as 4, but Striker is not (gen 2?), and Aerial and Bushido are gen 3.

Very cool, I'm an HH novice (I started toying around with them in 4U) and I really like them, great to hear they're more awesome than ever.

I wish I could buy this game :( I'm not getting another 3DS though. Too bad for the region lock, they lost a sale here.

My excitement for this game has got me back full force into MH4U. It sucks that Charge Blade got nerfed, but I'll still probably stick with it. Can't wait to try out the new Gunlance though.

Ok, after some experementing I really start to like bushido with the different weapons. LS is awesome if you can hit the perfect evade constantly.

The adjustable camera speed is new, right? Or did I completely miss that in 3/4U?

That's new and very welcome! I always wanted a faster camera turning speed.

Loving all those little improvements!

Come on Capcom...

Say it ain't so!

I need some good hammer related news to cheer me back up.

I think it's not nearly that bad. The confusion status can absolutely be compensated for, on top of the fact we don't have access to most the myriad ways you can circumvent it. I think it's very owl-y and I like it cause of that.

Also aerial hammer destroys Horo.

hammer is probably one of the best weapons for bushido! If only I would not suck completely with hammer...

How do I pull of the backstep after a perfect evade with SnS bushido style? I only get the jump attack, which I'm not a big fan of.

Aerial greatsword, roll has huge distance and the length of the weapon means that any attacks done while you are in the air hit.

Bug staff is even more OP, that ball of bugs on top of the already high dps. I can see larger monsters getting hit multiple times per rotation.

Lance which was my main in 4/4G sucks now. 3rd hit of the combo is just too slow for me.

The full game cant come soon enough. Think I'm gonna go GS-guild/aerial, DB-bushido/Striker, BS-Guild.

Yeah I think so far, Aerial GS is my favourite. Double Jump Charge attacks are satisfying to pull off.

May try SnS too.

Not really a fan of aerial GS, feels way too hard to control where you land and what direction you're facing for the charge. It's a hilarious weapon+style to use, though. Aerial in general seems like the best style if you enjoy UNMITIGATED CHAOS. Can't wait to run full parties with everybody flipping around the screen

This is the first thing I'm doing with friends when the game launches. :D
