looks like the movie im working on will have some competition!

Looking forward to Monsters Inc 2, but I cant imagine what it would be about, I really love where the movie ended, my absolute fav pixar movie!

It's Pixar and it's a decade later, this isn't about cashing in. Plus, I'd be shocked if this wasn't the movie Bob Peterson is directing, so I trust them on this.

People don't know that Costanza has pretty much the worst taste in everything?
It's true.
Every time I see him express his taste it's shit.
I like that though, at least he's consistent.

I don't understand the thinking that The Incredibles begs for a sequel. Besides the tongue in cheek ending, I thought it was wrapped up extremely well for every character, and really don't imagine where you go with the series after that. There was a lot of cool stuff in the movie action-wise, but I don't think that's what attracted Brad Bird to the film, or made it so good.

Monster's Inc meanwhile, has a world that's so rich from a conceptual level, that went relatively unexplored in the first one. At the time they were still being very efficient/limited with how many sets they create, how many characters, etc, etc. While that still goes on, this would be a much bigger film, different in scope. The Incredibles and somewhat Finding Nemo, were a turning point in how developed and full their films were built.

You forgot the part where he talks shit about something he's never seen to later praise it when he finally watches it.

Put me in the "stop making sequels" group.

I'm of the same feeling. I did like Monsters Inc, but it was clear the story was effectively over. Making up new reasons not touched on in the original to revisit the characters... it's just unnecessary, and not what Pixar does best.

I love WALL-E, for example, but I wouldn't want a WALL-E 2. The story's been told. EVE and WALL-E could have adventures on the redeveloping Earth, but it would feel odd for them to be tethered to the planet the whole time when the first one traveled out into space, then resolved that and came home.

Now Up I could almost see having a sequel (he's got a renewed outlook on life,
an airship
, etc), but I think they ran through most of the appropriate "old man" jokes we'd be able to stand, so Carl would probably be stuck as generic window-dressing, just someone to dissent at what was going on.

Pixar has said time and time again they will only do sequels if they have a story good enough worth telling.

Judging from Toy Story 2 and the early screenings for Toy Story 3, I say they won't let us down.

Care to point me in the direction of those screening reports? Because I must say the TS3 trailers have me a bit worried... (I love TS1 & 2, obviously).

Let's just say, as always, the trailers for Pixar movies are nothing like the actual movie. That's what I get from the reports.

I know I will get a lot of hate, but I found both Wall E and UP boring. I hope these films are good as all the old Pixar films (Toy Story, Finding Nemo, A Bugs Life and etc).

Did Monsters Inc. really need a sequel? I'm not entirely opposed to sequels, but the way it ended ("Kitty!"), I'd pretty much call it a day there. If, like someone suggested, the sequel found itself with new protagonists, then whatever. I hope it's a good one.

I would argue that almost all of Pixar's films never really require sequels (I want my Incredibles 2!), but I'm way too hyped up about Toy Story 3 mostly for Timothy Dalton as Mr. Pricklepants.

It's too fucking kiddy. *shrug*

Just when I thought it was impossible for one person to be capable of such perpetually bad taste, you drop this all-too-familiar pearl of the immature mind, and then I understand - ahem, I should stop there.

Hey, did anyone else know that Pixar just opened up a second studio in Vancouver?

I just found this out. 0_0

According to the article, they're going to start development on a short-film in August, which should be completed 6-9 months after it's begun. This is some pretty exciting news!

Yeah besides Cars the only movie that looked open for a sequel at the end was the Incredibles. Instead we get Monsters Inc. 2. It isn't bad, it is just...Monsters Inc. ended perfectly in my book. Glad to see some original material still being generated after Newt got scrapped.

I heard an interview with Andrew Stanton where he said the Vancouver studio would be doing secondary works like short movies using Pixar characters, commercials, theme park rides, etc. He kind of made it sound like they only set it up because Pixar Original folk didn't want to do that stuff. So it's basically a studio for the grunt work (or that's the impression I got).

I'd imagine it would also be a good place to trial new talent before they're needed to replace some of the old talent who move on/retire/etc.
