Mortal Kombat 10 Gameplay E3 2014

30 vs 60fps though. Fighting games haven't been graphics showcases since the Dreamcast days.

And it runs 720p 60fps on PS3.
Sorry, but I completely disagree. Soul Calibur has blown me away with console graphics EVERY time including the Dreamcast one.

I absolutely love the designs of the new characters. I like that the improved animations and the fatalities look once again not just like "seeing what they could do" with a "fatality engine." I can't believe I'm excited for a Mortal Kombat game.

This is the game of the show so far for me, tbh. The gameplay, atmosphere etc. look absolutely wonderful and the new characters are brilliant. I'm glad this is still coming to the last gen consoles (PS3/360), because I wasn't really looking to buy a PS4 yet and none of the other games in Sony's presentation concinved me I have to (the Vita lineup looks fabulous, though. Glad I already have that). I'll wait until E3 2015 and see if then there's something for the PS4 that interests me.

I think I'll wait to buy MKX until the complete edition comes out with all the DLC characters, just like with MK9.

Huge fan of the reboot but i wasn't feeling this to be honest. Something about the graphics looked wrong, i can't put my finger on it but it just didn't look right which is a shame after how great the reboot looked.

Loved it! Not really feeling the new characters but maybe they'll grow on me as time passes. Hopefully the majority of the MK9 cast will return.

Guy with the helmet in the end looked like Hotaru

I think it's the darkness of the stages. The colour palette of MK9 was actually quite bright and soft for all the blood and guts. This looks quite a bit darker.

I'm looking forward to the story mode of this game. MK9's story mode was quite a good surprise.

I wonder...

MK9 ended with a tease for Shinnok if I recall correctly.

I wonder whether they'll pick up from MK9 or whether this game is side stepping it with the new characters and all.

I believe you're right. Shinnok/Quan Chi alliance or something like that? I think it'd be best to incorporate the new characters (probably not all) into the MKX's story line. They had it pretty well established in MK9 to just retcon it, I think.

Very disappointed in this. Looks more like MK9 Ultimate than a proper sequel. Graphics are last gen, combat system is barely different, here goes my hope for more cinematic fighter in the vein of the original MKX trailer. Will not buy.

This looks like it will be a lot of fun. I liked the new characters, especially the brute with the kid on his back.

Are they not picking where the story of MK9 left off? Doesn't seem like it (human Sub-Zero and these new guys).

Are people really comparing MKX's graphics to MK9s? I thought it looked great, definitely next (current) gen looking. The X-Rays and fatalities alone are on a whole new level when compared to MK9s, graphically speaking.

Main battle graphics are much more important than x-rays and fatalities, IMO, since you're looking at those the majority of the time.

Gameplay looked fun as hell and the fatalities looked even more brutal. Also very very pleased with the new characters, the brief glimpse of the 3rd one in the fatality montage also looked sick. I can't wait.

LOL, no offense I do not know why you expected an competitive fighter to play anything remotely close to a CGI trailer. Hell you shouldn't expect that gameplay in any fighter unless it's based around some type of really simple half turn based rock, paper, scissors system that would probably be janky as shit

They can, and probably will. They did mention different versions of all characters. Probably alternate timelines and multiverses where Subzero and others are still alive.

Fuck I cannot wait for this. Easily my game of show too. I will admit that I am not a huge fan of the new characters, however.

The bug lady looks like a rejected Star Wars character. I have no words for the Boy on the Big Dude. And the Aztec dude looks like Ogre.

I don't really know what defines a Mortal Kombat character, but this doesn't feel like it's it. But on the other hand, they're not boring shitty characters like Kira, Darius or Kobra either so I can't complain. It's funny because when they first revealed Sadira for Killer Instinct I instantly thought she'd fit right in with Mortal Kombat. Maybe it's characters that feel like a goofy and yet realistic marriage of east and west design? I don't know.

I do agree the atmosphere and the tone of the game looks to have dramatically shifted. Much much darker. Interested to see how it turns out once the roster fills out and begins to take more shape.

I'd love to see at least one more returning character this week, but I think I'm being way too optimistic.

Injustice took the MK formula and made it ten times better.

It really didn't. It just broke the game. But Ed has mentioned most of the shitty interactables are blockable and they're largely for mobility rather than attacking.

Ok so they actually added Stage interaction similar to Injustice?

If so i'm out

Yes, but like a prior poster said, Boon's confirmed you can just block the attacks, and that they're mostly used for mobility like the acrobatics characters in Injustice. I haven't seen anything picked up and thrown yet, I don't think.

Boon has already said they're going to be blockable and a large majority of them are for mobility and not for offense. I assume the ones we saw in the trailer are in the minority, then.

Injustice was it's own brand, I totally agree that it would be dumb to let it's gimmicks flow over into MK. Especially after how tightly knit the balancing fro MK9 was.

We need some of that direct-feed Blimblim goodness. I'm really not getting a good sense of how this actually looks from the blurred-to-shit YouTube stream.

Big guy picked up a corpse and chucked it at bug lady. I think as long as the interactables are functionally the same on both sides of the screen as well as blockable they're fine.

This. We need a Blimblim signal.

The more I watch the gameplay the more cool stuff I see.

This might be my most wanted game now, nostalgia adds a lot though. ;)

So since I am intrigued to see if Boon is telling the truth I went through this video.

First of all I don't know if you guys noiced this but at 0:35 if you play it back slowly you can see an item actually highlights in the background behind Scorpion. I also noticed branches randomly start emanating cold air / frost too. Not sure if this is part of the stage or a way to say Sub Zero can use the stage.

0:34 - Scorpion jumps on a branch and swing kicks Sub Zero.
0:52 - Bug Lady uses the wall to jump over to other side of the arena. Uses Pot as projectile.
1:05 - Scorpion presumably uses a tree stump to jump to branch of tree and move to other side of screen
1:09 - Scorpion grabs tree and uses it to launch X-Ray attack against Sub Zero
1:17 - Bug Lady swing kicks Big Dude
1:20 - Big Dude grabs body from sea and throws it at Bug Lady

So there's a mix, but I am a bit worried now. I mean yeah the offensive interactables are easily blocked but it still seems a bit unbalanced.

I've included some shitty captures to show what I mean.

In the images above you can see something (?), a pot and a tree stump all highlighted.

Although I have played Mortal Kombat from the first one in the arcades, and I know about there history with a block button, I don't see this addition as good news. It kind of helped the flow of the matches that they had switched to holding back to block, but I guess we have to see how it shakes out.

I kinda liked Bug Lady , one thing that I appreciate about MK is that they intentionally create non attractive female characters.Although I'm waiting for them to fix the design of the ladies that are supposed to be attractive.

MK9 revised everything up to MK3's storyline, So MKX will probably continue on with MK4, which was Shinnok's story. If they decide to go on, they'll probably bring back Onaga, but I don't think that the Deadly Alliance will happen since
there's no Shang Tsung storywise
. The new characters are there likely to fill out the roster because half of the roster in MK9
was murdered by Sindel
, so until they can come back, they'll need more people.

Yep, missed a couple on my first views but i was rolling my eyes as soon as i saw the pot getting highlighted

I really donnow how i feel about this, let's hope for the best :/
